The problem isn't ovals in general, it's ovals that are designed for stock cars which are slower.
Really is bad taste for ABC to keep showing the replay.![]()
I am having a very hard time holding back my tears right now. I just can't believe it. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch another race again, I just witnessed someone lose their life in a crash and its never going to leave me.
I watched Senna die as well. Even if it was on his own, it was the most important event to make me look at racing incidents in a different way.
Indeed - the BBC have a policy of not showing replays of accidents until they know a driver is okay. I didn't even know about it until Felipe Massa's accident in Hungary; I was following it on the F1 Fanatic live blog and everyone was demanding a replay of it. Not showing a replay of an accident is a good policy, one that every broadcaster should adopt.Really is bad taste for ABC to keep showing the replay.![]()

"Many people ask me why I always sign off with 'Till we meet again.' Because goodbye is always so final. Goodbye, Dan Wheldon."
- Marty Reid
Given how quickly they showed the first replay, I suspect ABC had no idea Wheldon's life was in the balance. There were so many cars involved that it would have taken information a long time to trickle down, especially since the on-board camera (which I just saw on the morning news) showed that Wheldon didn't appear to be injured at all. He kind of launched off the car in front, rolled slightly in mid-air, and hit the outer wall at an angle. It was a big hit, but he didn't appear to be in any immediate danger because the survival cell of the car did its job.Especially in this day and age with replay's and slo-mo's from every angle. They really should show more responsibility when someone's life is in question.
