Oh, yes, the, what? 15 MPH Speed Reduction? Because that is going to stop them from flipping over.
 
I agree, but no one deserves to be subject to injury or dare I say it loss of life due to poor decisions, I've not seen the rule changes yet, surprised no one has posted a link to be honest,
 
That is the sport. All four collision incidents had a reason. Mann overcorrected out of T4, and all the safety procedures did their part. Newgarden blew a tire and Helio went out of the groove. The only crash we don't know of yet is Carpenter. And these cars are flipping over because they go rear first. So none of these changes would theoretically work. And neither would changing the aero kits. And it was all Chevrolet.

The rear of the cars were what lifted. The crashes themselves were typical.
 
Obviously the focus has been on the Chevy, hopefully the Honda aero pack hasn't been over looked throughout the discussions,

No, but at the same time, the only solution that appears to be logical is to either remove the rear bumper or make the cars heavier, both of which would kill the car.

I don't have the Answer on how to fix this that would be reasonable given the time frame, given the changes they have made though I still feel like they are rolling the dice here, given not all the flips where in Qual spec.

Major changes to the high speed oval specs should be introduced straight after the race or before the next High Speed Oval with or without more incidents in the Indy 500 though and it would be incredibly irresponsible by Indycar if they don't do something.
 
Stick them in a rolling road wind tunnel backwards, though I doubt there is any wind tunnel capable of generating enough speed,

What would you rather have? Slow cars but great racing, or 230mph and only about 4 cars crossing the line?

If a couple more fly backwards today or on "carb" day, particularly if they're over the wall and hitting the fence, they could order the teams to panel over the floor venturis, in effect making a flat bottom with no wing profile, and that should kill most of the backwards lift.
 
If that does happen Indycar would be in such a difficult decision on what to make, I can't see them cancelling the race on safety concerns as it's the biggest race of the season that is watched more then the rest of the Indycar season combined and probably twice over on top, not to mention they can't possibly damage the series only hope of ever improving, it could potentially end the series given the commitments attached to it..

Making such fundamental changes to a car this late is going to be a very difficult task, because not only are you trying to experiment to stop the lift but you are also involved in a race.

The Signs are all there and we can see it, but even with hindsight it may be unavoidable given Indycars position, I don't think the chevy's aerokit is at we must cancel the race for the sake of lives just yet and that is basically the only thing that would be safe as an outcome.

This is a serious safety dilema though as it's a potential disaster from what will envitably happen in the 500(a car crashing into the wall), this is not a perfect storm sceniaro.

They qualified in their race trim. That was the one of the rule changes. None of the flips happened in qualifying. They were all in practice.

Those cars were all running the Chevy low drag aero kit designed for qualifying.

Hinch was just in a huge crash entering turn 3.The onboard shows the RF suspension failed and he went straight.He is awake and alert and being transported to the hospital.

That crash showed that the Honda kits don't lift, and that hit was hard.

At no point did the car go completely backwards at a considerable rate, as per the other crashes. All the initial force was frontal. Considering those things, the fact that it still almost blew over completely at a deadened speed completely disproves your statement.

Not entirely. Carpenter's crash also started with side lift.

Dude the entire right side of the car was gone, of course it blew over.

Hope Hinch is alright, that was a massive hit.
 
Show me a car that would not blew over after this accident. The question here must be: Why did he drive in straight line into the wall in the middle of the corner? That's what I'm worried about.

Edit: Or better: How is it possible that the suspension broke and could it happen again?
 
Marshal Pruett from Racer.com has been tweeting that all track activities have been put on "Indefinite Hold" today following James Hinchliffe's accident... I can confidently say that Indycar are up a creek without a paddle right now.

Someone is going to be killed if the don't significantly slow these cars down. That impact was awful and ANOTHER blowover
 
I think it lifting up was more from the fact that half the car was gone than the aero kit. Still worrying though.
 
Tbh that hit suggested nothing more then what it would of done last year, it may or may not of flipped if going backwards though which is the real concern.

Also the crash was due to a Right Front Suspension failure and the car couldn't turn.
