I’m actually anxious to hear how this affects the current circuit layout. The current layout is iconic, it has so much character and is easily one of my favourite race tracks. It would be a shame to lose that.
Agreed.

Hopefully they'll just shorten it for the V8 race. I don't think it would be hard to do, but from looking at the track map they may not change the parklands end back.

Phillip Island is gone for MotoGP, bring on the Adelaide (revised) Street Circuit.
I'm only super casual with MotoGP but this seems like a bad idea. 😅

Was hoping The Bend would have got it. Think its better suited to bikes.

I'm full on into bikes in every form and I think it's flat out crazy. How the **** are they gonna make it not a concrete canyon :confused::confused:

I wouldn't have minded The Bend, although I think there's a couple of spots on that track that could be a bit unsafe (turn 1 & the final turn). I've been over to Phillip Island several times for MotoGP and a couple of times for the WSB Championship so TB would be a walk in the park (or a roll in the park in my case :P;)👨‍🦽‍➡️).

Here’s a better look at the new track layout. :(

Salt in the wound after yesterday's announced, not only is the Grand Prix gone from Phillip Island, Adelaide is getting completely affected too.

Look at the map, it looks they're getting rid entirely of the current final sector basically, im not just stating the obvious by looking at the highlighted layout, the infield of the permanent section has been completely reconfigured. You can somewhat still see the final corner and beginning of the current day pit straight, but nothing else is the same.

Can only assume that the new pit first and last sector will be the new V8 circuit as well, I can't see them getting rid of turn 8 though.

Yeah, not cool when riders usually slide off their bikes a couple hundred feet. That’s going to be more like Isle of Man.

Has there never been motorcycle street circuits in Australia?
We had motorcycle racing at Mt. Panorama back in the ‘80s. I’m not aware of any road racing scene in Australia though.

It’s not so much the street circuit aspect, they will likely make it a safe experience. But in order to do that, any character the circuit currently has will be paved over or removed.

It’s all but confirmed that Supercars will at least use the new pit building and new Victoria Park complex, given both events will be 2 weeks apart. I think it’s likely they will run the same circuit as MotoGP, but I’m coping hard right now.

There's two I know of, apart from Mt. Panorama that @Cap'n Jack already mentioned, in South Australia. Lobethal Street Circuit and Victor Harbour Street Circuit, but if I remember correctly they were both last used for racing in the 1930's, and both revived again for demonstration events in the 80's or maybe 90's for Victor. The Lobethal events in the 80's were for classic bikes (a few of my friends entered their bikes in this) and the Victor one had a section of it near Port Elliot used for 1/8th mile 'demonstration' drag racing (which another friend of mine won on his Ducati track bike).

There maybe others but I'm only familiar with my home state ones.

We obviously knew it coming into this year. Boy though is it going to be a long season for non Blue Oval fans. Hell, dare say it'll be a long season for anyone not named Feeney. 😅 Great job from Andre to finish 8th. The Supra (well, at least his anyway) doesn't seem miles away from the top pack. Good signs.

Personal grievance. Tander was great on commentary. Chad was okay, think he's way better suited to pitlane duties but whatever. Just thought it was weird that we didn't hear too much from any drivers outside of the top three*. Sure they did Waters and Brown but would have been nice to hear from a Toyota driver or a rookie or two.

*Apologies if they did I just missed it. Was switching back and fourth from the F1 testing after the race finished.

First thing that jumped out at me was the new graphics package that moved away from the traditional car number with blue or red background to the car sponsor logo instead. Reason? Too much blue at the top I think. I didn't like it first but I didn't mind it quite so much after getting used to it a bit.

I thought it was easier when you could count out half the field by colour when searching for a particular driver when everything changes so quickly in qualifying.

I agree with your grievances and your comment on the Toyota (Andre too). They've got a lot to learn, hopefully it happens quickly... or at least before the endurance rounds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Then there was the first day of the race meet graphics package disaster that's plagued Supercars for as long as I can remember. Completely missing timing, wrong sector colours, graphics crossing over each other then fading out, and no start lights displayed was not good enough when we have to pay to watch. 4K upgrade was great though. I doubt Foxtel Go will have it so it'll be crappy old 1080p on my bar TV's. :irked:

Edit: I still dislike the look of the Supra, but in the dark, with Heimgartner's livery, the other cars headlights shining at me, and with my eyes half closed it kinda, sorta, almost looked okay. I just can't get that Blobfish image out of my head, and it's just too big for that car (not quite as bad as the Mutantstang, but not far off).

I'm old, sue me! :sly:

To be honest, I’m struggling hard with combination of the name abbreviations, sponsor logos on the totem pole and the raft of new drivers on the grid. But I think it’s just a me issue.

Not the most action packed race yesterday, still enjoyable with the varying tyre strategies. Feeney/Triple 8 showed BRT they still have a lot to learn, but great showing by the team and drivers.

Also I’m just dying for Jobe Stewart to do something so I can use some Arrested Development references.

We'll see how the track holds up with the Super 2s before quali starts. I have an ill feeling the rest of the weekend will be held on the shorter layout.

I was having the same problem. So used to finding positions on the totem thru colours and numbers. It's going to take some adjusting to. I'm on the fence about it currently.

I do like the look of the Supras. But Macca's car is especially bad for that with the white front. It doesn't look great from that angle. lol

Can’t tell if it’s my TV or my eyes lol, is Ryan Woods car black and red or black and orange?

Feel like the Walkinshaw cars need a highlight of colour around about the headlights to pronounce the details of the front end a little more. The whole front being black, with the placement of the NGK logos on the front nose and headlights, it’s all a bit vague looking.

From all other angles the Supras look great though.

Edit: The Penrite cars look absolute class, incredible its taken 10 years of Penrite sponsored cars for them to finally go with the simple Black and Gold.

That #3 does look like a championship winning car.

Edit: Tricky conditions now. Oof.

Got lucky with the weather. A second row start for Wood is a heck of achievement still. Hopefully he gets a better start than last night though.

Yeah, that's the real criticism I have with the Walkinshaw liveries. They do need something on or around the headlights just for some contrast.

Wild opening laps. What is it with Supra drivers going for the outside line? Geez.
Edit: Mostert made out real good with that stop.
Edit: That was cool. I was entertained by that race.

Very fun race. A lot of good, hard racing all round. De Pasquale drove perfectly, happy to see there’s some hope for the Chevrolet corner of the grid.

Hopefully he gets a better start than last night though.
Narrator: He did not. Still great result to finish 7th. Three Supra's in the top 12 ain't bad in the slightest. Shame about Andre's engine though.

And yes. Much better race than the first one. Great drive from Anton. Honestly didn't think GM would get a win this year.
