It's been there since Clipsal, but has been reduced massively as Simon McNamara was apparently unimpressed with it. Wouldn't surprise me if he brings in Toyota with the help of one Steve Halam. Makes sense considering V8SC are in talks with a prominent carmaker for a future entry in the series. And also since Lexus opted not to participate in V8SC, keeping the door open for parent company, Toyota. Is Mostert good or what?
The Future is in control. Awesome stuff.
Hmm, Toyota branding on Holdsworth's wing.![]()
It sounds like a gimmick, that's the problem. Gimmicks in my eyes should always be judged as bad despite what "entertainment" value they bring.
After seeing those tyre failures in the last race, should we just give drivers ultra ultra hard ones to prevent this from occuring again?
Everything has an entertainment value to it, everything is a gimmick in a way, so again I dont see the problem with this.
As for Phillip Island: it was a pretty interesting race, some good battles through out the field and well done to Scotty. I think he and the team really needed that, not just for Volvo but for themselves. Everyone else seemed about normal but DJRTP had a really good strategy it seems. BJR left it too late but DJRTP got it just about right, its a shame what happened to Pye but that team is looking good and strong.
I believe this is now 6 different winners from 6 races?? You think there will be a 7th different tomorrow?![]()
I thought for this season the hard compound was last years soft, and the new soft was an even softer version?About the hard compound tyre. Even if the tyre failures were due to rocks, that construction might not have enough give. Maybe the soft tyre is the better all around option. Create a super soft for Super Street races.

I have to disagree with you about the current Hard tyre. From this

It appears they are still using a hard compound and the soft from last year.
They should go with the grippier tyre with high deg, for the Super Street races. Leave the current soft as the standard tyre. Do away with a hard compound. I'm sure they could make a grippier tyre with a strong sidewall. As Dunlop mentioned, there isn't enough to determine what happened as those tyres are completely destroyed.
Look like there's room for one or two new manufacturers.3 Fords, 3 Holdens, 2 Nissans and 2 Volvo's in the top 10. Good variety, nice to see.
I have to disagree with you about the current Hard tyre.
In my opinion, whenever you limit the grip level in a class of racing, it makes the application of brakes/power and cornering grip a fine line operation that's very easy to overstep the mark and that in itself allows the very best drivers to rise to the top. Anyone hamfisted in their approach is quickly found out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for Supercars to adopt Bob Jane All Rounder taxi tyres but please give us a tyre that allows the drivers to belt the hell out of them without fear of overheating or failure.
Whatever tyres they used to put on a Sierra for a 1 hour race around Amaroo or Winton proves it is possible.
Is that the best Qualifying result the 34 has ever had?
EDIT: yesterday's race result for Moffat was the best ever for the 34 Volvo, it took it 80 races to finish in the top 10.
