hahaha. Power has proven his stuff on road Courses in the past 3 years.
Pagenaud is suppose to be a "rookie"..

Hasn't he already won the sunoco rookie of the year award with half the season still left.?

So, with it being announced that Graham Rahal will be leaving Ganassi Racing at the end of the season, did anyone else think that he's going to end up driving for his father's team next year?

My immediate thought when I heard the news was he didn't want to play second string race team anymore for Ganassi and wanted to be a #1 at another team.

Then I saw the interview with him on Speed Center and it confirmed my speculations, other than what team he will be joining next year as that hasn't been announced yet.

Rahal is fortunate in the sense that he can take sponsorship to another team, which other drivers cannot do. Sato is running competitively at Bobby’s team, maybe Bobby wants to add another car, or Graham might plan to move to a bigger team.

I hope the predictions of rain hold true, if any circuit needs to be wet, it’s Mid-Ohio for IndyCar.

I feel that Power is going to win some road races, the points will close up, then it will be one exciting shoot out at Fontana.

The silly thing with Pagenaud is that he did complete a full season of ChampCar, yet despite both series combining their stats together, he's considered a rookie.
He's a "rookie" in terms of Indycar but he's got a fair bit of US open-wheel experience.

He's still a great driver though, I'd put him in the same light as Bourdais who has also been impressive in the Dragon car.

Yea, I was disappointed when Bourdais was in the tires after he was in the top 3 at... Toronto?

Wow. Screen Cap that qualy Lineup from Mid-Ohio.
there will be fireworks!
Power - Franchitti
Pagenaud - Dixon
Bourdais - Driscoe
RHR

That top 7 is pretty much Indycars best road racers.

So for anyone who just joined confused as to how we are watching an ESPN race with the NBC commentators, here's what's happened:

All of NBC's networks are covering the Olympics and ESPN's regular Indycar crew is now on NASCAR duty so somehow through Indycar and cooperation from both networks, we now have this interesting arrangement.

Oh and go all drivers in top 7 :D

I wonder – if Will Power were to win the title, would Indycar consider a race in Australia?

There hasn’t been a public demand for the series to visit us ever since the Gold Coast was abandoned, but a lot of the drivers come down for the (gimmicky, I admit) Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercar event, which requires all cars to have an international driver alongside their regular driver. With two Australians and a Kiwi in the series full-time (and a second Kiwi, Wade Cunningham, running at Indianapolis this year), it wouldn’t be difficult to get public interest up. It would also make sense from the teams’ perspective if the organisers were trying to get the race in China back up and running – a second race on the same flyaway leg, this time in Australia, would help to split the costs.

The hard part would be finding the proper circuit to race at. Indycar has less-stenuous demands on circuits that Formula 1, which frees things up significantly, but that doesn’t mean organisers would be spoiled for choice. Most of our circuits are either too small, too stupid, or simply our own patented brand of insane (awesome as that would be). Otherwise, a lot of the other circuits are jealously guarded by the V8 Supercars as the series’ marquee events, or have been destroyed (ie Oran Park, Amaroo, Warwick Farm) in the name of progress. But I think Indycar could quite reasonably race at Phillip Island or The Circuit Formerly Known as Prince Eastern Creek.

^What about Adelaide?

Although, I actually think the last thing Indycar need to be doing is going overseas again. I mean even the biggest teams (Penske, Ganassi and Andretti) are running race-by-race sponsor livery deals! This series is not at its greatest strength at the moment. I don't think it needs the extra expense of travelling all over the world, I'm not sure it really adds that much for sponsors.

Fair point, even for Chip Ganassi, although Scott has been running the Target scheme all year, Dario's been changing weekly. Part of me thinks they'll be put off going abroad again after the Qingdao calamity but then again, they may be looking to replace that race with another overseas event. It's tricky to tell.

Dixon runs Target all year, Franchitti runs products promoted by Target. I guess it's just how Target gets the most out of their sponsorship.

I was unaware of the Target connections; being a Brit, I have no idea about the Target corperation apart from the fact it's a big superstore chain and sponsors motorsport teams.

He's had all sorts this year apart from the usual red. The black scheme from Texas and the one he ran this last weekend are the only ones that spring to mind right now.

^What about Adelaide?
It's one of the V8 Supercars' marquee events. They won't share it with anyone. And as much as the city of Adelaide enjoys having the event there, I'm not so sure they'd welcome a second event later in the year. The Island and the Creek are much smarter choices.

Is that because they are struggling for money, or because they have a sponsor that wants to rotate their brands, or has no interest in sponsoring the team in foreign markets?

Franchitti's is a rotating brand deal, as is Marco Andretti's.

The others are multiple sponsors to spread the cost around.

As for Australia.. what about Albert Park, or is that an F1 weekend only deal?

The city of Melbourne supports the Grand Prix. The local residents aren't happy with it because of the noise. They'd be unlikely to agree to a second weekend of it.

Most Melbournians don't mind the Grand Prix - it's just unpopular with the residents closest to the circuit. That's not a problem for the people of Adelaide (at least, not that I've heard), but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will like it if a second series were to start a race there. They probably wouldn't mind if it was run in conjunction with the Clipsal 500, but the V8 Supercars won't share the event with anyone else. That would mean setting up a second event in Adelaide, which would probably be unpopular.

I wonder why Tony Kanaam had his Neon Green/Dark Green car, but now he suddenly switched to the Geico livery (Which is still awesome) a few races into the season, and hasn't gone back.

Well it isn't a good sign when they are changing the entire livery, colour and all for it.

You lose brand recognition and marketing value if you continually change the image of the car through a season.
Normally rotating through brands doesn't happen every race or so frequently, normally its a one-off thing for a bit of extra cash.

I imagine quite a few fans are getting a bit confused when Franchitti keeps turning up in completely different colours each race, I know I'm having trouble keeping track every race. Especially as there are so many blue cars this season.

I believe he only had the Brazilian based sponsor, Itaipava I believe it was, up to the Sao Paolo 300. After that he was back to his main sponsor.

I think Franchitti's car would be better served if they kept the Target red on it, but the sidepods were different colored for various brands that Target wanted to promote on his car. This way everyone still knows where his car is on track and the sponsor still gets what they want.

But, I don't see that happening.

Want to go to Target's Marketing team and suggest that? I can assist with examples ;)

Pepsi Max don't seem to be suffering that much from it when they do it in V8 Supercars - they change their liveries every few races, and they're one of the most popular teams:

So I'm guessing there's a method to the madness on Franchitti's car.

Lets also not forget his Nascar teammate, Montoya. He too has an alternating paint scheme promoting products sold at Targets.

Any more info on Mark and Jay Penske arrested??
The sons of the Captain???!! Its the apocalypse...

What is all this funny business? First Almendinger then his sons! What are they trying to get a jump on his life insurance? Long Live the Captain!

Now does not seem to be a time to even have the last name Penske right now. At least AJ was accidental, this seems more criminal.

So the owner of Dragon Racing is arrested for breaking into a yacht club snd urinating on a woman's shoes... Don't know what to say...

I think having the last name Bourdais is the real curse. It seems ever since his 4 Champcar titles he can't catch a break. He's very clearly a great driver but luck almost never goes his way.
Even more a shame because Dragon has been pretty impressive this year. I hope this doesn't affect them too much.
