I don't think I've ever been so scared watching an accident live. Sandown honestly need to held liable for theses accidents now. In 2017 a circuit shouldn't have such short runoff areas. It's honestly ridiculous.

They keep saying that the barrier did its job, but the barrier made the accident as bad as it was. The tyre barrier cause the rear of the car to catch and the momentum to carry further down. A SAFER barrier would cause the momentum and energy to dissipate and definitely wouldn't have caused the car to flip.

Problem with tire barriers and why I don't understand their continued use compared to a safer barrier, is a tire doesn't dissipate the load from the initial wreck, coils it like a spring and then shoots it back into the car. So you have this hit slowing down the car based on the energy and momentum, but then it is "oscillated" back again. Because the fencing like a spring wants is trying to return to its position before the wreck.

Having the tyre wall supported by a Armco barrier directly behind the wall strengthens the spring effect that you're talking about as well. I've thought about having layers of unsupported tyre barriers before the main wall, as the car would go though first tyre barrier, losing a lot of speed and energy, before hitting the main wall. An example of the unsupported tyre barriers that I'm talking about, are the tyre barriers you see in the run off of the Mulsanne Chicanes at Le Mans.

Holy crap! I've just seen the Hazelwood accident and, like everyone here has said, thankfully he's ok.

That was friggin HUGE!

Awesome S2 qualy. Nissans P3,4,5. Hazelwood P2

Simona cops a 2 place grid spot for holding up Whindup.

The #97 cops 2 grid spots.

Webbhead receives a $15000 fine for the incident.

Yeah that was a tight qualifying. Was hoping Hazlewood would stay P1 but it was a great lap by De Pasquale. The Nissans are on it too.

Altimas 1,2,3.:eek: MWM deserve a few main game RECs.
Forget it. They messed that up.:(

Edit: Whew! Need a breather like Murphy.
Good 1,2. Fulwood messed that up. Could have been a 1,2,3.

Wait so how did Douglas do that to himself, when he has someone ramming him from behind through that entire transgression to the point where he had no choice but to spin the car in front of him? Man the VASC commentary crew is a funny group.
