2017 F1 Constructor technical info/developmentFormula 1

No, because as the drivers say all the time, they realize they're putting the lives into the hands of fate or chance or whatever. They signed up to do a dangerous job for sport or entertainment and if they die, while a great tragedy, a also sobering reminder of the nature.

Generally it's not the drivers who sue but the families, as in Bianchi's case. I'd race in F1 tomorrow if they asked me, and risk be damned. So would you :)

Meanwhile, McLaren have announced that they will drop the MP4 prefix from their chassis name following Ron Dennis' departure from the team and Zak Brown's shake-up of their identity. The 2017 car will be known as the McLaren MCL32.

Be nice if it just took the initials of the Founder instead.

McLaren as we know it now is really Ron's baby. Pre 1980 Mclaren had been unsuccessful for many seasons. Dennis and his team had developed some massive technical innovations that he wanted to bring to F1, namely the carbonfibre chassis, and was looking to Marlboro (who were sponsoring his F2 team) to finance it. Marlboro wanted to stick with the Marlboro-Mclaren association so helped him buy the team from Teddy Meyer who wanted out anyway. Post 1980 Mclaren was really Project Four rebranded with a established name.

It's not a million miles from what's happened over the past few seasons. Mclaren dropping down the tables so out with the old and in with the new. Makes sense to change the naming conventions at this point.

That's not how it works, Bruce was successful in his own right, and the creator of the team that lives on today. All Dennis did was expand that to road cars, and other forms of racing. Even though Bruce was a F1 winner and sports car winner too, and had established the team with this.

MCL is out with the old and in with new, but not because of the downturn they've seen, rather just because the old era has left, and a new one is theoretically starting.

@TenEightyOne Yes it did stand for that but when Marlboro left McLaren and primarily stuck with Ferrari, the name became Mclaren Project 4. Project 4 standing for the team Dennis created, and McLaren obviously for the team but the distinction that these were no longer cars funded by Marlboro. That is why the MP4 designation was kept so long.

Vettel has suffered a "heavy" crash in tyre testing but is reportedly "okay". He was driving a 2015 car with 2017-simulated downforce. BBC.

Hydro planing? :scared:

Further to that;

BBC
Vettel's crash was on his first lap out of the pits after a break for lunch. The weather was cold - the temperature was 4C - and it has been suggested that a lack of temperature in the tyres could well have been a contributing factor.

F1 tyres have to be at the right temperature to operate effectively and the temperature in Maranello on Thursday was in the region of 10C cooler than F1 cars would ever normally encounter at even the coolest Grand Prix.

The Pirelli spokesman also said that one of the technologies the company was trying that day were tyres that operate without the use of the heating blankets that have been used in F1 for many years to ensure they are at close to operating temperature as possible when they leave the pits.

4C? Lucky buggers, it's worse than that here :D

I would love for the Orange to be true

Sauber will start work on their 2018 car pretty early, it's sad to hear this when the 2017 car hasn't even been revealed. At least that's what Zander says after they see if the direction of the 2017 car will work the way they want to. I hope with his expertise back at Sauber they'll at least get some speed.

I don't think they have much of a choice. They only way they're going to regain lost ground is to try and get a head start.
