Umm, anyone with Foxtel notice Inside Supercars is missing from the menu?

It's on hiatus I'm pretty sure until the week of the Townsville round.

Yeah, I noticed too. But we do get to see the World's Fastest Bogan win Assen.

Haha. I read he drinks out of his shoe at the end. Oh, wait. Was I supposed to use a "Spoiler"?:sly:

That's not cool. Biggest news of the season(until The Future wins Bathurst and the C'hip :D ). Should be a VASC Breaking News or something. I don't watch tv news. So, I don't know if it was mentioned on those channels.

It's been mentioned on Fox Sports News a few times.

I thought I would be disappointed by McLaughlin's decision to leave GRM, but considering what team he's joining plus my assumption that he would have stayed with GRM had Volvo decided to continue their program... I'm fine with it.

That'a an odd decision. It is a highly competitive and professional series, so I wonder if that's all there is to it?

DTM and WTCC have a similar arrangement, so it makes sense to have a path like this. How many Australian drivers could have cut it in Europe, but never got the chance to? Look at Anton di Pasquale, who had a stellar Formula Renault 2.0 campaign, but is now trundling around in the Dunlop Series. Could a driver like Scott McLaughlin cut it in Formula One? And what would this have done for Craig Lowndes twenty years ago? Or look at Harry Hayek, who was doing pretty well in British Formula 4 until his team collapsed.

Even if nothing comes of it, at least the option is there.

James Courtney as well. He actually participated in another series AND won a V8 C'hip.

Well he actually tested for the Jaguar F1 team at Monza before a pretty hefty crash as a result of a suspension failure put an end to that.

Yeah, you're absoutely right on all points. More unexpected than odd.

I wonder if some F4 or even Toyota Racing Series graduates will opt for Supercars if they can't find a drive in Europe straight away.

The catch is that you need 40 points over three years to qualify for a superlicence - even if you place in the top three of the yet-to-be-realised Formula 2 championship, where all three places are worth 40 points - and only the top eight V8 Supercar drivers score any points; first place gets 13, while eighth only gets one. Compare that to DTM and the WTCC, where first gets 15 points (although both have a greater emphasis on downforce).

My guess is that it's intended for young drivers who are forced to make a choice early on: stay in Australia and commit to V8 Supercars, or take a chance on Europe. Those points would represent an early example of a driver's potential.

They are still talking to Ford. However, I wonder about Penske's influence, to gather local Ford dealers looking to fund a Mustang program.

There should hopefully be an influx of talent stuck in the middle of continuing what they're doing or looking for a drive in Europe coming into the series, which can only be good for the future of the series. And if the influx is large enough, maybe it could lead to a grid expansion and the doing away of the REC system.

All wishful thinking of course.

How big could the DVS field get? If they stsy, would Nissan benefit by offering factory support to multiple teams? How many potential team owners and sponsors would like to join the series? Bigger grids is good but, how many teams can the series manage for overseas events?

I think that there are rules limiting potential factory support.

Not enough. A lot of the teams are small privateer outfits that won't have the resources to compete overseas.

This is similar to what I was getting at with my question about more teams/drivers in DVS. For stuff like this: invites to Wildcard entries in Bathurst, replacing injured or drivers let go from contracts. There aren't many seats in either tier.

Doesn't he race a T8 VF? He may be on the pace in Qualy. I'll give him the benefit. Would be a bit different if he wasn't racing from the start of the season. Plus, he's racing against drivers that have a bit more etiquette(at times questionable :sly: ) than the DVS.

Kurt Kostecki to replace Reindler (Holdsworth) in Townsville next week.

Okay, they are still a fairly new team but I find it a little strange that they don't have a spare chassis sitting around for situations like this.

Anyway great opportunity for Kurt.

With less than twenty-four hours until the election, Ricky Muir does something!

http://www.speedcafe.com/2016/07/01/sandown-heritage-listing-campaign-launched/

For our non-Australian viewers, Ricky Muir is a first-term senator from the obscure Motoring Enthusiasts' Party, a micro-party that somehow got into the Senate at the last federal election despite nobody really knowing what their platform was (they mostly got in through a complex and convoluted series of preferences). Since then, Muir hasn't really done anything - he had been a senator for nearly two years before giving his maiden speech - until now, with a double dissolution election (which means we vote for both houses of parliament at the same time) tomorrow.

Alliance Trucks Parts livery for Slade this weekend.

Edit: Pity it's only a one off, it's million times better than his regular Freightliner livery.
