2017 F1 Constructor technical info/developmentFormula 1

I doubt this is reliable in the slightest as I haven't seen it anywhere else, but Fox Sports News Australia is reporting that McLaren has split from Honda, and will use Mercedes engines in 2018.

Again, highly doubt it is true as I haven't seen it pop up anywhere else, but stranger things have happened.

"fake news"
I wouldn't call it fake news. To me, fake news is news that you don't like, so you try and discredit the source so that people are less likely to believe it. This seems more like overly-enthusiastic reporting.

I've only see it on the TV as of now, haven't seen an article pop up yet on their site, so I'm taking it as a bit of "fake news" for now.

EDIT: Sky F1 is also reporting that McLaren has 'divorced' from Honda.

Sky are reporting that Mike Gascoyne (aka The Pit Bull, a well-connected ex-technical-boss) is telling them that it's a done deal. I suspect he's right, but then the writing's been on the wall for some time. Right now it remains a very credible rumour (the best sort), I wonder when we'll get proper news if indeed it's been done?

I think this'll be the the best indicator:
If Fernando Alonso is spotted with a huge smile on his face this afternoon, we'll know...

Force India are considering changing their name. Again:

Mallya's logic is that the team has developed well on the technical side of things, which makes them attractive to potential sponsors - but they haven't had much success securing them, particularly from India. Mallya feels that a more "international" name might help attract more investment. It has been noted that when you consider the budget spent-to-points earned ratio, they're the best-performing team, so maybe Mallya has a point.

Cool, I think finally Mallya's actions are catching up with him and that's why they don't get nearly the amount of sponsors and tech deals you'd expect from a group that clearly would be challenging for wins if it had the ability.

I wouldn't be so sure about that - Mercedes were boasting that their Canada result was down to ten straight days of working 24/7. Nobody can compete with that.

That's quite likely true in an Indian context.

Well... they can if they work 11 straight days 24/7... or at least they have the potential to? :)

Speaking of Sauber, motorsport-total.com is reporting that team boss Monisha Kaltenborn has been fired.

EDIT: Rumor is this is one of the first signs of Honda getting ready to buy the team. We'll see.

Other rumours say that Longbow is furious that she's signed for Honda engines and that they want to stay with Mercedes Ferrari for fairly obvious reasons. The official line just says that they disagree with the direction in which to take the team. Presumably they want to go up the points rather than down.

Stay with Ferrari, right?
