After watching Neymar's penalty against Lyon in Ligue 1, it clearly depends on the team/player that suffers the foul. Neymar literaly fouled the defender, and got a penalty.

Karma for not giving the penalty for the Zouma challenge.
I think the decision was correct in the Zouma challenge, so no instant Karma there for me. Ronaldo is angled about 45 degrees, diving forward, when he is actually touched by Zouma. Just run through and let the defender make the mistake, kick you, and then go down. No need to 'anticipate' anything. Don't get me wrong, I have seen many similar given, but it didn't mean they were correct either.
The challenge by Coufal is close but Ronaldo jumps, both feet off the ground, into the defender. Again, just run normally, and will happen will happen. If it had been given, I doubt it would have been changed, but it seems the Ref saw it the same as me.
Oh, and the Brighton penalty should not have been given either imho. Maupay is holding the defender's arm, hindering from jumping, and if you are trying to jump, you use your arms as leverage, and if one arm is held, the other will go higher. But even so, Maupay is fouling the defender before the ball gets a chance to touch any arm.
After VAR being OK for the first few weeks, and few contentious decisions, this weekend more than made up for it.
I think Cresswell catching him in the box should have been a penalty.
