Corvette DP's lead day 1 while the Lig/HPD's are holding back, PC upgrades are worth 1.5 sec, GTLM are all sandbagging, and GTD is very close. The surprise for me is the Dragonspeed Oreca 05 that is within 1 sec running in ELMS spec. One thing of note the weather is very cool for middle Florida with temps in the 60's yesterday.

Seriously IMSA? Deltawing was slightly quick on a track where it should be quick and you completely nerf it. I maybe get BoP for teams that don't design their cars but come on now....

I'm not so sure it's all BoP considering that's still a full second better than what they managed in last years qualifying.

Bumps and DW dont mix and the car has always struggled there. Last 2 yrs in Imsa spec the car qualified in the 55's, last ALMS race Q time was a 53.8, and this morning Andy Merrick did a 53.1. It was also the fastest car in the speed trap yesterday.

You know, here's something hilarious to take away: Even without wins, this car will go out having accomplished in both open and closed top forms outlasting AND outpacing the car it got its tub from.

Dragonspeed will now run a FIA/ACO spec 40.0mm

HPD loses more HP

DW loses it weight but still has less restrictor than Daytona.

Ford sandbagged their way to a nice boost increase near redline.

and the double piss-off to Krohn and the Lizards for their entry and good luck with your new straw too.

After watching the Daytona 24hr in fractions since the event, I really don't understand the BoP changes in GTLM, the M6 just needed a slight increase in BHP and I mean slight, like 5BHP maximum,

Cause with anything BMW in American Endurance, they somehow find a way through RLL to get BoP in their favor. The sad reality is the car was fast and probably had a chance at a win on it's first outing, and it'd be nice to see what it could have done as is in Sebring without changes.

I agree IMSA should have left things the same for Sebring. It's too early in the life cycle of these cars (well, the Ford, BMW and Ferrari anyways) to be messing around with BOP as the teams will find that little extra pace they were lacking as they fine tune the cars.

Anyways I predict the Corvettes will win, prompting IMSA to nerf them to oblivion again just like the last couple years.

It doesnt help when the teams sandbag constantly. It makes it hard to tell what they can do.

While I don't doubt they do this, everyone seems to in these tests and not just IMSA stuff but international series like F1 and WEC do it to. But like those I think testing has always been driven toward finding stint pace/speed as opposed to one lap overall speed. And if that's the case then we should expect them to run with in a race mode stint setting where consistent laps that are a few seconds off quali times happen.

Oh totally. IMSA is far to quick to judge. Now with the Lambo thing, I get knocking off some power cause that thing was Overpowered. But with this whole GTLM stuff, its pretty rediculous. You wanna give the Vette like...5KG okay fine. But to knock it down like that? pfft.

They did the same crap to Viper when they did good in 2014. They instantly went from 1250-1265 after Daytona even though they had problems. They arent the best on tyres but they rock lap times by a small margin.

Only IMSA does this. FIA/ACO atleast gives the cars a chance.

Eh I don't fully agree with the last line. Aston Martin has cried foul for many seasons on the BoP saying they're at disadvantage (same crap they tried in GTLM and ended up leaving cause they didn't get their way). When they do get their way and other cars are give more restriction they still complain that it's too little even after they win a race due to BoP.

That seems more like an Aston Martin thing than a Sanctioner thing. Theyve been all over the place with BoP for years. Great team but...Lol the complaints. They did give in at Fuji and they gave them another .3mm for this year in Am.

But its better one car than the whole field shuffling every other race. *cough* IMSA. Im all for new winners, but it shouldnt be bought with BoP.

And as far as Aston complaining in IMSA, they even had their 1195KG at that point (which alot of people didnt like). Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The point simply is one of the FIA actually having reasonable judgment many times on BoP rather than doing what IMSA has done. The evaluation time to me and others doesn't make sense especially for a cycle season where new cars from most manufactures are introduced to the series or internationally.

Bop in GTE/GTLM is totally stupid. Just balance power with weight and your done. If someone does a better job in other areas and wins races. GOOD. It's up to everyone else to get better. Thats way racing happens. It's called racing to improve the breed.

It's also why there has been an insane amount of different formulas over the last 50 years. I'm not a huge fan of BoP, but the longevity of some of these programs speaks volumes.

I personally feel like there should be atleast a 2-3 race cycle before BoP is touched and ACO/IMSA/FIA should have full Data sheets on how the cars act through a race. IMSA said they were letting off early an getting on the throttle later at Daytona so that may be similar to what Im mentioning. Regardless, 1 race in and already they shunted the Vette for winning. No ofense but...seems like it had fresher tyres than Porsche to me. I could be wrong though. Its not like it turned into a DP out of nowhere.

I will say I'll take this over GT1. BoP in that was really...straining.

IMSA should have all the data they need. I thought I read that they had their own box (data recorder) in every car that the teams did not have any access to. If so, they know exactly who was doing what, where and when.

As much as I'm not big on BOP, I also pose this question: What would you prefer, full fields with changing power or weight here and there (2016 GTLM)or a field of only 4 cars with only 2 of them ever winning races? (2008 GT1)

So wheres the problem. If Corvette opened it up abit at the end and they knew, why did they get hammered? Seems far fetched to me. Porsche probably knew what would happen if they went at Corvette with everything they had towards the end.

This was exactly why I hated GT1. It became a bore especially when every other team quit ALMS GT1 since it wasnt really fair to fight Corvettes LS7.R, and it never really got hit either. Everyone says Corvette Racing was the best GT1 team. Well kinda hard not to be when you have ZERO competition and the other GT1s struggle to keep pace.

So as for 2016 BoP GTLM, idm it, just the changes are far to drastic. And why the hell isnt IMSA using FIA BoP for GT3? It works just fine.
