Mark February 4, 2018 on your calendars. Why? That will be the date of when Minneapolis will host Super Bowl LII at the new U.S. Bank Stadium. Hopefully that game would be the Houston Texans vs. (whomever is NFC champs), but that's my inner "fanboy" speaking.

I'm not going to even say Detroit Lions vs AFC winner because the Lions going to the super bowl (especially winning one) while the Ford family owns them is something that will probably never happen. While Martha seems to actually give a damn about the team, we're still talking about the Lions here- one of the most inept franchises in the NFL. Though to be fair, at least the Lions are not the Browns........ Sure, I'd like to be proven wrong and certainly would cheer them on if they go, but at the end of the day, we're still talking about the Lions.

I read that Jarryd Hayne retired from the San Francisco 49ers to return to rugby. He'll still be a footballer, just a different kind of football. I personally love rugby whether it's regular rugby or rugby sevens.

Anyhow, all the best to Hayne.

[UPDATE] Jarryd, not Jerryd.

THIS JUST IN...

According to ESPN's Bottom Line that I read, Super Bowls for 2019, 2020, and 2021 have been rewarded (respectively) to Atlanta, South Florida, and Los Angeles. The 2017 Super Bowl will be here in Houston, and the 2018 Super Bowl will be in Minneapolis. "South Florida" can mean either Miami or Tampa Bay. Not sure what that's about. But yeah- Super Bowl sites for the next few years were just announced.

I think I read it was Miami, but I'm not sure if that's true or where I even saw it.

Today is apparently the golden (50th) anniversary of the AFL and NFL merging. This was what I read from ESPN's Bottom Line earlier today. I think around the time of this merger, there were 24 teams. So many more star players and teams emerged over time.

Fletcher Cox just got a 6 year, $103 million dollar extension with the Eagles. $63 million guaranteed.

I read the Detroit Lions signed WR Andre Roberts. Maybe he'll provide that lift at the WR spot for the Lions. I also read (on Twitter) the Detroit Lions will have themselves some cheerleaders. Only news that will matter in the end is the Lions trying to prove being one of the better teams in the NFL, let alone in the NFC North.

Blitz24 started this thread, so to keep the discussion busy here, I figured I'd talk about his J! E! T! S! Jets Jets Jets! Here is the 2016 schedule for the Jets:

! = divisional game

--- 2016 New York Jets Preseason ---
* Aug. 11 - Jacksonville
* Aug. 19 - at Washington
* Aug. 27 - New York Giants
* Sep. 1 - Philadelphia

--- 2016 New York Jets Regular Season ---
* Sep. 11 - Cincinnati
* Sep. 15 - at Buffalo!
* Sep. 25 - at Kansas City
* Oct. 2 - Seattle
* Oct. 9 - at Pittsburgh
* Oct. 17 - at Arizona
* Oct. 23 - Baltimore
* Oct. 30 - at Cleveland
* Nov. 6 - at Miami!
* Nov. 13 - Los Angeles
* Nov. 27 - New England!
* Dec. 5 - Indianapolis
* Dec. 11 - at San Francisco
* Dec. 17 - Miami!
* Dec. 24 - at New England!
* Jan. 1, 2017 - Buffalo!

So there's the 2016 schedule for the New York Jets. Wonder what kind of damage they can do this season.

Ton 'o suspensions. Here's a little list:

* Johnny Manziel - violating substance abuse, 4 games.
* Rolando McClain, DAL - violating substance abuse, 10 games.
* DeMarcus Lawrence, DAL - 4 games.
* Randy Gregory, DAL - 4 games.
* Sheldon Richardson, NYJ - violating conduct policy, 1 game.

Damn... stay classy, NFL.

On a much different note, how about Andrew Luck? He is so paid. Making 'dat paper. How much? Try $87M USD guaranteed and about a $140M USD extension through about 2021. Again- PAID.

I'm surprised Luck didn't ask them to spend half of that on an offensive line to protect his ruptured spleen or kidney or whatever it was that made him miss half of last year.

The Manziel suspension is meaningless. He won't be playing in 2016 (if ever again) and as of right now it only applies to the 2016 season.

Brady Quinn's "Deflategate" appeal was denied. So he could take his business to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Other than that, can you believe we are less than a month away from the NFL Preseason games? It will be time to start tackling dudes again and catching passes.

Unfortunately, Brady will appeal to the Supreme Court to get a hold on the suspension. He'll play this whole season like last year and delay his punishment again.

Tom Brady reportedly dropped his appeal of Deflategate. So he'll serve his four-game suspension. I read this on ESPN's Bottom Line and according to Tom Brady's Facebook fan page. Tom Brady will sit in timeout, just like most bad kids or good kids that do bad.

Wilkerson got an extension from the Jets shockingly. They are usually much more cheap than that unless your name ends in (R)evis.

It's official- former Houston Texan Arian Foster is now a Miami Dolphin. He signed a one-year deal to play with Omnis' Miami Dolphins. I just wonder how much he has left. He's a solid player, no doubt. I don't even need to tell you that considering his service to the Texans. But I do want to see how effective he can be with the Dolphins and what kind of offensive spark he can bring to Miami.

Miami Dolphins... get to know and enjoy Arian Foster.

According to ESPN, J.J. Watt has undergone back surgery and will be on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list for the start of Training Camp, but should be ready to go for at least the preseason. The funniest news about this is that ESPN (I'm assuming) initially reported this as a "NASCAR Alert" rather than an "NFL Alert," which ESPN's Bottom Line eventually changed up. Ah, ESPN... sometimes can become "The Worldwide Leader of Fail."

My thoughts and prayers go out in loving memory of Dennis Green. He was one of the most winning Black American coaches in the NFL. Some even remember him for his quote of, "they are who we thought they were!" in a rant at a press conference. Sad to learn of his passing. Dennis Green was 67 years old.

How will YOU remember Dennis Green?

[UPDATE] I learned Dennis Green died of cardiac arrest. Still sad to lose him.

That's awful. So terrible to die young from a heart attack like that.

Peyton Manning vindicated- it was determined he did NOT use performance-enhancing drugs. This is what I at least read on ESPN's Bottom Line earlier today. Peyton Manning is still one of the most solid quarterbacks ever.

Was there every any doubt the league would be quick to sweep this matter under the rug. I'm sure those documents that P.M. turned over that did not incriminate him will go on the shelf right next to the Pats tapes of defensive calls.

WR Anquan Boldin is officially a Detroit Lion. Ian Rapoport on Twitter mentioned this is a 1-year, $2.75M USD deal along with a $750K signing bonus. That should help out the Lions some.

Word has it that DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans is holding out of training camp to negotiate a new contract. I'd hate to see him lose playing time considering "Nuk" becoming a rising star in the NFL.

Won't watch another NFL down again as long as Roger Goodell is commissioner, but this was funny. At the Kansas City Chief's Training camp presser today, a fake Andy Reid stood in for the real Andy Reid at the start of the press conference. The "playbook" that he was holding was actually a bar menu.

At least the real Andy Reid was a good sport about it.

With the Preseason games set to start, now is time to get excited and get involved with the upcoming 2016 NFL season. I certainly will try to get some engagement going. I already took sort of a look at my Texans and at the Jets. Maybe I'll spare thoughts on some of the other teams.
