That has more to do with aerodynamic design. The wider tyres allow for much more grip from them when aero downforce decreases.

I think.

Yes it will give mechanical grip but there will always be a massive downwash coming off the tires, their not aerodynamic and the bigger the worst this case becomes. Which is why they did other things like lower the rear wing and set up the profile different. And give a wider v shaped front wing, as well as better flow and larger aero parts in the mid section of the car (barge boards). I don't think it will improve the racing a ton. I feel the issue here is they want the cars to go faster and also some how have close racing. We'll see though how much it goes one way other the other soon enough.

The back section of Albert Park might give us a hint, but isn't the best track. Maybe tracks with long sweeping corners or with esses, like at Silverstone.

There'll be pre-season testing at Circuit de Catalunya, I imagine the drivers will get a feel for the wake effects there and (hopefully) comment on it.

I'm predicting they'll be saying the extra grip is nice but it disappears if you get to close to the car in front. Dirty air and all.

Pirelli are working on tyres which can quickly recover from overheating, at least. So drivers will still most likely have trouble following another car but they'll hopefully be able to recover after more than one attempt at attacking.

With the bigger aero, there's a good chance we'll get to see more traditional old school slipstreaming but, I can't help but feel most of the passing will be done thanks to DRS & pitstops.

I've heard people suggesting Manor could be bought out by a group of Asian investors, fronted by Ron Dennis. I haven't seen any source or basis for these claims though so it's most likely just a pipe dream but it would be a big F.U. to McLaren, if so.

I guess this belongs here right? Money is how they develop new technologies and with the historic payments gone the teams will be on a fairer playing field for development.

Problem with that is...this is something Ferrari wont want to easily give up, and this will most certainly result in a threat to leave the sport, others who use it too could also be upset. Like McLaren for example. Good post by the way.

No but as it sounds like, Liberty Media basically wants to say "**** 'em. Why the hell should they get $90M just for being in F1? No no no, let's take that away." Hehehe I love it.

Who else besides McLaren and Williams would this affect? Mercedes too even though they took decades off from racing?

None, however once the new concorde agreement is up, all the highly biased top team payments will also likely go as well, making it much more sustainable for the lower teams, we could see a long term equalisation of teams out of this.

Because Liberty have also put forward an idea whereby the teams would be able to purchase a stake in the sport. If it goes through, it would secure the long-term futures of any team who bought in - but the historical payments that you're talking about are incompatible with it. They can't have both.

That doesn't matter, read the current agreement, they're still recognized as their original or continuation of. RBR also get a stake due to championships won. If you remember Renault also were suppose to finally get a stake in the agreement though small for their historical contribution.

Here is an old break down I'll see if I can find a new one.

EDIT: Here is a more up to date one, and easier to follow

CCB and LST and Other are all different values of historical reference.

Wow, just wow!

I knew these payments existed but this is the first time I've seen the numbers involved.
No wonder the smaller teams are upset.

Finally, I could be a Motorsport-mad, Bill Gates fortune, F1 fanatic and yet why would I rescue Manor from collapse when I'm up against such a biased payment scheme?
You'd have to be completely bonkers :dopey:

Because of the other half of the story that you didn't get from my post. And that's the amount of money you make from commercialism due to being part of the sport, hence why manufactures still play ball

No, I'm in the same boat as you.

The short dorsal box fins aren't that cool or appealing, there were more unique designs from them, and I think Toyota was the first to actually do something nice with it.

Williams also had one of the better ones I think
