All this hype about Kubica returning to F1, and he gets to drive a car 5 seconds off the pace.

What a shame. Might as well borrow a TS050 from Toyota...

It's just sad what Williams has become. Force India has done better with a smaller budget and the same Merc engine.

I think the remarkable thing about Williams and McLaren is that we see powerhouses drop off the grid for a couple years or relatively short spans in other sports but they almost inevitably come back to proper form. I think we could be seeing the genuine death of some major names in F1. I mean, if Williams continues to be garbage for another 5-6-10 years. At what point do they sell, or just pull the plug? Do they just loiter until some big other team uses them to buy in? (i.e. Audi comes along and just buys Williams to use the name and produces an entirely new car etc.)

When was the last time Williams changed full ownership or backing?

Unfortunately I doubt it. They're driving so hard and still more than 4 seconds behind the nearest car. Qualifying will definitely show the full potential but I don't see them improving much. It's a real shame.

One thing that may be getting in their way is their firm stand on never becoming a junior team to one of the bigger teams. I think that may be the only thing that keeps them going for a little while. Otherwise I think it's more honorable to close up shop and enjoy the money the Williams estate has left. The team members will surely find jobs somewhere else in motorsport right?

Looking forward to this session. Any one of 12 cars can be the non-RBR/Ferrari/Mercedes but I expect Renault and Haas to fill those spots and the three rookies to miss out on Q2 with Giovinazzi and Kubica.

I’ve got a bit of bias, but aesthetically, Albert Park is there as one of the nicest circuits. For a street circuit, it as very classic Grand Prix circuit feel.

So Gasly said to (Dutch) reporter: "We thought one run would be enough to be safe in Q1. My gap with Max was just 0,150. We did not expect the others to be so fast". Wrong strategy apperently
