nice coverage Rockin, guess i missed a lot of action. :(

Who won?

i think chuyler... but mbenz was in second... so he gets to choose.

Video from last night's race. King needs to clean up his driving if he is going to continue racing with us. I will send him a PM. GTP_OLR violations are pretty obvious in Rockin's video as well as mine.

I wasn't entirely happy with my tune. I did stage 1 weight reduction then added the weight back to the front of the car for a 49/51 distribution. The car understeered entering turns though and any effort to fix it would cause uncontrollable oversteer. It is possible the car was just quicker on parts of the track than I am used to though. The video shows I had tons of trouble with 130R. I couldn't quite follow anyone through that turn without going crazy wide or losing a good 1/2 second. The 5-speed tranny threw me off as well. I figured out early that I should shift into 1st exiting the hairpin but other places on the track I wasn't quite sure when to shift. I think the only reason I came in 1st was because I was playing it safe on most of the track and was pretty much the only car not to go into the dirt.

mbenz came in second and I believe he chose the Volvo C30 R-Design '09 for next week. I didn't catch whether he picked a track.

Yes he chose the Volvo, and no, he did not pick a track.

Trial Mountain sound good?

Sure, forward or reverse?

My tune was way different. I had the adjustable lsd... but i dont know what good it did. The one thing i did was a weight reduction and added ballast to the front for a 46/54 weight distribution. This made for better turn in, but i would oversteer on fast corners and snap oversteer on everything else. So, i adjusted some spring rates, lsd, and camber and coulnt fix it. So, i decided to change the ballast to the back to help the tires hold better. I think i ended up with a 42/58 weight distribution. It helped with the oversteer a bit, but I dont think i ever had any understeer problems.

Also, i dont see why you would drop to first gear ever. For me, that was just asking for the rear to break loose. On the hairpin, i would try to go wide and stay in second. I noticed you were only in first for a very short time. Im not sure it was worth it.

The 5 gear transmission messed with me too. It took a few practice laps to figure out how many gears to downshift.

I was in first for the final 2 laps without contention (which I cut from the video to save upload time).

I forget which lap, but you can see me pull big time out of the hairpin. I wasn't very quick through the next double-apex turn for fear of running wide like everyone else. I need to practice that turn to figure out the right turn-in spot.

Anyway, I was running an extremely tall first gear, to the point where it may have been a ratio similar to 2nd gear on a 6 speed. I also tweaked 5th gear to make it taller for drafting. I figure I can get close enough to someone via 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. So I place 5th in the right spot for maximum power in the draft with no risk of redlining. If people are going to catch me anyway in the draft, I might as well be prepared for catching and passing them back...however I think I went too tall last night. Top speed was like 165 and I could have gotten away with 155.

Usually what happens with this gearing is that I pull away from drivers at the beginning of a straight and they catch up at the end when my tall gear slows me down...however, by then its too late to pass. When I'm behind, I can keep pace at the beginning of the straight and then when I shift into the final gear I'll be right at peak hp to slingshot past. But last night, I was getting blocked...and cars I intended on trying it with kept making mistakes. I was the last man standing with 2.5 laps to go and I ran clean enough to stay out front.

As for your oversteer issues. Always try cars without the LSD. At this power and grip level, I find the LSD just gets in the way. It sends too much power to the outside wheel mid corner and causes outside wheelspin...which turns into snap oversteer. I stopped installing it on all my RWD cars unless they have excessive inside wheelspin...but that only happens on comfort soft nights usually.

Sorry about the occasional dirty stuff last night guys, I didn't realise you took this game so seriously. I'll try my best to be clean from now on.

Not gonna lie though I hope we don't use NSX's again I hated the handling, but I am more used to 600pp+ cars tbh. Gonna buy a C30 in an hour or two 👍

It's not that we are "so serious", it's just common courtesy not to do something to another driver that you wouldn't like done to you. A 10 yr old can divebomb into a turn, lean on a car and come out ahead. We have a certain respect for one another on the track and the room is about having a good time more than it is about winning. Keeping everyone on the track and racing wheel to wheel is the goal and if someone's driving prevents that, it needs to be corrected. You are obviously quick enough to race up front so just read through the GTP OLR and we'll all have a great time.

Chuyler:
I didnt know you changed your first gear like that. Makes more sense now as mine was redlining at around 42mph... so staying in second was right for me. Now, I overtuned and detuned to get a nice flat power curve for the last 3k rpms, so i think i was fine doing this. My trans maxed out at around 157. Was perfect for suzuka. (not so much at daytona, where i ran out of gear) I adjusted my 4th and 5th gears to get me higher. I think i also adjusted my final drive a bit to stretch out all the gears a little, since it was a 5 speed.
My lsd didnt really affect anything really. Both stock and adjustable were burning the outside tire for me.

King:
You were very fast while your tires lasted. You just fought too hard to keep or gain back your position. Blocking and divebombing like you were doing was going to ruin the race for the other person, like it did me there
It is just a courtesy thing. If you watch chuyler, you can see him just wait for laps for a big enough mistake. I was doing the same. There were times I could have dove to the inside, but i knew i couldnt hold that line and give you room on the outside. There were also times when i could see the next turn was going to be too crowded so i backed off.
I think you could have been up on the podium if you would have just taken things easier.
That being said, it was a good race dispite the couple of bumps.

Good racing last night guys. I have no idea how you guys were able to drive that thing so fast. I was having trouble just keeping mines on the road. Hope to never have to drive that car again! Look forward to the next race day with you guys.

I got a 1.39.485 with a 10 min tune on SS, just a second ago. This volvo does exceptionally well.

Volvo C30 you say. Twitchie and Diabolic both know, I kinda love volvos. I will do well, a bold claim but I drive my c30 a lot and I love trial mountain, a good match indeed, except the first corner out if the tunnel if you lose speed there...... bad news

it's a hot hatchback and a pretty one, although i never like the interior in real life.
This car seems to illicit a lot of interest for our one themed car series. I had mine for quiet sometime now but it always fall short to my lowly Civic EK 97.

I think Eiger would do justice too for this hot hatch!

Eiger will make a good second track of the night...but it isn't great for racing wheel to wheel. There are no passing zones except to wait for a big mistake or push someone off their line. Most races we do on this track are decided in the first few turns. After that it is just follow the leader.

49/51 distribution
42/58 weight distribution.

Its interesting to see so much difference in weight distribution....mine is 53/47 (no understeer at all)the car handle well but I think my parts selection wasn't good(my car feel slow in straight line).

Whaaaat??? How did you get a MR car to be 53/47? 200kg on the front wheels?

Your car was plenty quick at Nurb GP/F. My suspension was a little questionable and it didn't agree well with that track. Actually, I didn't really like it at Daytona either. The bus stop was pretty scary. Understeer while braking and oversteer when I lifted off the brake pedal.

I think It was 198kg -50

rotary... that volvo is riced out!

i need to buy one of those again.

i tried using the wheel on Eiger but couldnt get the hang of it or im not that fast enough steering-wise so i decided to use only DS3 for that track.

i bet yours will even be better! :) its a nice car to play with when it come to appearance. Im sure you guys can come up with more interesting color and rims combo.

with regards to the NSX topic, it was one of these cars i couldnt find a right tune with 450pp in SS tires. I didnt try dumping the LSD im sure it could had made a difference, snap oversteer? hell yeah! its a hard beast to tame!

I know we do the 80's night thing, and classics, but I feel there are some cool cars we are missing out on. Can we try 70's 450pp night on Sunday? This way we won't be flooded with muscle cars, and we have a variety. I wouldn't want a kg limit though, just normal 80's night except it's 1970-1979. Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. We can call it Disco Night.

Next week's schedule...

I put 70's night on Sunday. I should be around to host.

For muscle monday, I have selected "Corvette Summer" as the theme. For those not attending fireworks celebrations, pick any vette old or new. I'm not sure if I'll be on but you can use my private lobby as a meeting ground.

Tuesday we can do 90's JDM again. I'll need a volunteer to host since I will be doing a series that night.

Sunday 7/3: Disco Night -- 450pp, SS Tires, 1970-1979
Tracks: Lobby Vote
--Host: chuyler1 (PSN: chuyler1)
Monday 7/4: Corvette Summer -- 450pp, Vettes Only, SS Tires

It's gonna be hard to decide what car I'm gonna use on sunday

Yeah, the muscle cars will still be fast...but there are probably a few gems in there that I haven't thought about running before. I've got a decent tune on the 512BB but I'd have to de-mod it for 450.

Here's the full list for Sunday (disregard the race cars and r/m cars since they aren't allowed). http://www.mygranturismo.net/carlist.php?max_year=1979&min_year=1970&order=pp_ini&start=0

Concepts usually aren't allowed either but I'd be curious to see what that DOME Zero does.

There are a few muscle cars in the 70s.

We should do a GT-R night.... since there are like 5000 gt-r's in the game.

I had another thought for a racing night.

A bring what you own night. Basically, if you own a car and it is in the game (or a close relative) bring it and race it! Chuyler, you can bring the MS6. I have an 11' Mazda6, so I would bring the 07' Atenza. I used to own a protege, so i could bring that too. Grenade can bring his crappy nsx. There would be a nice variety. Plus it would be fun to drive cars you can actually afford. 450pp of coarse. Maybe even comfort soft to be more real.
