Next Sunday is the Indianapolis 500. I still can't believe this will be the 100th running of the Indy 500. The race is still going to be exceptional even no matter how ABC will try their best to butcher or dilute the TV coverage.
One of the latest editions of Automobile Magazine has about 100 or so facts on the Indy 500, such as the fact no driver has won the Indy 500 from flag-to-flag. I recommend you check out that article if you get a chance.
As for the Indy 500 itself, I often call Indy as "the world's fastest road course." Indianapolis Motor Speedway is no cookie-cutter oval. It almost feels like a road course despite the fact the speeds run at Indy are so high. It was probably 2000 that was the first Indy 500 I followed. Every year since, I have followed Indy in some capacity. That even included the year a young lady named Danica Sue Patrick was making plenty of noise and was getting some mad hype. It was certainly a cool story for Juan Pablo Montoya to have a great come-from-behind performance to win last year's Indy 500. Don't count this guy out to win the 2016 Indy 500 as the defending race winner. If this will be your first Indy 500, soak it all in. For real. This is more than a race- the history, the prestige, the challenge, the drama... the Indianapolis 500 is a real bucket list item for any motorsports fan and surely one for a motorsports enthusiast.
Having said all of this, good luck to all drivers and teams for when the 2016 Indy 500 finally happens. At about 4:00 PM EDT, Sunday qualifying will take place.
