No NASCAR this past weekend. Easter break (by the way, Happy Easter [Monday] to my Canadian friends!). There was no NASCAR unless you pretended a certain race went on. Like maybe you pretended NASCAR raced the full course of Circuit of the Americas with a very narrow finish kind of like Corvette Racing at this year's Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. Or maybe you pretended NASCAR raced the Nürburgring Nordschleife and everything had to come down to a green-white-checker finish on that 12+ mile course. Maybe you imagined NASCAR raced at Bathurst, or NASCAR racing at a vastly renovated and revived North Wilkesboro, or something like that. Either way, NASCAR will return to action this weekend.
With the concern of concussions in today's sports landscape, it was pretty huge for Dale Earnhardt Jr. to donate his brain for CTE research.
Pretty soon, the calendar will turn to April. And when April arrives, these races in NASCAR's top three Touring Series will occur. Here's the schedule for April in case you want to go to these races or follow them intently:
--- April 2016: NASCAR Trucks ---
* Apr 2: Martinsville
--- April 2016: NASCAR XFINITY ---
* Apr. 8: Texas
* Apr. 16: Bristol (three races; two heats, one main)
* Apr. 23: Richmond (three races; two heats, one main)
* Apr. 30: Talladega
--- April 2016: NASCAR Cup ---
* Apr. 3: Martinsville
* Apr. 9: Texas
* Apr. 17: Bristol
* Apr. 24: Richmond
So for April, NASCAR returns to the good old South. And for all of my Texans- both native (like myself) and non-native, NASCAR decides to grace the Lone Star State yet again with some good old stock car racing. There is also a good bit of diversity with short tracks along with an intermediate and the all-bets-are-off speed playground known as Talladega. Baseball season may start up in April, but there's going to be plenty of slug fests this month in NASCAR. By the way, I learned today of this new format for these heat races in some XFINITY Series races. I sometimes feel like maybe NASCAR should do like the Australian V8 Supercars and maybe have some segmented races. You know, maybe two or three (maybe four) races at certain tracks and maybe not run certain courses twice a year. What do you think about these heat races?
And of course, good luck to all drivers and teams across all levels of NASCAR racing.
