And as far as the damage, collisions thing I am for damage & collisions being on,IMO Penalties on is a must, too many tracks where cutting would be a huge advantage.

I think that drivers who cut corners on purpose should be penalized, but not by the feature in the game. I know it is hard to police all the drivers on every race, but we can police each other. There is a big chance that cutting corner might slow down you more than what it will help to make a better time. I agree that in a handful of tracks (like Monza, Monaco, etc.) penalties should be on. It is hard to be consistent cutting corners without crashing. If I see a driver cutting corner on purpose, I should bring it up to the community. If proven guilty, that driver should be penalized with a minimum of 25 secs. (or more) added to their race time.

Thoughts,

I like that idea and not just because we're on the same team. :dopey:

Most of the time if I am racking up penalty seconds, I'm usually not gaining any sort of advantage, it's me screwing up. Also I can't think of any specifics now, but there are corners with very conservative ' invisible penalty' barriers, where either it's a corner that is normally cut more aggressively in real racing, or for example on Istanbul if you take one of the corners wide, it sometimes randomly adds penalty time, even though you didn't cut anything.

I really wish there was some sort of chat in the race, then it'd make policing much easier.

My stance is quite simple. Damage on, but Collisions off. I'm also for mechanical failure to be on, as well penalties for cutting chicanes.

I like the difficulty to be near the highest, in all other aspects of the settings. Its just the collisions, which I feel add less then they take away.

I'll have fun in here regardless. Perhaps the first practice race was a good lesson in how we should conduct the first lap. Good idea to give more space, passing will be far more difficult, with collisions on. Just my opinion.

Well, I sat on the start line in a daze, let Sump & someone else shoot by me at the start & then ran into the back of Sump a couple of seconds later. :ouch: I think everyone was just a bit "on edge" at the start! ;)

That is what it is really all about.

This was the first practice run and a lot of things went on , good and bad. I personally do not know the experience of the drivers involved in playing this particular game , noobs ? , somewhat experienced ? , a lot of experience ? , don't now for sure , but we do really have to keep some driving factors involved , it's like playing GT5P , PRACTICE , PRACTICE , PRACTICE , it will come , you can only get better , I am 100 %, sure bad things are going to happen to take you out of a given race, but there is always the next race to try to re-deem yourself, remember you do have a team mate that can pick you up.Lets give it a few more rounds and play it by ear just to see what happens.

We need PAL input as well , we need to be on the same page here with this.

Thanks biggles!:dunce: jk. :) Yeah I've been practicing starting in the middle of the grid on hard with all AI, and just keep restarting after the 3 or 4th corner to get used to the starts.

Anyway, I think I read last page, you can't run F1:CE with damage on but collisions off.

How do those lobbies work, can the host restart races. Because practicing against the AI has no lag. So maybe before the practice races we can run some quick starts before the race?

I read a post in here about the pit stop thing. Here's a hint to help you get quicker at these. My avg. pitstop is in the mid to high 7's,sometimes into the 8's .

Go set up a race online and PIT IN ON EVERY SINGLE LAP ,who cares if you win or lose , it's pit practice , it will help in the aspect of knowing where to enter pit lane, because some tracks it can be confusing to find pit entrance and exiting pit lane,if not careful it will give you a penalty for going over the white line on the exit side.

Just some food for thought.

Well I thought the PAL race went quite well, albeit that there was only 4 players. There was a small incident, but I believe thats been sorted now and we've all agreed to give plenty of space, so I see no reason to switch off collisions in the PAL tournament anyway.
I think racing is so much better with collisions on, for example LewyOs passed me mid-race but I was on average quicker each lap (hope that doest sound boastful), but I couldnt get passed him because of the chance of a collision, it made the race far better for me and him, I'm sure.

Also you can hit multiple buttons at once, and the order of the buttons is the same everytime. I got a 7.4 something last night. Too bad I was too far behind. :ouch:

not always , it depends on if the pit crew comes at your car from the left or right side , then the button sequence is changed just a bit,but yes ,I do hit buttons at the same time as you do , I think my best has been a 6.9xxx , (totally insane) , but not 100 % consistant

You can press more than one button at a time. But never pre-load the button before it shows up on the screen. If you do so, you will get a 9 or 10 secs penalty (I'm not sure of the penalty).

All the buttons always come out in the same sequence, with a slight variation. Depending on which side the pit stop is, you will have to press either square or circle button to leave the pits (what out for the fuel guy once you start your pit stop).

Yeah True. I guess i just naturally knew the lollipop would be on the other side depending on the track.

X2 on hitting it early. You're guaranteed 14 plus second stop if you do that.

Just to clarify, as I wasn't online when you lot were talking about this, I got a puncture on my right rear tyre from the incident, obviously due to a lag bubble. Although I experience no lag :S. Oh well, just leave it at that and can't wait for the next race.

There tends not to be any damage when it involves the cushion effect. But can we just leave it at that, we dont want this to spiral into something it dosent need to.

Just everyone, myself included, give more than the space of a car between you and whatever car is near you. End of, dont you agree Ardius?

Agreed, don't take too much offence from being hit off or losing position or from accidents. It happens and we are not a bunch of punters.

He can take my seat for the First two rounds as apperantly, it'll be two weeks before my PS3 finally arrives

We talked about it and ZERODUCK has our permission to become Super Aguri's third driver. :D

Okie dokie

One request though, could we please turn off collisions, at least for any further practice races? Perhaps even for the official races in the near future? No biggie, I won't complain about racing with full collision & damage. I just think that Online play, with its slight lag issues, isn't best suited to full damage collisions. What do you guys think?

As others have said, collisions are best left on. We can't adjust the amount of damage that is inflicted by the way, and we can only turn damage off by switching pit stops off.
If we have no collisions, every time someone catches you, you have no chance to defend your position, he can just race straight through you. It also doesn't offer much challenge for actually racing, it basically turns the game into a giant multiplayer time trial, which I think in many people's opinion is rather dull.
Yes, the collision detection is not great, but, its better than nothing.

Tell you what, we could trial collisions off for one practice race (which is the point of them anyway) and see what you think. You might enjoy it at first because you aren't being hit off as easily, but trust me, its gets highly dull when you have no difficulty in passing people and have no chance to defend.

Thats why I say , if you are slow or struggling , please slow down or pull aside at the 1st given "SAFE HAVEN" as to let the faster ones through. This scenario happened to me on the final lap as you stated, went from P3 to P4. In fact , it may have been you Biggles that got around me during this little skirmish , was it ? it was , sorry misread your post.

Yes, this is something I might have to make a rule, though I think it will take some of the team strategy out of the game. I won't penalise people for holding up faster cars when being lapped, however, I think those who do move aside will be appreciated a lot more.

Thoughts,

Sigh, the problem with turning penalties off is that I believe the fastest laps are still counted when you shortcut corners, making it very difficult to find out who did a "clean" fast lap.
The only tracks that I can remember have unbearable penalties are:
1. Melbourne
2. San Marino
3. Monaco - though they are in the right place I think they are much too harsh, this is a controversial one really, generally I think theyre best left on here.

I can't think of any other tracks off hand that are bad for small mistake-inducing penalties but generally the majority of tracks have no problems and if you're getting penalties a lot, all I can say is: Practice! You shouldn't be so far off track that you gain so many penalties, because most of them are not in spots that you mistakenly hit unless you went all four wheels off track.

Ok, next Bahrain practice race is scheduled for Friday, let me know if anyone can't make it and we'll see about altering the date/time, however, I'm going to try and stick to these races times from now on because it seems the majority can make them.
Because of the popularity of NTSC, I'm letting DaddyVDUB and ImagineByLennon organise off calendar practice races for you lot to get up to speed with pit stops, etc and also to test out different rules settings to see what you like best.
Of course the PAL drivers are free to meet up too, but I as usual I cannot organise anything on this front (though I do hope to host the PAL practice race on Friday, fingers crossed).

Oh, and one last thing:
The Bahrain Grand Prix will be held at the end of next at least, so if you want a reason to get practicing, I give you one ;) Points will count.

I haven't been online much with F1CE & this is the first "serious" online race I've been involved in (ie. 20 laps & somewhat "organized").
Other than a few hotlaps with CardCaptor Yoshi on LFS, it's the first serious online race I've been involved with as well.

I noticed last night as well that there were some who were struggling a bit. Be it nerves ,bad night , not knowing track , just trying to hard to get the car toward the front, whatever the issue, don't know. Now here is where a factor comes in. If you are struggling (said this last night in a post),and this includes myself , please have the common courtesy to pull aside or just slow down at the first possible "safe haven" as to let the faster cars get through. THANK YOU.
Well then, my sincere apologies for not noticing the 'right of way' flags.
anime_smile_sweat.gif
Dunno if the game would flash that flag on screen within the drivers viewing area without interfering with the driver doing his racing.

Sure well have a 20 lap race at Magny-Cours Tues at 9pm eastern US same channel same password. I will setup race room.
OK then, I'll remember to let you do that this time.:O
We can take a vote on it Collisions on or off
I'll start it off I vote for collisions ON
Since I need 'experience points', I say turn them on. And as for the time, 9 or 10 pm EST sounds good for me.

At the end of the day, I think we will have to race with everything on. A lot of valid points have been said. Unfortunately, to turn any feature off will also turn off part of the fun of the game. The lagging issue happens randomly.

We all should just race, and forget about the flaws of the game. This is not racing for money or prices. We all should race through the issues. Let the best driver win (or the luckiest one.)

Well looks like snow here tomorrow, so I'll be around Tuesday night. As for the NTSC guys, I am usually good with Sunday or Tuesday. Friday nights are no good as I am usually away from my house and/or no PS3 available.

So it looks like collisions will be left on, which after pondering it all day at work, seems to be the best idea. So let's get practicing! I'll be on tonight running some online practices and attempt to get more familiar with the way the lobbies work and whatnot. Nothing formal, so anyone can come/leave as they please. So send me a message on here if you want to join, or a Friend request on PSN (my PSN name is the same as on here)

I will be on early, from 7:15 to 8:30 NY's time.

I'm willing to go along with anything, but I still don't understand this: if the lag bubble causes unpredictable collisions, how can you safely overtake another, slower driver, & how can you fairly "defend your position" against someone faster than you coming up behind? In the case of the "alleged incident" ;) with VDUB, it didn't look to me like he was "defending his position", & I (allegedly) hit him anyway. If he had been aggressively defending I would have been even more likely to hit him.

Anyway, if any of you guys are going online tonight, maybe we can run a couple of casual races to get used to the "bubble".

I am hosting Bubble Practice in about an hour when i get home from work. Speaking of which I need to get out of here!

I'm up for a little online practice. :) PM me the details either here and/or on PSN. I'll probably be on there after 8 pm EST.

Got a room in Parabolica now. Just doing some 5 lappers on magny. Room name is magny prac gtp. Password is 0123. I'll be on for a bit now, then will be back on later.

Hey Guys,Enjoyed the informal races tonight thanks to FastDuck-for Gods sake SLOW DOWN, Lennon,Mufongo,&KEVINGENE.We ran a few at Magny-cours with collisions off Duck out of his head fast. Hey Lennon why you taking so many pit stops...LOL :sly:

Well that was a disastrous race at Magny: couldn't find where the pits :dunce: & then when I eventually found them, I forgot to hit the request button, cruised straight through the pits & then ran out of gas. :ouch:
