I doubt it'll happen anyway, since that's another component that would add to the cost of building a car, and another thing that would have to be monitored to make sure it was actually being used, and goes against NASCAR's current cost-cutting mantra.

I don't really see the five-lug wheels going away anytime soon either, because NASCAR's been using those wheels since at least the '70s and probably have a lifetime supplier contract with the manufacturer. Not to mention it's one of the very few things that still holds any direct similarity to road cars, which they're still trying to at least maintain the illusion of.
Or they could just tie the speed limiter to the ECU which I'm sure every series that has them does. That said, I believe it will make the racing better since the drivers don't have to worry about pit road speed limit.

NASCAR México trucks!

they're 6 cylinder powered.

So Kyle Busch won again in dominating fashion. Leading stage 1, getting a speeding penalty under caution, leading stage 2, and then winning the race.

Cue the bringing of torches and pitchforks because they emasculated trucks

Hope they aren't turbo, certain people might have a stroke ;) :p

They could, but knowing NASCAR's paranoia about electronics and love of exclusive contracts, they'd probably make it some proprietary add-on dongle that is only built in one specific factory and issued to each team at the start of each year. And then spin it as a cost-cutting measure, of course.

(I'm only being partially serious, by the way.)

I've never heard that many kids sing the national anthem out of sync in my life. But goodness that was adorable :)

Looked like Dillon blew a left rear tire and Jeffrey Earnhardt just got the short end of the stick when Dillon's car spun up the track.

Matt Kenseth leads at the end of Stage 2.
And promptly gets busted for speeding.
If Erik Jones wins tonight, Matt goes to 17th in the standings, currently 20 points behind McMurray for 16th. The 3rd to 24th place freefall in overtime last week and this speeding penalty tonight might be what keeps him out if he doesn't make it in.

The outside lane on restarts has been remarkably faster. I think the driver restarting in 8th has passed the person restarting in 3rd in at least half of the restarts tonight. I would hate to restart late in 2nd or 3rd.

I don't think Jones would have got there even if he wasn't impeded by lapped traffic. He did have a hell of an effort to try and chase down Kyle Busch, though.

His attitude is rough, and he doesn't make a whole lot of friends, but dammit, he can drive the wheels off of just about anything, and that's why I'm a fan.

He finished second at ROC Miami to Sebastian Vettel nonetheless.

So Kyle has swept Bristol again and the crowd is booing. Better get mah bucket:

Forgot to post this last week, but thought this was rather interesting:

Clickbait-ish name aside, interesting stuff on the cost of running a team as well as the craptastic TV Package and the poor prize pool. I know some of you can't stand Start-and-parks but when its literally the only way you can afford to even run a Truck full time as is the case with Joe for his son, what else can you do? Keep in mind a team owned by a Cup driver and getting Manufacterer support AND Cup support just announced they are shutting down (and said video features the sole remaining one). And this is just in Trucks mind you..

Also:

And finally, in rather interesting news, Richard Childress Racing Partners with KCMG for 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series Race

Perhaps if NASCAR's cost cutting was even remotely as successful as that of BTCC for instance, the S&P epidemic would fix itself eventually.

Though I thought they are already past the worst phase, where about 5 of the starters in every Cup and Busch race were there to park.

I was surprised to see Gary at Watkins Glen for the Cup race. He finished 31st, right after Boris. Jimmy Johnson finished 29th, just saying.

EDIT Just wanted to add that I'm looking forward to see how Austin Cindric does. Matt Bell did not do so well at Mid Ohio.

Was BKR getting Ford support? IIRC they cut support to the Truck series in 2009. Also there is a rumor that BKR will be transitioning into producing spec engines for the series in the future. I don't have a link to the source so take it with a grain of salt.

They did at first, which ended up reducing the amount of Ford trucks (though Roush leaving already made a huge dent). After Penske Switched to Ford in 2013, Ford came back to support BKR (Remember that Ford even made a new Truck for the new rules alongside the new Silverado and Tundra).
