So I think its safe to say that RPM is no more now that this has surfaced.

According to Jayski they are switching to Chevrolet and aligning with RCR. As much as I want Bubba to get the ride, a part of me wants to see Ty in the #43 just to see the internet's reaction of Dillon's occupying the two most historic numbers in NASCAR.

Uh. Uh oh.

Or...Bubba shows up in a Chevy, finally gets good equipment, and contends for the title and race wins, thus pissing off "those" fans once and for all.:lol::odd:

but seriously though, I hope this doesn't mean that door is closing since RP really seems to like him and he is likely their best shot at a title IMO. However, I'm starting to think he might have a shot at a possible SHR ride

Can this actually happen, pretty please? The reactions would be priceless.

Xfinity is qualifying in the rain, should be interesting.

Edit: They're taking forever to start and the track is dry now.

This race would have been a fitting race to pair a MMA bout with since the drivers are beating the hell out of their cars on track.

The push to go from regional sport in the southeast to legitimate national interest was great, back when the corporate money was flowing in at crazy high rates. Now that the influx of money has slowed to a crawl, the cost of going from the race shop in Charlotte to the race tracks in Texas, Phoenix, and California is substantially more expensive than heading over to race at North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, and Atlanta. Obviously, they are never going back to old dilapidated facilities or reducing the number of races, so NASCAR and the teams are going to have to think about other ways to cut costs. At some point, it will become about the survival of the sport.

If I were driving, I'd probably do that. I am the same person that thinks the best way to secure 2 liter bottles of soda is to put seatbelts on them as if they were small children.

Surprised nobody has posted this yet because the news in a couple hours old. Chase Elliott will drive the 9 car for Hendrick next season and Byron to the 24. I'm assuming they are retiring the #5 and the Hendrick lineup will be the 9, 24, 48 and 88.

Bowman is gonna drive the 88 I do believe.

I can see it now, Chase Elliott wins 9 races back in the 9 car, eliminated in first round, still wins all the bonus money. [/sarcasm]

It's not active at Cup level, I'm not sure Chase is too worried about it. I'll be honest though, I think they should change the 88 too. That can't be the 5, 25, or 50, I think 84 would be too obvious, Universal probably still has rights on 46, 44 is open but seems to be the designated retirement number anymore, 1 is asking to get beat down...

Interesting change there, wonder what motivated the number swap.

That and I believe Chip Ganassi has that number already.

I wanna say that Axalta would rather be with Byron and/or on the #24. I don't think Axalta cares that much for Bowman

Although come on, Elliott in the 94! That way you only have to cover the 2 :sly:

Now, if only we could get the kid in a Ford.

46 miiiggghhhttttttt be opened up now since HScott ran it a few years ago. That said, RH would have to re-acquire it all over again. Pretty sure RH also had the rights to 44 and 84 at one point back in the 5 car team days

My guess is Hendrick and Chase wanted it last year when he took over the ride but NASCAR, for reasons known only to themselves, only cleared it right now. Kinda like how TS values his drivers' input on numbers.

Pretty sure Axalta are half of the reason why Bowman got the ride in the first place. I will also add this; my guess is after 2018 there could be more team number changes depending on how Mr. H wants to market his drivers
