Lol? Are you guys afraid of de-tuning? It's more challenging to make a 500pp car into a 450pp car and be fast then it is too turn a 400pp car into a 450pp car and be fast.

How do you get the 70 Challenger and Chevelle? Not seeing them in NCD.

Challenger is in NCD, it's under Dodge. The chevelle is a standard (cries) and you have too luck out and buy it in UCD, but they usually pop up all the time. Atleast in mine.

Bah...standard Chevelle. And bah, I meant Charger, not Challenger. Do you win it in like B-Spec Muscle Car Comp or something?

Not sure haven't made it that far in B spec due too laziness. It's been in Online Dealer a couple of times.

Would you all ever run races ONLY with the promotional tuner cars?
(Spoon, Nismo, Mines, Tom's etc)

Many of them are fun at this low of PP and there is some variety.

Tons of fun last night. Competition was pretty tight. Drafting made just about everyone even. Grenade and I battled it out for 2 laps on the Ring and Max was right there with us as well.

PS, Since I don't participate in Nurburgring night I haven't spent as much time on this track at this power level racing with others. There are a few turns I use lots of trail braking on when making hot laps. As a result, it is obvious I wasn't quite ready to brake when everyone else did in this video. I gave Grenade a few love taps, but nothing hard enough to mess up his line and send him spinning.

Nice taking second there. First of all it's ridiculous running cars like that there, and then trying to pass one of those boats anywhere besides the straight.

How were you guys getting such high speeds without topping out? Did you make any weight adjustments? I tried to get between 1430-1450kg, and even 1500+ on the Ring but still wasn't redlining though topping out at ~145. Same @ Sarthe. I wasn't higher than 280hp though. Camaro is definitely fastest of the 3 I ran last night. (Camaro, Charger, Mach 1)

Yeah, Grenade ran a clean line. I knew I could carry more speed entering the turns but there was just no room to pass until he made a mistake on the 2nd lap. The turn I got around him I call the "tri-turn". it's got 3 apexes and if you hit it right you carry tons of speed out of it.

The only pass I did make not on the final straight was to get by Max. There was no contact recorded on my screen but when I looked in my rearview he was fishtailing. When I watched the replay I captured it from grenade's point of view since he said he didn't see any contact either. I think Max just got loose trying to cut the corner and give me space. His car was noticeably loose later on so he may have just been running too stiff dampers for this track.

As for running high speeds: 6-speed custom tranny with super tall gears. These cars have massive torque so you don't need a close ratio box. I think my top speed was somewhere between 160-180 for each of the tracks. I tried to keep it below redline since the V8 power drops off drastically about 500-1000 rpm before redline.

What I found interesting was how fast Max came up both times. I was bump drafting to increase the speed of myself and the car in front of me but Max blew by going super fast. I'd be curious to see how he obtained that much speed.

Oh, and my car in the video was at stock weight...something like 1800+ kg. I ran the stock suspension too. Actually it was pretty much stock except for LSD, Tranny, Clutch, and Flywheel. Fun to drive, but not as quick as the Chevelle or Camaro in a straight line. Enough power to keep up in the draft but not enough to run solo.

Lol, the Corvette and GTO locked together made crazy speed at La Sarthe. The Chevelle was just too much fun at the ring, it hardly struggled. But, unfortunately AOK spun out twice which slowed us down. We really could've made under 8 minute laps if that hadn't happened.

Re: 8:00 laps.
Definitely a possibility if you kept it clean and got a bump draft on every straight. My 2nd lap wasn't perfect but I did manage a 8:05. Lost a good second or two when i freaked out seeing AOK stopped in the middle of the track and went on a grass mowing expedition. Prolly would have been better if AOK had bump drafted me on the last straight instead of going for the pass but I was able to tuck behind him and steal his draft. We wasted time though and Max caught up.

Does anyone else find it odd that two cars bump drafting cannot increase their speed enough to overcome a third car following behind in the draft? I don't race Nascar in the game but does the "speed dating" we've seen on the new Daytona track and Talladega work in this game?

I just killed some time creating a collage for the OP. If anyone else enjoys taking photos of our nightly shenanigans, I commission you to create a better collage. I'll send a premium car, paint chip, or something in your direction if you come up with something good.

I asked yesterday, but had no response so I am reposting.

Are you all open to the idea of running a 450 Tuners only night? Spoon, Nismo, Mines, TRD, Toms etc

Any time you talk about this games draft, you have to understand that their draft equation makes no sense whatsoever.

Yeah, yeah, i know...trying to make sense of it is moot.

The draft in this game is unfortunately not accurate. The idea that you get in the draft and get basically a shot of nitrous and speed past the car in front of you is completely inaccurate. The game does not pick up the effect of side draft, or the fact that two cars LOCKED together, become one single entity in the air. Sure, the game recognizes bumpdrafting, but not like it should. Aerodaynamics are also not 100% accurate. If that were the case, I should've been lifting off the ground in the vette at La Sarthe. Since curves like that increase lift, not downforce. Another thing, is that they don't represent bumpdrafting 100%. If I bumpdraft a car in a straight line, I HAVE to hit it dead square in the back, or else the bumpers wouldn't lock and would send it flying. Or even at Daytona, I should hit the car, in the right side of the bumper, which will push the car in front around the corner, not straight, meaning less turning on his part, and more countersteering, then turning left. The game does not recognize this, and will simply push the car in a straight line no matter what. It's unfortunate, but we do the best we can, with what we have.

it's not entirely unrealistic either, what aerodynamic properties there are, are balanced out with the cars well.

drafting gains you effective horse power, especially at high speeds and drag coefficients; they have that down 99%. there is no air pressure controls and to model what you desire is getting into dynamics which would belong in a flight simulator, but the open-source flightgear sim, models air densities over wing surfaces so surely it can be done.

Yes but this require that every car have a model that is equivalent too standards. Since standards just have invisible blocks that simulate you hitting them, or the air hitting them.

Im hosting tonight. Send a friend req and look for the rm between 9:30-9:45.

I'll be there tonight. We going to get a chance to pull out those great RM rally cars we've been collecting from the UCD and Online Dealership all this time?

That Carolla rally car is calling my name…

Yes. I will allow actual rally cars tonight...as long as you bring them down to 450pp.

Sweet, I think I have some Group B rally cars :D

get this room up!

Public room or in Chuyler's lounge?

Racing was pretty exciting tonight, got even more exciting after grenade and Chuyler left, because the room exploded with people.

Thanks ass!!

We could have had a full room of pubbers when grenade and I were there...but i don't really enjoy getting pushed off the track, especially by people I don't know.

The ice tracks were tons of fun. Plenty of room to pass and its easy to gain time on one section only to lose it on another. My rally escort was pretty slow in a straight line (due to tons of power reduction and downforce I couldn't remove) but I could draft and stay at the front...then it was just a matter of waiting for someone to make a mistake.

I had a good battle with WiiFreak on the long Chamonix track. I would catch up to him at the double hairpin and then he would drive across the 2nd embankment and pull away. On the 2nd to last lap, I called out "Hey why don't you try staying on the track". He did and that was all it took for me to catch him. So basically, the 2nd embankment is faster...which is kind of lame if you ask me...but then again, we all drive through the grass at toscana. I guess I'll just have to try it myself next time.

The Eiger tracks I think are a little too narrow for wheel to wheel racing. They are fun, but the good drivers merely wait for the car in front to make a mistake. The bad drivers crash full speed into every turn and hope for the best. I was not a fan of Cujo's approach to the track and it was very disrupting.

Reverse grid order worked out well for the rally tracks. It forces the better drivers to deal with getting dirt/snow in their face instead of running at the front the whole time. It also challenges the slower drivers to simply run clean lines and block the faster ones.

Motor City, not sure I saw you in the room. I usually open a public room so the racing can continue after I leave. People have noticed handling differences with the private lobby and someone inevitably starts the race by accident.

Here's a few videos of the action.

First race at Toscana my car just decided to turn sideways on the sweeping turn. I'm not sure what physics would cause the behavior but i corrected it in later laps by simply not coming into that turn as fast. Bowtie had the best lap of the race but he pulled to the side to battle some other cars on the last lap, giving me the opportunity to get around AOK for the win.

One of the later races at Chamonix Mini. Bowtie had the fastest laps of the night on just about every track using street cars. I was determined to stick it out in my rally car...after all, when else do i get to use it. The hairpin on this track makes for some interesting racing. Everyone thinks they can take it faster than the guy in front of them. I just went slow and drove around people on the inside while they were bouncing off the embankment wall. It was a great battle between the top 3 drivers and it took several laps before I could get past Diablo for the win.

We could probably do that...as long as everyone has at least one to choose from. Generally speaking though, the tuner cars don't offer that much of an advantage. A S2000 is a quick car whether its a tuner model or not. If anyone else expresses interest, i'll add it to the schedule.
