To continue on what I had posted in the 500 thread in regards to the ratings of the race yesterday.

The trend of ABC's ratings going down is continuing, while NBCSN is either retaining the same level or increasing over each year.

They really need to consider putting all the races on NBC(SN) and dropping ABC entirely.

It really is a double edged sword with the mouse network because if they are not broadcasting it they have a tendency to ignore it completely. They did have a live Sportscenter from the speedway to hype the event but when it comes time to start the race broadcast the whole show falls apart. The TV director has no idea what to follow when or why and the talking heads are either lost or rambling. If hardcore race fans like us have to have 5 tabs open to try and keep with what is going on in the race imagine what Joe 6-pack is doing after the 8th commercial break in the 1st hr.

All that being said it is up to IMS to change the deal and for now they seem happy with it. Of course they are all at the track the day of the race and dont have to watch ABC but whatever.

I find the ratings astonishing - or have I misunderstood? Fewer than 5 million people watched the race live in a country of 300 million? If I've got that right then it's amazing.

Id like to say that's impressive, but its kinda lack lustre results considering the population is 300 million, sad to say but its kinda pathetic considering the numbers,

What was impressive was 350k in the stands,

Closer to 6.3 million based on last years totals. Keep in mind that at the same time there 4 ESPN channels airing college softball,baseball,and lacrosse + PGA golf on the Golf channel, French Open on NBC, MLB network had a regional game on, and various other regional sports networks were showing their local MLB game. All of that is just in the 12pm-2pm ET time Sunday. At the end of the race when the rating went up is was in direct competition on the "big" networks with the PGA on CBS and the Senior PGA Championship on NBC.

That was a great season! See you in 2017! Oh, wait... the Indy 500 is NOT the end of the season? We still have a lot of season left. Allow me to share the upcoming schedule. So if you plan on going to any races or follow certain races in some capacity, here's the June 2016 schedule:

--- June 2016 IndyCar Series Schedule ---
* June 4: Detroit
* June 5: Detroit
* June 11: Texas Motor Speeedway
* June 26: Road America

So get ready for some more Midwestern loving as well as little trip down south to my native state of Texas but up in RACECAR country. Good news is... if you loathe ESPN/ABC coverage, the Dual in Detroit this weekend is the ESPN/ABC finale of TV coverage this year. Every race after Detroit will be on the NBC networks.

Now for some lighthearted musings to close out this post.

* The first race at Belle Isle I've seen on TV was in 1999. Then, it was (then) CART that raced this course. The Belle Isle course is tough. Let's just hope this year's action doesn't become a rainy mess like last year or so.

* Texas Motor Speedway is surely one of my favorite ovals. You can get up to speed quite well, and the track provides great action. Some people even call Texas Motor Speedway as the spiritual home of the IndyCar Series. The toughest thing about the course is how narrow it is. So it can be a bit tough to find speed and maintain it around the course.

* I still think Road America is a Formula 1-style, Grand Prix style racing course. Throw a good amount of money at Road America to upgrade facilities or whatever, and this track could easily host any of the World Championship style racing series. I still find Road America to be a great challenge no matter what series race there. IndyCar will surely put on a great show there.

* One last musing... from the ESPN/ABC coverage, those IndyCar guys are sharp dressers! Some of the different guys' portraits during little segments on ESPN/ABC shown these guys looking dapper in their suits. Max Chilton's a pretty handsome bloke. Juan Pablo Montoya was pretty sharply dressed also.

Get ready for IndyCar in June!

I do love blue and gold as a color combination. So I will surely agree on the notion of those being lovely colors. The blue and gold pop out nicely like the old NFL's St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams uniforms or the NHL's St. Louis Blues uniforms. Let's see if Alexander Rossi can further assert himself.

The Dual in Detroit should be a good one, as usual.

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. I've been away for the past 5 months training to become a solider. But now I'm back and ready for the rest of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series! I've updated the schedule and pictures on the first post.

Welcome back, and welcome to one of the greatest seasons in a while! :D

Did this idiot (Scott ****year) just call the WSCC sportscars "sedans"?! :banghead: :banghead: Look at the Ligier or Viper and say that again you ****! :mad:

He seems to downplay any series that isn't Indycar. I recall in the 2013 2nd Detroit race just after a wreck occurred, he made a derisive remark about the wreck calling it "Nascar style".
