Do you think Pippa will be the wo-Mann at the Freedom 100 on Carb Day tomorrow?:sly:

Anyone knows of a decent streaming to watch the Indy 500 online today?

On indycar.com the quality is rather bad.

Indy 500 about to kick off proper. Let's get it on, boys and girls! Good luck to all 33 teams and all the represented teams and nationalities.

Nice pit work........NOT!.

Amazing drive from Kaanan, all the way from the rear of the field. Heleo seems to be bidding his time. Too many cautions.

I chose a fairly good race to watch as my first ever Indy 500 :D Good racing, I'm pulling for Justin Wilson as an Englishman here. All to play for with 16 to go...

Attrition. Mistakes. Fortune. What a race! Congratulations to (the Indy 500 winner) on a job well done. I saw the race; it's just that I'm not spoling it by talking about the winner. Three racers I want to salute in this race was Tony Kannan, Danica Patrick, and Ana Beatriz. Tony Kannan, GTPlanet. If you don't think Kannan is the truth, you're not an IndyCar fan. That dude was money going from crap start to high finish. People been booing Danica Patrick with her lackluster season, but I've stuck with the green and black #7 (I miss the black and teal Motorola colors). I'm including Honorable Mention to Ana Beatriz for her finish.

Can you believe that next year's Indy 500 will be 100 years since the very first one? Someone could be a part of history for next year's Indy 500. Great race!

What about that crash on the last lap!! :eek: Very hectic. And Marco was pissed off, complaining that people passed him after the yellow came out saying he should be higher than where he placed.

Congrats to Chip Ganassi for being the first owner to win the Daytona 500 & Indy 500 in the same year.👍

Good win, good strategy, not sure he'd gone the distance with green all the way. But that's part of the game, the chances you take with fuel.

Great race from Kannan and Danica. I stick with her, she's got guts and can drive, no mate how much "bad press" she gets .

Can't agree it was a "great" race up front. It was rather boring at the lead IMO. These cars are a bit too limited in top speed to run in Indy. Overtaking is painful even when the slightest blocking is penalized and with overtaking boost.

Glad to see Conway has escaped with minor injuries from the last crash.

Let's take a look ahead while we still have time. Here's the rest of the schedule:

LEGEND:
MM/DD - Track (Defending Race Winner)

6/5 - Texas (Dario Franchitti)
6/20 - Iowa (Scott Dixon)
7/4 - Watkins Glen (Ryan Hunter-Reay)
7/18 - Toronto (Will Power)
7/25 - Edmonton (Scott Dixon)
8/8 - Mid-Ohio (Scott Dixon)
8/22 - Sears Point/Infineon (Ryan Briscoe)
8/28 - Chicagoland Speedway (Helio Castroneves)
9/4 - Kentucky (Helio Castroneves)
9/18 - Motegi (Danica Patrick)
10/2 - Homestead (Dan Wheldon)

Indy is in the rear view mirror. You all ready for the long haul to Homestead in October?

Am I allowed to walk into this thread and argue that Indy drivers aren't the fastest? :D

Fastest crashes though.

You've got to love the all-British top three at Indy too.

Yes, if you also say they are the bravest and mostly the smartest racing on open wheels (with exceptions obviously...).

First of all, I'm a long time lurker on these boards, and figured I should register and make it all official.

I got two free tickets to the race at TMS this Saturday, and it will be the first Indy race ever. I've watched a few on the television, but I'm more of a NASCAR fan. I'm still excited about going though.

Scott Dixon won last year, not Danica.

Well, I got this stuff from Yahoo! Sports' IndyCar page. So I apologize for any inaccurate content. I just wanted to use something simple. I actually didn't want to mention previous winners.

[UNRELATED UPDATE] According to The Speed Report's Facebook page...

The 2012 IndyCar Series will feature TURBO engines! Here's the status update from that page:
"The Turbo is Back! 2012 Indycar Series engine specs announced: Manufacturers can produce engines with a maximum of six cylinders. The ethanol-fueled engines will produce between 550 and 700 horsepower and will be turbocharged."

-from The SPEED Report's Facebook Fan Page ( http://www.facebook.com/thespeedreport )

Your thoughts?

So how many engine manufactureres do you think will be jumping at this prospect? I imagine Honda will be staying in the series come the 2012 season. Maybe one or two others will join in?

Also, I asked on today's RadioLeMans.com Midweek Motorsport program if there were going to be more tire makes involved come 2012 and they said probably not and Firestone will still have the series spec tire.

I also wonder if there will be any other engine suppliers trying their hand at any new turbo engine deal. It could even be a new-age (then) CART, where you had the likes of Honda, Toyota, Ford, and Mercedes-Benz. I have nothing against Honda, but I would like to see some more engine competition. Toyota would be a nice fit unless they seem too focused on NASCAR.

So if I had to compile a short list of manufacturers that would comprise the engine competition, here's an interesting list of what I think would be possible:

* Honda
* Toyota
* (Chevrolet or Ford)
* Volkswagen

I mentioned Volkswagen because I heard VW wanted to supply engines or was rumored to be among one of the different engine types in the future. I chose this list because I wanted a Japan vs. USA vs. Europe lineup of engines in the IndyCar Series.

I would guess that is the case since they pulled out of the IRL for that reason. Although they may feel differently since they have a good foundation there now.

* Wolkswagen

As much as I would like to see one of the American brands supply engines I just can't see it happening in the current economic climate. Although there is a possibility Ford could enter with the Mazda branding since most people don't link Mazda with Ford.

Here is my list.

* Honda
* FIAT
* Porsche

I would add a 4th, but not sure the size of the field would really support 4 different engine suppliers.

I also feel that Lotus will be entering as a team either next season or 2012.

The Texas Motor Speedway is often seen as the spiritual home of IndyCar Racing. I'm pretty sure the boys and girls of the IndyCar Series will put on quite a show up in Fort Worth. Yep. RACECAR country. I think either Ryan Briscoe or Scott Dixon will win tonight's race.

Best of luck to all the teams and drivers tonight!

That's the Danica Patrick I know and love! She had a great chance to win the race, but Ryan Briscoe was just too much for her late. Congratulations to Ryan Briscoe on winning this race.

Here are some notes I picked up from the pre-race show on Versus on the new engines...

* 6-cylinders maximum
* 550-700 horsepower
* 2.4 liter engines

I had everything typed up in a file, but somehow misplaced the data. Really sorry about not supplying more data for you all.

As one last piece of info, a temporary road course around Baltimore will be on the schedule for 2011. I heard it will involve parts of Camden Yards and maybe a few inner harbor roads.

Damnit man! I'm just bout to watch the highlights on Sky Sports! Haha, sounds like an interesting race from that result...

Can I ask - is the 6-cylinder thing a purely cost-cutting measure? Because they're trying to compete with NASCAR, right? And to me, a 6-cylinder does not have the same sound or visceral thrill as any V8, no matter how much HP they have. I know the V8s in these cars are small and high-revving anyway...I'unno. If it's a purely cost-cutting measure then I'll understand...I'm not passing judgement on it yet, as I don't know enough about it, could someone explain the logic? :dunce:
