Not sure if it's been officially shown off yet, But Todd Kelly will be in a Boat Sales car this weekend. Instead of the blue highlights of the Carsales car, it is yellow.

I don't think Williamtown is really an option - it backs onto Newcastle Airport, so it would be hard to keep the public airport open.

Indycar President Mark Miles said today that he is interested in a February race at Surfers Paradise, is there any chance Supercars would make some changes to their schedule and open the season there?

It would mean giving up on one of the endurance races, and taking the season-opening race away from Adelaide, which won't be popular.

I suppose a swap between the events could happen, with Clipsal becoming a part of the Enduro Cup and Surfers' being the opening round, but the series outgrew Surfers' a decade before they left it.

Honestly, they'd be better off going to Adelaide.

Why do Supercars even have to be involved in an Indycar event?
If Indycar want the Supercars as a support race or equal billing, they can work around a date that suits us not them.
The season opens at Clipsal in Adelaide. Any change to that will be on the heads of those that choose to walk the plank with a big majority of supporters.

Those schedule dates clash with the St.Pete round and the weekend for the Clipsal round looks full already with support races so that will never work. My little troll of a avatar would probably bribe some government officials to keep the Indycars away from the F1 date in March.

Cost. It takes money to build a street circuit and to do it twice in a year would probably never be approved. If I am honest after watching a onboard of the current Surfers track the track is boring and way too short now.

Well in that case, as I said earlier, they can fit in with our calendar or sell it to someone who cares.

Are people forgetting how the V8s always played second fiddle to these guys? Races cut short & the event timetable turned on its friggin head so Indycar could put on a show.

Also I really don't see why V8s would have to need them...

Sponsorship trouble for LDM:

http://www.speedcafe.com/2016/07/07/legal-action-over-ldm-sponsor-deal/

The short version - they signed a deal until 2020 with Freechoice, a tobacconist franchise that also sells sports memorabilia and the like. VESA stepped in and said no as it violated anti-tobacco sponsorship laws. LDM decided to run an interim livery promoting a business owned by Freechoice's CEO, but he challenged it. So now the cars will run a blank livery in Townsville.

Part of me is happy they're not being sponsored by that persons company because he's a tosser, but I'm sad that they have no sponsorship for the weekend.

he's a tosser
I thought that the article's description of him as a "self-styled 'playboy'" spoke volumes myself.

I'm sad that they have no sponsorship for the weekend.
On the positive side, it's good that they can get interest from potential long-term sponsors. No team has really brought any major sponsor to the sport since Red Bull (except maybe Sengled, but still don't think anybody knows who they are). The rolling sponsorship model works for DJRTP because it fits the Penske business model, but I don't think that it would be sustainable for the long term, particularly among smaller teams like LDM.

The constant changing of sponsors and livery has gotten old for me. I understand some companies only commit for a short time and smaller teams have to do what they have to do but it kind of cheapens the series for me. Cars don't get a chance to get that iconic livery and you can hardly tell what year any highlight packages are from.

Also not keen on February Surfers race. It's hot enough in October. The new track is pretty dull.

That's why I think the DJRTP approach works - they keep the same basic design, even if the colours and logos change.

In other livery changes HRT will have State of Origin logo's on the cars this weekend. Tander as well will be running the number "W2", in honour of West Australian speedway driver Shane Krikke who recently passed away from cancer.

a tobacconist franchise

Did they seriously think that they'd be allowed to run tobacco related sponsor?

I understand what you're saying about the liveries changing like the weather but that's down to Supercars pricing themselves out of the market place. It's so damn competitive nowadays & despite the 'best' efforts of the rulemakers to drive down costs, the money just isn't out there for someone to jump on board for the whole season. Numbers in excess of $5 million surely scare the crap out of many a potential sponsor but, they may be interested in half a season or certain marquee events for a smaller number.
I kinda think on one hand the team's hate it but on the other, all these livery changes is a merchandiser's dream. How many different t-shirts can they squeeze into a racing year?

Well, they don't just sell tobacco anymore. If they did, they'd likely go out of business. Ever since tobacco restrictions came into effect, they have worked to reposition themselves as a sort of high-end variety store aimed at men; there's one that I know of that sells hyper-detailed scale models of V8 Supercars, or replica NRL jerseys.

Just saw the interview with McLaughlin from "Inside Supercars".

Am I the only one who thinks that he looks like Craig Lowndes circa 1996?

Reynolds quickest in practice 1. Hopefully 3 Nissan's in the top 10 is a good sign for the weekend to come. (that 4th car doesn't exist to me :p) Red Bull had a weird start to the weekend with a Lowndes spin, two SVG offs, and Whincup hitting the wall.
