My thoughts:

I think David Ragan could have won if he didn't try to block on the high side. Nevertheless, he had a great finish. Part of me was hoping that Paul Menard would win just to see how Jr. Nation would have reacted.

A lot of guys had some good runs last night (Brendan Gaughan, David Ragan, Ryan Newman, Chris Buescher, Corey Lajoie, among others)

And for the love of Christ, if NASCAR can't use the OT line right, they shouldn't have overtime period. They should really go back to ending the race at its scheduled distance, even if it has to end under caution.

Watching a bit of the truck race from Kentucky tonight. Noticed something that caught my attention. Norm Benning and BJ McLeod both are out of the race, and we've run less than 15 laps. It's just so puzzling, and it even makes me feel angry, that these trucks cost a million dollars a year to run, and we have these guys going out there, taking the green flag, and parking it and heading home.

Surely there isn't a profit from being a start-&-park in such a low series, and you'd need to factor in travel costs, and the simple logistics of running a race team.

The way I see it, if you put everything in to go run two laps of a race then head straight home, you shouldn't be going to the track period.

(Bear in mind, they could have simply had mechanical issues.)

Does Truck Series have the same Charter system as the Cup Series? They might have to at least 'run' the race to able to keep their team licence.

Quite a different example, but in V8 Supercars, teams have to buy Racing Entitlement Contracts in order to be able to run in the main series. Part of that contract means you have to run every round of the series, or else they will be ones quite heavily. Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport are very low team who have been struggling to even have a driver ready for some events this year, but instead of sitting out a round, they have to arrive in order to not be given a fine. It might be the same for Start and Park teams in NASCAR.

Furniture Row and Truex just put on a clinic tonight. They were absolutely untouchable for the entire race.

I knew Truex's car was far and above the rest of the field when Blaney took 5-6 laps to unlap himself from 10 car lengths behind with four tires that were 30+ laps newer. That was impressive.

Remember when Gibbs and FRR formed an alliance a few years back, that ended up helping the #78?

They know that works both ways, right?

What does he want? An IndyCar?

I think he wants them to have a car that isn't as aero dependent as the current one. He said he was caught into that wreck because of the air and the way the car reacted to it.

Get these cars up off of the ground a little bit. Put more power back in them.
Make them hard to turn in all conditions, not glued to the track with downforce, but only when in clean air.

If the drivers had to fight the cars and the tracks, instead of the air, they would be more fun to watch.

Maybe I'm just numb to it, but hasn't aero been an issue since the gen 4 cars?

Just dawned on me that Bubba Wallace finished 11th. That's a really good run for him given his role as a relief driver and his limited experience in Cup having never driven a cup car until his relief stint this year.

He's picking up Cup racing really well. Hopefully this brings him some exposure to sponsors.

I just read what Kes said...is he delusional, or naive? "Build a car the sport deserves" reeks of "I can't take advantage of the field not being up to our level" to me...actually come to think of it, this car has existed for five years now so it's not a surprise that the field has caught up to the big dogs.

That said, after this stage BS I can see NASCAR mandating a new car so the power teams can be dominant again.

Speaking of stages, I had a horrible dream last night where NASCAR broke races into four stages, with a 20-30 minute halftime break at "crown jewel" events such as Daytona, Charlotte, Darlington, and Homestead, AND a concert performance by whoever the hot pop artist of the day is.

And this would also apply to the Xfinity and Truck series, only the "mid-race concerts" would happen at Daytona and Homestead, because reasons.

You want to know what's sad?

I can see Brian France and the "fan council" enacting something like this next year, and I'm not even kidding.

As far as Bubba Wallace, I hope that he gets a ride with someone this year. He didn't do too bad in the races he ran this season.

Considering how fast some championships/disciplines go through regs and cars (WRC/F1/LMP1/Touring Cars) it wouldn't be all that surprising to be honest, especially when considering the basic chassis of the car is pretty much the same as what's been used since 2007's CoT isn't it? Body has changed dramatically but otherwise its somewhat similar. But at any rate, foot in mouth man is just being a whiny **** and complaining about what is the least of Nascrap's problems right now...their fundamental screwing up of motorsports and turning into a God forsaken abomination that makes (no offense to GRC/WRX, its supposed to be off the wall and I do like watching it for 600hp hatches  ) rally cross look like Formula 1.

That's nightmare fuel. :scared:

The only reason I can't see this happening is because the Formula 1 race at CotA has a concert attached to it as part of the race weekend, and Bruton Smith hates both CotA and F1 so he wouldn't want to copy anything they do, even if it would actually be profitable or popular.

I disagree. Bruton Smith loves money more than he hates F1 and CotA combined.

...yeah, you're not wrong. And now that I think of it, it'd probably be something done purely at the track owners' decision, kinda like those MMA fights everyone thought NASCAR was involved with because of Monster's overzealous cross-promoting.
