Fairuz / Yoong in a KL-Petronas FG X for Bathurst. Heard it here first :p

So win at least one race by April or bye bye?

Anyone team feel like risking a car for a guy that's never driven one?

No, didn't think so.

I figured this would be a suggestion. From last year, it was said Malaysia loves the V8s. It only makes sense for a local driver to enter the series as a wild card for KL City and Bathurst. A Malaysian team entering the DVS, even for one season, would probably be a better bet.

Leads me to the old VE Commodores in the UK. Those owners run their own series of ex-V8SCs. A good intro if someone were to seek running in V8s.

To be fair, Marcos Ambrose has plenty of experience in V8 Supercars, just not in COTF spec

That's the Mattias Ekstrom and Andy Priaulx car.
To be fair, Ekstrom is a DTM champion who's proven to be quick in nearly every car he tries.
Fauzy seems to have driven open-wheelers most of his career.

X-Box Commodore not X-Box Falcon :p

Haha yeah I know, just being a smartarse

I have been busy for the last few days and just caught up on all the races. Heres my summary:

  • 3 Ford poles, 3 Holden wins, Nissan leads the championship, and the Volvo is fast = should be a good year :D:D
  • Great to see Penske do somewhat well, they just need to get the races right.
  • Erebus seem worse off with their Holdens than their Mercs (could still be getting up to speed)
  • Blanchard is just stupid (this is from Race 2)
  • Happy for Lucas and Percat on the win. Even if the conditions were crazy, they did the job.
  • Prisonermonkeys usual RBRA rant in a V8SC weekend. Complains more than the guy he complains about
  • The Nissan cars look so much better this year (so far). Caruso was the quiet achiever.
  • Winterbottom seems to be struggling while Chaz shows he hasnt lost any speed.
  • Waters impressed me, he did very well for his first event!
  • Holdsworths window numbers are horrible, I couldnt read it at all.
  • Courtney and HRT are looking promising, showing great signs of speed in both the wet and dry.
  • Lowndes seems to be a bit off this year but we'll see how he gets on. He was good but just didnt shine as he usually does.
  • Whincup is showing good speedy signs while SVG is right up to speed. Not quite on Jamies level yet but he did well.
  • The race 3 fuel scandal obviously needs to be cleared up. Obviously no one knew the rules or what the penalties would be. I like the idea of the percentage based on race completion. Its simple and easy and fair IMO.

All in all, this bodes well for a good years worth of racing! Can't wait!

Reynolds on Sunday did a reasonable job, Aaren Russell on the other... It will be long year for the folks working on his car.

But rough to say that Winterbottom seems to be struggling, it's the first round, hardly enough time to make any sort of judgement.

Yeah Holdsworth number looked terrible, I really like the idea of the personalised numbers, but I had feeling we'd some terrible looking ones as well. GRM, HRT, Penske and Caruso all have really cool ones, Dale Wood's also looks really bad.

Same as Winterbottom, far to early to say. And also, he did a great job on Sunday, Courtney and Lowndes, and a little of McLaughlin were in a league of there at some stages of the race.

---------

If it wasn't for the fuel scandal and race stoppage (which was most definitely the right call), it was a cracking weekend. Saturday gave us a race finish that could rival McLaughlin Vs Whincup from Clipsal 2014. Sundays race action was ripper as well, ignoring the odd start and confusion with whether or it actually started, when the racing got underway it was fantastic. Courtney, Lowndes, McLaughlin, Mostert (until the crash), Coulthard and Rick Kelly were having a great race and it was super entertaining. Tander also had good car speed in the rain, but got himself caught up with other people.

Also, this is one of the best presented grids for quite a while. Every car had sponsorship, and every good looked. Although, I really hope that SP Tools hang around with LDM, it would be good to continue seeing a grid full of well presented cars.

Blanchard is just stupid (this is from Race 2)

So laughable that he blamed Tander for that incident. Still makes me laugh, what a crybaby Blanchard is.

Exactly. You have to remember too, that PRA didn't exactly set the world on fire at Adelaide last year either and look what happened for the rest of the season.

If you're old enough to remember John Blanchard racing, you'll understand where he gets his attitude. It was never John's fault either*

*sarcasm

I expect that if the plan went ahead, Fauzy - or whoever was chosen - would get some time with the car in advance of the race. And I doubt that the Malaysians expect their man to win or even perform; rather, they just want to see a Malaysian driver running in the Malaysian races.

$500,000 deposited into a team owner's account might make it happen. Otherwise it's wishful thinking.

I'm sure a company like Petronas could easily afford that.

I'd just have to have it worth the effort of my team and the money there to cover a complete write off if he tries the hero thing in P2 after finding out he's seconds off the pace.
Besides that it's a bad idea from a championship driver point of view. Anyone remember Matt Neal in the Big Kev car at Hell Corner 2000?
I understand the draw the crowd thing but it's a very risky deal that's been proposed.

I was going to comment before this, that if the Malaysian people(gov't and corps) are so interested in this then perhaps they should have stared something like Indonesia. With Petronas as the backer since they're willing to give tons of money to a non-national group of people, then come back in 5-10 years time with the idea...

I'm just waiting to see what DJRTP surprise us with.

Maybe not, if it was so expensive to run them.
http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/championship/betty-goes-from-sad-to-glad/

I do wonder how they would run with a different engine though.
No doubt, it wouldn't make sense or be cost effective when a team could just buy an ex-main game car.
Betty is obviously passionate about the three pointed star brand as she was running the GT3 SLS before she wanted to pioneer the E63 into Supercars. That was never going to be a cheap exercise & I applaud her for having a go. It shows the determination of the woman.
Perhaps her biggest mistake was taking this decision before she tied up a water tight contract with MB HQ in the Germany?
I suspect if she had her time again, she would've stayed with the SBR developed Fords and, possibly been able to keep SVG in the stable. Maybe not but it certainly would've saved her a few pennies.

For sure. I'm thinking of the KL City round. IF, BIG "IF" a Malaysian driver is green-lit as a wildcard, would a COTF ride be supplied or an old DVS car? The E63s are parked. Would Betty be willing to loan two cars(in car one is totalled) or one plus spare parts, forthat driver to use?

Who's to say it would be Betty that V8s call on? Could be an FG II or any used spare chassis from any tram. I'm just curious about how this can play out. For the benefit of V8s in Asia anyway.

Money talks & BS...well, you know.

Would that tram chassis be a new hybrid build? :p

Its hard to keep track of chassis, they started out with 3, then went to 2, leaving a reserve, then Will Davidson joins and I believe he got a new chassis, brings the coin to 4, then Holdsworth destroyed one at Sandown, and then another at Bathurst, I'm not sure if that was the same car rebuilt or the Engel car, I'm sure there are 2 fully in tact E class V8s almost ready to race....

From what I know, there is one that's basically ready to race (just sitting in between their Commodore's and GT's), one that is in pieces and one that can't decide if its a Ford or a Mercedes (but I don't know if that one was stripped back down after GC 2014).
