As much as his dad's fans and most of his fans would probably love to see it, I just don't see him actually doing it. He's never shown any interest in using his father's image to promote himself. He doesn't fit the overly-aggressive image of The Intimidator, and he doesn't pretend to. He could have easily cashed in on millions of dollars in merchandise sales had he decided to go to RCR and just drive a black #3 car for a few years, but he didn't. I respect him a lot for resisting that temptation. Driving the #3 Wrangler car once in the Daytona Nationwide race a few years ago is about the closest he's ever come to doing it, and I honestly believe he did that more for the fans than he did for himself.

This. Its why I hated how people make such an big deal about him not having anywhere the accomplishments his dad has or driving like him, the fans never want him to be himself when they should get the hell out of their bubble and finally realize he'll never be Dale Earnhardt.

Let's not take anything from the fact that he has I think 36 or around that number wins. He's probably one of the best to have never won a championship in that regard.

Jr. has 26 wins, which is seventh amoung active drivers behind: Johnson, Kyle Busch and Kenseth who are tied, Harvick, Hamlin, and Kurt Busch. Edwards is also just ahead of Jr., but he's no longer active.

Looking through the list of active drivers with wins, it's pretty shocking seeing as how few actually have even more than a few wins. One thing that I have to commend Keselowski and Logano on, they've gotten a lot in a very short amount of time. I hate both of them, but damn, that's impressive.

Thank you, I never understood why people are looking for his dad in him. As both a massive Junior fan as many of your regulars here know and as a massive Senior fan growing up and watching him from the early 90s on, I never like people looking for Sr. II in Junior. And that's why I'm proud to be a fan of his, he'll be remembered easily as one of the most likable, popular, and at times out spoken drivers of NASCAR with a fair amount to his credentials. Sure he may have not go the Cup championship, but some other well known drivers never did either and that's fine, not everyone can win the top spot but they can do other things to be remembered by the fans and the sport.

He doesn't need to drive a car with his dad's scheme as a send off that is his, not his dads. So I hope it's a scheme that is either the Budwieser or something else with connected to his name.

You know what's interesting about that fact, is that of all those drivers listed only one other doesn't have a Championship to their name like Junior. So that to me shows just how competitive he was in the sport and that alone is a pretty great achievement.

I'd give him a second behind Mark Martin but ya, very consistent driver. Polar opposite of his dad who honestly had a checkers or wreckers attitude.

For statistics sake, the only non championship drivers with more wins than him are Junior Johnson, Mark Martin, Fireball Roberts, Denny Hamlin, and Carl Edwards

I forgot about Mark Martin. I agree with that then.

That's something different. He likes Aric, but I can't recall a time he said that he'd put them in the car again...actually, I can't think of a time he's said anything about a driver not under contract with him that was positive.

On the flip side, Parker Kligermann just finished explaining the special aero package for the Xfinity Indy race...More downforce, more drag, and a restrictor plate. Analyst are predicting "exciting side-by-side" action, I sense a 100 lap train is imminent.

Still looks to be the usual NAPCAR Indiacrapolis parade at the brickyard but the differing aero philosophies of low drag vs hi drag combined with the plate are at least making it sort of interesting I guess.

That was single handedly the craziest set of pit stops I've ever seen on pit road.

The 7 just has had an absolute disaster of a pit stop on all fronts.
And the commentary crew won't shut up about it. I forgot the guy's name (not Burton) but good god almighty shut the **** up about YOUR pit strategy and how EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG. If you think that strongly about it, get back on the damn box!

I'm done with commentary, it's no better than Fox. Watching the race muted now.

Not watching the race live, but someone uploaded the final laps of stage 2 with the Justin Algiers Absolutley awful pitstop.

I don't know why NBC didn't put Dale Jarrett in the booth instead of Jeff Burton, maybe 2018 will see that change.

Steve Letarte is a complete blithering idiot. All he ever says is garbage like; everything NASCAR does is right, everything other crew chiefs do is wrong, and he reiterates things too often. How in God's name did Jeff Gordon and Jr. deal with him?

He was a crew chief. The driver, those two especially, outranks the crew chief 9 times out of 10. At least Larry Mac, who does a lot of the same thing, isn't overly irritating.

Looks a bit damp at the Brickyaad.

Bringing back the Jr. conversation for a minute. While he's obviously going to be remembered as Sr.'s son and his restrictor plate success, I think his biggest legacy to the sport (and potentially other forms of motorsport as well) will be concussion awareness. Prior to him sitting out in '12, very few people were even talking about concussions in motorsports. Before that, drivers sitting out races due to a concussion in NASCAR was literally unheard of. But I think last year really brought the issue to the motorsports world after he had to miss half the season because of recurring symptoms. I think that it lead to a shift in the culture of motorsports as a whole since more drivers in other forms of motorsport have made the decision to sit out upon suffering concussions after he did. Now I can't say for sure if others sat out to follow his lead or did so to protect themselves regardless of what Jr. did, but but his incident lead to a 180 on both concussion awareness and treatment after he came out and announced his concussion problems. I think that, if he was to look back at his career 20 years later, it'll be his contribution to making motorsports safer via increasing concussion awareness that he will be the most proud of.

Now on to the future of the 88. As we all know, Bowman is the guy that will replace Jr. He earned that ride after Jr. initially recommended him, and his results and sponsor interaction earned Mr H's approval. Case in point: This article here.

Crowd looks sort of okay given how god awful Cup races are at Indy.

Out of all people they can get to give the command to start the engines, they have Tony George do it. 👎

Jr. clearly is frustrated with today's result.

Driver cam was really well timed there when Kurt Busch took evasive action in that melee.

Looked to me like Truex clipped the curb and then clipped Kyle Busch as Kyle tried to clear him into turn 1.
