Stay away from the whole wide body aero too please. I love how close the current cars look to their street car counterparts.
Yeah, I absolutely agree with this. From the outside, they need to look just like the street cars with some minor aero tweaks and racing wheels (preferably the old 5 spoke wheels from 10-15 years ago).

I'd be fine with the series just having substantially more standardised parts. If a manufacturer comes in, they should only have to bring an engine and the body shell. Perhaps even an optional standardised engine for teams who wish to bring in a new body style without manufacturer backing.
Maybe that's why adopting TCR regulations has also been proposed.

I wouldn't read too much into it. It's a single mention made in passing with nothing substantial to support it.

If VESA are deadly serious about further international expansion, there's really only one option - Mexico City. They went ballistic for Formula One, so it shouldn't be too hard to recreate that atmosphere for V8 Supercars.

Are you seriously suggesting V8 Supercars would be as big as F1 in Mexico...?

Attach them as support races for the IMSA weekend at Laguna Seca please.

The V8Supercars really shouldn't go to an international event just to be a support series. Although IMSA and the V8s in one weekend would be amazing.

I wonder how many people in Mexico know what a V8 Supercar is
Wouldn't surprise me if it was more than you think.

V8SC is very similar to Brazilian Stock Car. I can't remember the name of the series now, but there is one similar to it in Mexico.

V8 tin-top racing is extremely popular in central and South America, and they absolutely buy into the whole Chevy vs Ford battle.

I wouldn't necessarily say Mexico would be the first or only option for V8SC, but I think it's a more viable option than some are giving it credit for. Logistics aside, Mexico makes more sense to me than places like Abu Dahbi, Thailand, or even Japan.

I can also see it as a way to sort of sneakily land V8SC in North America. Racing is big in Mexico, and for whatever reasons, NASCAR can't/won't tap into that market.

Or the PWC weekend at Laguna Seca.

Because Laguna Seca.

Because Leguna Seca is always a valid reason, but that weekend is already completely jam packet with multiple rounds for all classes in the PWC.

Not at all. Just that there is an enormous potential audience right there. After all, Formula One is not the only series going to Mexico City - there are planned WEC and Formula E races as well. Evidently these championships feel that there is enough potential to merit a race, so I don't see why V8 Supercars can't use the same logic.

Sneak peak at Mostert's livery. Apparently this was taken during filming for a Supercheap commerical.

...and if V8s can race at COTA in Texas, Mexico City ain't. Far off the radar.

I do feel V8s would go ballistic at Laguna Seca. Its made for V8s: Turn1, the uphill left-hand sweeper, the Corkscrew, the dowhill left-hander, the final hairpin. So much excitement to be had in a V8SC.

Whhops! PRA will have to reveal it now.

Noise regs stop Laguna.

I've not been to that circuit. What is around there?

Edit: Just for reference, a V8SC isn't loud compared to a GT3 Ferrari or Moto GP bike or a NASCAR entering pitlane. It's about the same tone as an SLS GT3. The 2013 Erebus E63 was the loudest of the V8s.

Didn't they quiet the cars somehow for the COTA races?

Because Laguna Seca.

PWC would be the support series, like they were to the V8s at COTA in 2013.

How strict are the Laguna sound restrictions? Do they have to turn the down the sound at the Monterey Classics and all that? Sandown has very strict noise restrictions, due to it being right in the middle of suburbia. Like, literally, right in the middle of suburbs, houses all around.

I was going to bring up Sandown as well.
Sandown runs a 95dB restriction whereas Laguna Seca runs a 90dB restriction (from what I can gather).

Shouldn't pose too much of an issue.

I still reckon that running on the same bill as NASCAR at Sonoma would be a good choice. I'm pretty sure that the Nationwide Series doesn't race there, so V8 Supercars could fill that gap.

Now, you're talkin'. Sonoma is definitely another V8s type circuit.

I'd go for Sonoma - the full circuit - the weekend NASCAR run on the short course, then a stand-alone event in Mexico City, possibly with some local wildcards. Then I would try and share a weekend with Stock Car Brasil or Argentina's TC2000 (at Puerto Madera?), and get them to have one of theur rounds over here, or run it with local wildcards like Jose Maria Lopez.

Im not sure it would be the best, because if they went with the Nascar Bill they would use the Stock car layout, that layout is probably a bit too simple and removes the Slow corners for these cars to have a good race.

The Indy Layout would work much better, there is a reason why Phillip Island and Albert Park are the worst races, because high speed GP tracks with minimal low speed corners spreads the field out and makes it hard to overtake.
