via Marshall Pruett:

11:28 ET: A second team owners/team managers meeting was just called by INDYCAR.

11:29 ET: In light of the dramas this week, some teams are saying it's possible the series will allow all cars--including a 34th entry--to start the race. It is unsubstantiated at the moment, but we are looking into it.

EDIT:

Practice is now set for 1-1:30 for Group 1, Group 2 1:30-2. First qual attempt is at 3:15. 1 shot each.

No "Fast 9" shootout.

Why are they slowing the cars down with HP reduction? It's the wings that are causing the problem... a 10 mph speed reduction will not make any difference in preventing the cars from getting airborne, F1 cars have gotten air at less than 200mph.

As Marshall Pruett said, the stewards are reeling in panic. One of the stewards is a lawyer, and will want the Speedway, teams and his administration to be seen in retrospect to have done everything possible to have prevented death and injury, should the worst occur.

More aero to be added to cars.

So much for your "aero war" ehhh guys?

Honda may be pissed now but I think they would have been lucky to start higher than row 3. Now I think either Rahal or Munoz have a shot at at least row 2.

Gotta love the mouse network, they could care less about Indycar until there is a problem and then every interview is designed to bait somebody into saying something negative about the series.

Just in case anyone missed it, Carpenter's car went over the wall and clipped the debris fence. Not Good.

Tempers are cooling and practice will recommence in a few minutes, with everyone at the Speedway hopefully a bit safer.

Apart from the fact nothing has changed. They're at same boost levels that led to Castroneves crash earlier this week.

So you're saying that it should be an "everything is good and perfect" coverage of the sport? That's what NASCAR on FOX is (and Indycar on NBCSN), no matter how rediculous the decesions are over there, they defend it and embrace it with no criticism whatsoever.

That's not what he is saying. He is saying the ONLY thing that is ever said about Indycar IS bad things, not even close to what you are alluding to.

They will qualify at race boost and race aero-settings - no trimming out. That is sane for the moment. With more data, more adjustments will likely be made prior to the race next weekend.

No they should be honest and not run to AJ and try to get the "gotcha" sound bite like the bush league network they are.

Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy were very critical of Indycar's punishment of Bourdais during qualifying at NOLA.

You are correct about NASCAR coverage on Fox though.

Qualifying on ESPNEWS.
Only 221 out of turn 4 and 226 average :(

From the first practice group Power ran fastest at 227. When asked about his handling, he had a one word answer: "Stuck". He implied everyone's flat footing, and the guy who gets a lucky gust of wind might get pole!

Edit: Maybe the only way to gain speed is a super-loose setup! Who will have the nads?

Can we just go back to the spec kit already? Faster cars lead to bigger wrecks and a smaller margin of error. One kit is going to be far superior by the time it's all said and done with all the crashes and adjustments to each aero package and screw up the race. Also, why the hell wasn't there more testing done on the oval kits before?

Gutted for Ed, glad he's okay.

Chevy really have fluffed up this aero kit, thought it looked all sorts of wrong from the start.

Simona had an interesting run. Faster 4th lap, which is a bit of promise.

Someones going to die. 3 flips and a huge slam into a pit wall. All Single car crashes. And Indy thinks they can put 30 some cars in a huge pack for 200 laps?? This is getting silly.

Did you not see the reductions they made? It's not a sport for pansies.
