I'll refrain from commenting about Michael himself on that one, as it's hard for me to keep personal bias out of issues (reading the comments on the article is funny though) but I'd like to see other people saying the same things the Andrettis are being quoted and interviewed on. Right now, it seems like it's just them saying this stuff. That article does mention that other Honda teams are angry/upset about the dome skids, but doesn't quote any other teams or sources. If they are upset, then why aren't any of them being quoted on it?

EDIT: I'm glad I noticed the 'more messages have been posted' popup, as what Schmidt is saying is far more interesting, aside from coming off as not whiny. I'm still a bid iffy as to whether Chevy was sandbagging or not, but hearing from another source saying the same thing as the first is more convincing than if it was just one source.

I don't agree with his comment on this, though;
Sam Schmidt said...
“It’s a joke; there’s clearly no safety issue that requires a domed skid...”

The whole reason they brought the skid back was because of what happened with the Chevys at Indy last year; the fact is that there IS a safety issue, and whether Chevrolet changing the aero kit afterwards would have solved it, hypothetically speaking, is moot - safety should be a paramount focus in as dangerous of a sport as Indycar is. Funnily enough, Schmidt does say something interesting in the next paragraph of that same article;

Schmidt said...
“And by the way, let me stress here that I have complete and utter respect for the preparation, the advanced planning and the strategizing it took for them to pull it off! And there’s dissatisfaction with Honda because they didn’t see it coming.”

He's admitting in the same breath that Chevy is prepared and has the better car, and that Honda isn't prepared. I can't quite say what this means in terms of what will happen in the future, as I feel I'm not qualified to speculate on levels of preparedness, but I can say that the next month and a half will be interesting in terms of what goes on for both manufacturers and all of the teams, and Indycar itself.

You know HPD, maybe you should spend more of that money on catching the hell up rather then paying the Andrettis and whoever else to stir 🤬 up.

Call me crazy, but when I see Scott Dixon's red Target car with the yellow accents, I almost think Juan Pablo Montoya is still with Chip Ganassi Racing- like in 1999 (when he won at Long Beach en route to the CART championship that season)! Only JPM is now with a different team in a different car and not in a Honda. Shoot, I almost want to imagine it's the tandem of Juan Pablo Montoya and Jimmy Vasser with that semi-throwback Target livery. Or maybe even Jimmy Vasser and Alessandro Zanardi. Nostalgia...

Came into the living room and the qualifying was on. It kind'a bugged me how the red flag came out, but the 2 minutes on clock was still allowed to run down. Then they decided to let everyone do a last timed lap anyway.

The streets of Long Beach, California, USA has seen lots of high-level racing for many years. Today starts another year of the Long Beach Grand Prix. Good luck to all drivers and teams competing today.

What a busy day! F1 during the sleeping hours, WEC throughout the morning, NASCAR in the afternoon, and ending with INDYCAR in the late afternoon/early evening! This should be a great race!:D

I agree with the warning and there was minimal advantage gained and was not a safety issue. A drive through would be about 20 seconds lost for 1 tenth gained which is far too harsh.

In only two of his first non-Nascar races, Rick Allen has managed to get more names right then any of ESPN's commentators (Sans Bestwick) in their 9 year coverage of NASCAR.

He actually doesn't suck that bad as an announcer apparently lol. :lol: WHAT IS THIS VOODOO?! :scared:

Don't sleep on my boy Rick, after watching all of last season of NASCAR on NBC, I've come to the conclusion that he's underrated

I just watched the race replay stream on NBCSN.com and exiting the 2nd pit stop Kanaan and Sato also crossed the blend line early and Sato was just able to sneak in front of Power because of that cut. The only difference between that and what Simon did when is Townsend and PT didnt catch it on the TV broadcast and make it the story of the race. There was also a very close to the line by Dixon on the 1st stop which would have required the system they use in tennis to tell if he cut the line or not.

Regardless of who did what the fact that race control either had the option by rule of giving him a warning or the nuclear option stop-and-go drive thru penalty left them with little options. The simple and most logical solution would be to require those drivers who gained time would be for them to give the position back or to serve a 5 sec time penalty if the offense occurs before the last pit stop but that will require that they make a change to the rules. The other problem I saw was unless race control had access to a fixed camera that was focused on the blend line the enforcement of the rule is entirely dependent on the NBCSN camera who is trying to shoot the long field shot into turn 1. If it is a rule then they need to enforce it as one instead of what they have now which is nothing more than a suggestion.

Also if every single driver says post race the racing suffered because of the aero kits and the way they create downforce it might be time to dust off the old DW12 parts and turn up the boost because what we have now is F1 bad w/o flippy flaps and 17 tire compounds to create the illusion the racing is good.

Just caught up on the race. Rather average, I must say. Seemed a bit like an F1 race with cars stuck in procession.

Interesting calls from race control, to say the least. I was laughing so hard at Chilton's line through T5. Can't believe there wasn't already a rule about that, and can't believe he just got a warning. That was some Playstation stuff. The whole thing with the pit exit was a bit weird too. I agree though, that if race control doesn't have a fixed camera or sensor at that spot, relying on the TV coverage is lame. If the rules say a warning can be applied for that breech, then that's the way it is I guess.

Guys, I would like to say that I am officially a fan of Indy Car now. The Grand Prix at Long Beach was a fun race to watch and I will be watching the rest of the season due to this race. Looking forward to the rest of the season.:cheers::cheers::cheers:
