Remind me never to go on the V8Central forums during a race weekend ever again. The amount of stupidity on there is unbelievable.

There was no plan in place for this set of circumstances because this set of circumstances had never been encountered before. In retrospect, it was obvious that they could have planned around it, but as the commentators frequently alluded to, nobody anticipated any rain yesterday morning, much less the deluge that inundated the circuit.
This part is, conditions have been very close to as bad (or as bad) as this before, twice.

I live in Adelaide and the chance of rain was most definitely forecast and the commentators spoke of this many times during the days telecast. Also this is not the first time it has bucketed down during the Sunday race. It was just another complete stuff up by those in charge.

'To give you an idea as to the sudden an unexpected rainfall yesterday the BOM had a 60% chance of rain of about 0.4mm.

We got 12mm during the race....'

I read this on another forum, from a person living in Adelaide. Not sure how accurate, but I assume it would quite accurate

I'm not sure how accurate either but when you get huge raindrops on the Saturday night, a forecast saying a chance of rain, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. The thing is, when you bring in new rules you should look at as many scenarios as possible. Downpoors like this are not uncommon, not only here but also for the Sydney race. Also track repairs have caused major delays during several races in the past, so I don't think it unreasonable for a rule to be in place for these circumstances, especially with the amount of Time-Certain races we have these days.

So it's VESA's fault that none of the teams were prepared for a wet race?

As I said both sides could have been prepared, more so yes it was VESA's fault. If I'm a team and I have no idea how long the race is going to go, and say it only goes 12 laps...does that mean I should have taken 3 lap stints and filled up the car between just to hope to meet the limit in place?

If your answer is yes I have a feeling you and I see racing and the rules that muddle it up in a different light.

They haven't complained about it so I assume they fixed the issue. I wonder if the new cylinder heads helped.

@GTracer38 you still up for grabbing me a poster at the AGP races?
Yeah, of course. Is their any particular driver or just all the Nissans?

Yeah the Nissan's work, specifically Caruso if it's easier to just grab one.

Got to replace this aging Jack Daniels one hanging at my desk. :p

I'll try to grab one of each. I'm going on the Saturday so it'll be interesting if there are any left.

I should check if Thursday is free admission. Edit: It isn't.

How does one go about getting a cool poster? :sly:

Shame you're not going on the Thursday. I went Last Year for the whole weekend. Thursday is honestly the best day IMO, it's a great time to admire the cars, explore the track and enjoy the market since there isn't many people to crowd you and ruin your day.

A complex dance move that sends a signal to teams, showing interest in their product...

If you want one just let me know. The tend to just have a poster stand behind the garage. They're free to get so that's no drama.

Yeah, I'd like to go but the it's a 2hr drive and parking in the city can be a pain. I just end up going with my father on the Saturday and watch the race from home.

Email me the dance moves and I'll get on it.

As for the serious bit, I'd pay you if I could get a Volvo Scotty or PRA Frosty.

I wish NASCAR had this kind of atmosphere like V8s does, it just seems more fun with the stadium trucks and the lower series as well like DVS I don't know. It all seems so much more fun, and trust me their would never be a free public day for NASCAR...

I'll try to get both.

NASCAR was pretty cool when I went there in 2011. Might've just been in awe being so far away from home but it was good. I didn't know if you could go look at the pits with a GA ticket, and people walking around eating massive turkey legs was suprizing.

NASCAR usually has GA allowance during certain parts of the weekend, and then after the pit pass takes priority. NASCAR don't get me wrong is quite open to the fans like V8s, it's just having the extra stuff on the side before the race to add to the atmosphere of going.

Different support category format I guess. The major V8SC events have a lot more going on though.

Cool, thanks. 👍

As I said both sides could have been prepared, more so yes it was VESA's fault.
My point is that it's popular and easy to slam the sport's governance than to hold the teams accountable. If the weather was as ominous as it was made out to be and that VESA should have foreseen the situation arising, then so too should the teams have predicted it and factored it into their race strategies to compensate. The fuel drop works in such a way that 140 litres goes in, but it can come straight back out; that's why there are two hoses.

Not exactly how it works, only the vent line fills, you can't just dump the lot. Teams with greater fuel burn are at an advantage with this system, and those at the back willing to gamble.
''Importantly, others later took full advantage of the fact that teams can ‘vent’ fuel through the cars in their pitstops as part of the minimum drop.

The practice sees the fuel flow out of the rig, into the car and back up the vent line, which subsequently gets drained by the team in the garage.

“Everyone was able to get the fuel in, you just had to come in and out of the pits,” Red Bull team manager Mark Dutton told Speedcafe.com.

“We pitted Shane (van Gisbergen) two or three times in a row. Under Safety Car he was using very little fuel, so we were just pitting him to fill up the vent line and sending him again.''
Also it still doesn't fix the fact of other unforeseen circumstances eg. track repairs and accidents. With time certain races being in place nobody can possibly predict the length of some races.

Forgetting Sundays race this season is shaping up to be one of the best for a long time, half the field is probably capable of taking poles and race wins. Also can't wait to see Jamie and SVG go head to head, Craig has always been a bit too gentlemanly when he and Jamie were fighting but I think Shane won't go so easy on him.

The race start should have been aborted, and the grid should have been reset once they were able to get back underway,

VESA is run by prehistoric dinosaurs with Alzheimers, they still think the cars are as technically advanced as a rock, and do lap times 35 seconds slower then what the cars can physically do, they throw 'time certain' around like its nothing and expect everyone to 'just deal with it', the only races that should be time certain are ones where you actually race to a countdown timer, if time certain is going to continue then why not just run the races to a countdown timer?

There is only one race recently that overshadows the colossal stuff up that was that race and it was the IndyCar race at NOLA last year, but that was down to terrible driving mostly,

Eh as said with the two hoses that's not the case exactly. As for the slam of VESA, this time they deserve the hit because they never had a hold of the race from the get go and dropped the ball. Why the teams have to play fortune teller in something that could have been either moved ahead or after by the Governing Body is beyond me. They're there to race and strategise, they had no idea how long the race would last and the scope kept changing with the weather conditions. Hell it wasn't even abundantly clear to those of us who watched the race.

Teams sure could have tried to force the situation and burn off as much as possible, but there would be no guarantee they'd ever match because only one group in this argument had the power to call the race at any time. And it sure as hell wasn't the teams, which is why your perspective is a bit strange. Then again, it could be because you have it out for certain teams on a regular having too much control over the series, so much so they whitewash your view on every team.

Guess we'll hear what was said on Inside Supercars in 6 minutes.

Just then, Neil Crompton said it, in response to Ingall's question if there have been recent tests of fuel economy and is there a bid difference, "Yes, there have been recent tests. No, there is no big disparity."

Mark Skaife's face when Russell Ingall said the fuel drop is too complicated. Those two will never truly get along.

The short version of that conversation I guess.http://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsp...t/news-story/27e30d1d36c040aecc632bf6b9fed739

Skaife and Crompton nailed it I think. Too many other racing series run around trying not to use fuel and driving to fuel number and it is good that the V8's are forced into turning up the heat and pushing every lap.

Moving forward adding a pro-rated clause,a clearly defined penalty, and suspending the fuel rule for a declared "wet" race are needed as soon as possible.
