But I say I want to see Scotty remain at GRM because the team attitude (family oriented, close, a bit carefree and a bit of fun) perfectly suits Scotty's attitude.
Attitude counts for nothing if they can't back it up with results.

That would make Scotty the "lead" driver at Penske, he has out performed both DJRTP drivers this year

GRM do have long term stability. It's the same as PRA not having factory support. Erebus with the E63. Imagine Erebus had Giz, Slade and Holdsworth in Falcons. Had GRM stayed with the Commodore, we wouldn't be talking about this. He would have won Bathurst by now. ;)

They changed to Volvos. That's all. DJRTP afford "The Future" with more opportunities(to connect with NASCAR anyway). I'm not worried. Garry will have things ready for next year.

VASC may as well rename themselves the Gestapo the way they act.
Don't say anything negative or it'll be deleted so trot out endless fluff pieces or shut up  :irked:
Reminds me of the dolts running NASCAR with that sort of management attitude. :banghead:

DJRTP is in a better long term position than GRM is in, as DJRTP actually has it's future secured
All they need now is for Charlie Schwerkolt to give up the #18. DJR's cars really should be #17 and #18.

I'd like to have seen Scotty remain at GRM for the same reasons as @NW48 mentioned before. But with the uncertainty surrounding what they're going to be running next year, can't blame the guy at all for making the move to DJRTP.

I'm someone who's all for nostalgia, but I'm not bothered by #18 being with Schwerkolt's team. #12 is a Penske number so it makes sense for DJRTP to have DJR's most iconic number and and one of Penske's most iconic numbers.

I see #12 on the side of a V8 Supercar - especially a DJR car - and I am immediately reminded of the dark days when the team had to take Dean Fiore. It got so bad that Johnson had to sell most of his collection of cars, and he was pretty much living on the minimum wage.

Say, if anyone is looking to come to Australia, keep checking the Nissan Motorsport ads.

Ex-Roush Fenway NASCAR engineer Matt Rumfield is busily getting up to speed at Nissan Motorsport as he prepares to take over duties on Todd Kelly’s Altima in Townsville.

Rumfield relocated to Australia early last week to begin duties with the team just a month after first hearing of the vacancy via an online job advert.

Kelly’s season had been thrown an unexpected curveball when previous engineer and long-time Nissan Motorsport staffer Jesse Walker departed suddenly for a new job in the United States.

Rumfield will have little over two weeks at the team’s workshop in Braeside, Melbourne, before stepping into the race engineering role at his first Supercars race meeting on July 8-10.

Previously working at Ford NASCAR powerhouse Roush Fenway Racing as part of its workshop-based design team for almost two years, Rumfield says he’s keen to get back to his road racing roots.

“It was a very whirlwind move and there was a couple of rough nights getting everything sorted but I’m really excited to be here,” Rumfield told Speedcafe.com.

“I grew up as a road course racer and the move to Roush was about feeling out what it’d be like to work in a team of that size
with that sort of resources.

“During my time there I did some soul searching and realised it wasn’t really for me due to the fact that I have a passion for being at the track as opposed to sitting at a desk turning parts out.

“I’ve followed the Supercars series for the last 12 years or so and I always wanted to come out here.

“As far as actually landing this role it’s definitely a win for me on all fronts.”

Before joining Roush, Rumfield spent the best part of four years working at the famed Skip Barber Racing School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Although his direct race engineering experience is limited, the Las Vegas native says he learnt plenty of valuable skills from his
colleagues in similar roles at Roush.

Nissan Motorsport’s facility has, meanwhile, impressed Rumfield, despite the relatively diminutive size of Supercars teams compared with their NASCAR counterparts.

“Nissan Motorsport has similarities as well as some advantages over a company such as Roush Fenway particularly in the machining department,” he said.

“This is definitely a top level facility with top level personnel and support.”

Rumfield is also looking forward to the design challenges posed by the Supercars Championship, which although featuring a swathe of control parts, offers greater freedom than NASCAR.

“The thing about NASCAR is that they give you a huge book of regs and each part has a very, very small window that you can work in,” he explained when asked to compare the two classes.

“You’re just looking at fractions of a percent in a few areas in order to get a gain somewhere.

“Here it seems to be a bit more free as far as being a bit more creative in your design.

“As far as where I come from this is a breath of fresh air in terms of freedom and manoeuvrability.”

Rumfield is not the first American race engineer to work at the Kelly family owned team after countryman Scott Besst guided the squad’s Pepsi Max Crew entry in 2012.

DJR Team Penske Announcement:

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN TO RACE FOR DJR TEAM PENSKE BEGINNING IN 2017

DJR Team Penske today announced that one of the top rising stars in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, Scott McLaughlin, will join the team beginning in 2017 to drive the No. 17 DJR Team Penske Ford.

Currently ranked third in the Supercars Championship standings, McLaughlin brings experience and an impressive level of success to DJR Team Penske despite being just 23 years old.

Now in his fourth full year competing in the Supercars Championship, McLaughlin has earned eight race wins, 17 pole positions and 22 podium results. He has finished in the top 10 in the final championship standings in each of his seasons as a full-time competitor.

McLaughlin will be paired with Fabian Coulthard to lead a two-car DJR Team Penske program in 2017.

“There’s no question that Scott McLaughlin is one of the top drivers in the series and we’re excited to bring him aboard at DJR Team Penske,” said team founder Dick Johnson.

“With the combination of McLaughlin and Coulthard we look forward to chasing race wins next season in what really is the most competitive touring cars series in the world.”

McLaughlin has posted seven top-five results in the first 13 races this season, including a pair of victories from pole position in Races 6 and 7 at the WD-40 Phillip Island SuperSprint.

“We have watched Scott closely over the last few seasons and have admired his talent and his ability to get the best results out of his car week in and week out,” said Roger Penske.

“As we continue raise the level of performance at DJR Team Penske we believe he will be a key addition to our Team on and off the track.”

No mention at all of the other Scott involved in all this. Classy

They probably want to let him make an announcement himself whenever he's ready. Or he has a deal in the works that he's not allowed to speak of yet.

That may be the case but thanking the guy for his efforts so far wouldn't kill anyone would it.

Speaking of Pye, I agree that it could be something Pye has in the works via Roland Dane.
Moving Lowndes to Team Vortex and hiring van Gisbergen did seem to be Triple Eight preparing for a post-Lowndes future.

I don't know how long Lowndes has a contract for. Could be year on year, until Lowndes hangs up his 888. Whenever that will be...

I do know Inside Supercars will be interesting tonight.

Is Roland still managing Pye? I'm sure the guy has something in the works, he's proven that he's more than deserving of a full time seat in the main game.

I'm pretty sure he has a contract for 2017, but after that, I have no idea.

I think there was something about his mother or him, self managing at some point. However, Dane did mention it was up to Pye to make his choice on staying with DJRTP.

As far as I know, Pye isn't managed by RD anymore.

I do recall word that he has a contract till the end of 2018, but don't quote me on that. I can personally see Lowndes going to at least 2020 though.

Not sure how I feel about this one I pretty much got back into watching Supercars because of Scotty and the Volvo. I was a die hard Holden fan when I was younger before I stopped watching I know it's less about manufacturer now and more about your favourite driver. But I just don't think the FGX suits Mclaughlin I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I've followed Craig his whole career from karts to now & as long as he's competitive I'd like to see him stick around. What I don't want to see, and I'm sure he won't, is for him to just be making up the numbers cause he can.
I'd rather see him take 'specialist' drives overseas & concentrate on the blue riband events here at home.
One thing's for sure. When he does retire from full time Supercars, he'll have to great teammates in JW & SVG wanting him as their co-driver for the enduros. Who wouldn't?

I wonder what else Ambrose put in Penske's and Cindric's ears.

"You should expand to two cars. You should sign Scott McLaughlin. You should switch to Mazda. You should bring Marcos a grilled cheese sandwich every Friday. You should campaign to take the series back to America."
