So I'm into my third hour of the race and decided to take a break and share some insights.

It turns out that ai IS courteus enough to let you pass on the straights when you are lapping them... most of the ai. There are two bloody silver miatas which stubbornely always stick to the line.

Also, I reaaaaly miss the b-spec driver switch off. After 150 laps you really get tired of driving clean and neat. By now I'm drifting every corner trying to burn off my rears and screw the body work!

oh my goodness, it actually lasts 4 real hours?!??!? I don't think I'll like these endurance races very much. 10 laps is already ridiculously long for me. I thought it would be like the 24h Le Mans from Grid. Where it condenses 24 hours into 24 minutes (which I seriously believe is actually more along the lines of 13 to 15 minutes)

I don't mind the long races, except we should be able to switch to B-Spec when we want. Lets face it, 4 hours or more is a long time to just race. I get really bored, I dunno bout you guys..

A mate and I stayed up 24 hours to complete the Lemans 24 hours in GT4, no B-spec, sadly though with the insane XP grind to unlock the endurance events I don't think I'll even unlock it.

wait, you mean the 24 hours Le Mans is actually 24 hours too in gt5?!?!?!?

what the heck!?!!?!? 4 hours was bad enough, but a full day is absolutely ludicrous.

Who thinks of this?

....why are people surprised about this? Endurance races have ALWAYS been real time in GT (unless you count fast forward with B-Spec on GT4).

They should really release a patch to allow switching with B-Spec drivers though...good motivation to play B-Spec and level up your drivers and much more accessible races for those without friends to take turns with.

I think the longest endurance race I've ever done myself was...maybe 6 hours? It may have only been 4. I really enjoy the endurance races since they're such a commitment. I never let myself pause during them so I try to make it a legit test of endurance :P

But yeah, without being able to switch places with B-Spec drivers I just don't see myself completing the longer races on my own.

I'm looking forward to the 24 hours at Le Mans.
It's "the real driving simulator" so why shouldn't these races be in there? :sly:

Wait a minute! where are the endurance events?!! I lost complete faith on seeing them. And if I need to unlock them, didn´t Yamauchi San said that we were going to be able to save progress on them? Because if I can´t switch to B Spec at least, I´m not doing them. Even on B Spec, my PS3 would get YLoD before I even get half the race done.

A buddy of mine and I put 24hrs in on Nurb twice, and on Sarthe twice as well, all A-spec.
All the other endurance races were also completed in A spec.

How are you meant to experience (simulator) a 24hr race if you do not committ 24hrs?
Cry babies

Taken from here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=134047

Endurance(Level Based Unlocking)
Level 25 Grand Valley 300km: Honda HSC '03 (S)
Level 26 : Roadster 4 hours: Mazda 110S '68 (S)
Level 27 : Laguna Seca 200 miles: Infinity Coupe Concept '06 (P)
Level 28 : Indianapolis 500 miles: XJ13 Race Car '66 (P)
Level 30 : Suzuka 1000km
Level 32 : Nurburgring 4h
Level 33 : Tsukuba 9h
Level 35 : Le Mans 24h
Level 40 : Nurburgring 24h

So fat chance of getting Le Mans 24hrs can't be assed to grind that much, think I'll stay hopeful and wait for a content update for more events instead.

What is the big deal, these have been around for ever in the GT franchise. You new kid? :ouch:

Only draw back I feel is you have to keep your PS3 on for 24 hours. God forbid you're not some freak, this might take you a week to do. People don't have 12/24 hours to play a single day. There is no saving in between, and you sure as heck cannot get B-Spec to take over when you cannot race anymore. This is the only real con I have about making legit 24 hour races. It isn't fair to everyone in all situations. Seriously at development, you think that many people (majority) will keep their PS3 on and paused for over 150 hours, and this is with them playing well over 3 1/2 hours a day for a week. Well anyways, you think of it, and you think it's a great idea? What made it great in past GT games was that A and B-Spec were the same thing, which should been the same in GT5.

thing is that this is my first Gran Turismo. Well, my 2nd, but my first was GT2 when I was a little kid. So I don't really count that. That's why I'm so confused on actual time endurance races.

That is ... realistic though. Maybe a little too realistic...

In the 24 hour le mans though, don't you usually switch between 3 drivers? How do they expect you to play for 24 hours straight?

Endurance races got worst from one GT to the next...
In GT1 I liked them - I think one of the longest was 30 rounds on Grand Valley ....
In GT4 there were some real 24h races (Nürburgring and LeMans) - I did them "together" with B-Spec - but did't like it.
In my opinion 1 to 2 hour events (but maybe more) of them would be more fun as a whole....

yea i'm pretty new to the franchise.
Having b-spec bob kick in when you want would be great though. That would make it more reasonable. But the shock that in GT5, you can't (as of yet) was the real shocker.

Only one problem. I haven´t let B Spec Bob take control yet, but if he´s as bad as everyone is saying, I wouldn´t trust him half a lap in the norschlife!

Maybe I'm tempting fate by even mentioning it but my ps3 has been on with GT5 loaded since it came out driving and B-specing the whole time. Granted I did turn it off one night since the launch. Its also a first week release PS3 fatboy. :nervous:

dude nice i have the same fatboy and it hasn't been giving me any problems. that just proves how well these machines are made.
only at level 23, can't wait to play the 4h of nurburgring.

Dont worry about it Sony built these things well. Mine has been turned on 24/7 for a good couple of years now. If I'm not gaming I leave it running Folding@home.

Endurance races are done correct imo its called endurance for a reason its tough. Im glad you cant save or b-spec it, sorts the men from the boys come the 24 hour races

Yeh I noticed that also. It seems that the cars that are really slow and way behind everyone else, will move over while the cars that are ahead of the pack (but still behind you by a few laps) won't move as if they think they have a chance of catching you.

You missed out on a lot of GT :/. You can pause on the 24hrs too.

Yeh missing that feature myself, watching my b-sped driver drive and I just want to make him pit and steal the car.

Honestly, the driver is pretty good when he is out in front on any track.

Yeh been doing the same thing here, ever since they announced that the sig competition would be based off B-Spec.

The thing with the 24 hour races is........... in real life 4 guys switch off...... not 1 person driving 24hours straight lol.

I do as well. Have done so for years

I think its been on for 720 days out of the last 2 years. Only prolonged time off was when I moved and during power outages.

on the same token, how many people do you think will actually even get to unlocking 24-hour races? and of those who get to unlock the races, how many do you think will be "serious" gamers? most if not all of them. so it only makes sense to make it a real deal. I too remember pauing my ps3 for half a day to complete endurance races in the past GT series.

Sure I will just tell my family they cant watch blu rays / play any ps3 games for the 3 or 4 days that it would have to be on sitting on the pause screen.

Letting us save would make more sense.

Letting us save would make more sense.

I remember hearing something like this. About saving Endurance Events and going back to them at a later time. I need to go get a Twitter....

Letting us save would make more sense.

Well I don't think anyone has gotten that far yet so we'll just have to wait and see if that is an option

then you won't have to "endure" endurance races. save anytime, load anytime, and play whenever you want and how much you want.
