I've got a room up I've been practicing in, but as you may have read I may not be the best candidate. (I didn't bother with the Ethernet cable yet.) I will wait for your room if that's okay Grenade.

Nvm, chuyler just signed on.

Yeah wait for chuyler. If not him, I generally have the best connection of anyone that I know. 12 mbps upload! :)
If only upload speeds directly correlated with penis size! Oh wait, they do!

@Nex sent you FR req. though I dont often host I make races a couple nights a week

(Note, not a fan of double posts, so I was updating through the evening)

@diablo-Fine with me. So I have to wait till either of you are in the room. Hopefully I'm quick enough to get in...this thread is huge!
--------------------------------------------
Does it usually start behind schedule like this?
---------------------------------------------
Another edit...just sent requests to 4 or 5 random people off this list. I looked through last 5-6 pages and picked people who posted alot. the grenade shark guy doesnt show as in a lobby for me.
--------------------------------------------------
Do I have to be friends with Chuyler1 to get into his lobby? I though if another one of my friends was in the room I could just follow him/her in.
-----------------------------------------------------

Short recap for my first night:

@Nic: I was looking to pass last lap if opportunity came and it did when you missed the first corner brake. I went inside and as you came back onto your line...I was already alongside you. I had no plans on leaving the inside line at that point because it sets up the inside for the following fast right handers, but then you pushed me off it. I assume you didnt see me. Skill doesnt seeme to be a problem as you won every race I was in by a wide margin, but it did happen. Hopefully you find a replay and see.

Its good to learn that blocking is acceptable last lap here. A simple maneuver is understandable, but it sounds like a lot more is okay at times. I was yelling at my screen after Chuyler b-lined right in front 100 meters from the finish. I let him pass at the beginning of the straight knowing I'd be able to pass back. Its good to know I could have been blocking drafters on the last lap. If I'm in 2nd,I'm one to not overtake till late in the race, but should I be in first, I'll certainly from now forth keep it by any means neccessary short of damaging another car or blatant OLR disregard.

@agrenadeshark- You described my leaving perfectly. He said when the host tells folks to leave and come back, half of them dont. I'm in the half that dont. :D Good few races though. A 4th, 3rd and 5th are a bit better than I expected after testing the car. I should have done at least 1 weight reduction though, but I went for power and that made me ultimately slower out of the corners which was very apparent on Rome and Indy.

Late? I had the room open at 9:45. On nights I am hosting, you can just drop into my personal lobby before I sign on. I believe that works. Just don't start the first race until 10:00 Eastern.

Tonight there was some questions about blocking on the straight. OLR allows for one move down the straight. If you watch Indy racing, they generally track out then continue to turn so they are on the inside of the track down the straight, then they track back out whenever it is inconvenient for the car behind them. On anything but the last lap, stick to that behavior. If someone is able to draft you, they'll be stuck on the outside for the next turn.

On the last straight of the last lap, you've got to protect your position from drafters. I caught up to Absalom at Indy the turn before the double-hairpin of the last lap. I waited patiently for the straight and gave him some bump drafts to pull away from the car behind me. Then I passed him on the inside before the final highspeed turn. He drafted me afterward and as he cut inside about 200ft before the start/finish I shadowed him and forced him to bump me. It wasn't a zig zag or even a super fast jerk...it was just enough for him to tap me. Had it been any other lap I would have let him go by.

After racing Nic for months I have learned the best place to be at the end of a race like Indy or Daytona is 2nd place. If you aren't quick enough to break the draft of the car behind you, the best thing to do is shadow them and time your final pass so there is no time left for them to get by you...but be prepared for them to make an evasive move to prevent your pass.

zmike came in 3rd on the first race behind Nic and I so it's his turn to pick a car and track for next week. Rules are...
* Car must be tunable to 450pp
* Premium cars or something currently available in OCD

I had a couple of opportunities to try some passes on lap 9 and 10 of the first race but I never attempted them. I had a good run on the back stretch on lap 9 but thought it would be best to wait. It ended up not working out anyway.

Hi,

I like the sound of this series from what I've read so far and was hoping I'd be able to tag along for a race or two at some point.

I'm in the UK (so I know i'm already unpreferred) but I have a decent connection (up to 6.5mbps) and am generally a clean, competitive and conscientious type of driver.

Are there any spaces left?

Cheers

There is usually plenty of space. Send me a friend req and subscribe to the thread for updates.

hi chuyler,

may i join the fun too?

if so, car and track will be posted in this thread?

how do i know what car is being used, for example, tomorrow?

is it a set rotation/themed nights? or always different cars, never the same from one week to the next?

it's a nightly affair, right?

i was watching a bit of that first race last night, at trial mountain circuit

sounded like you lot were having a blast

who was in the blue car that damaged bigtime at the last chicane? zmikedz? that was massive

Replay from the first race last night... A tough battle up front but I think Nic was the faster driver/car on fresh tires for sure. He could negotiate a few of the turns much quicker than me, especially the turn before the entry to pit road.

Lap 2: I passed mike on the outside between the tunnels. This is my normal line. The track was wide open and I had a good run out of the previous turn so I just kept my foot down. There was some contact but I'll let you guys decide whether that was a clean pass. After watching the video, it looks like he was following Nic, who in an attempt to pass Esh before the turn was running slower. I didn't see that at the time...all I saw was an open hole.

Lap 2 hairpin after the back straight:. Both Nic and I draft pass Esh and dive inside. I think this was simply a matter of the two of us out braking Esh. Neither Nic or I went wide or interrupted Esh's line until after we were past him. I'd like to hear from Esh on this one though.

Lap 4 I successfully tail and draft pass Nic on the back straight.

Lap 5: Nic makes a little bit of contact with me as I go wide entering the first tunnel. He backs off. I think that was more because I slowed down than him missing his brake point. On the back straight he makes his draft pass to gain back the lead.

Lap 6: I draft pass Nic in the same spot...we can do this all day!

Lap 7: Nic draft passes me but is slow exiting the next hairpin. I come up inside and we go 2-wide through the next series of turns. We finally get to the hairpin at the bottom of the hill and I'm on the inside. No way I was going to carry appropriate speed and maintain an inside line so I give up the position and fall behind him.

Lap 8: I didn't get a decent run out of the 2nd tunnel so my draft pass didn't finish until the very end of the straight. I hit the brakes early and stayed inside. Nic went a little wide and I completed the pass after the hairpin. We were about to go 2-wide into the next series of turns (again) but I think Nic decided against it because mike had caught up to us. That's what happens when you battle for position LOL.

Lap 9: Nic gets a good run off the final turn before the start/finish and pushes to run side by side through the next series of turns. However the final left hander is difficult to take from the inside without pushing someone out. I think he lifted off to prevent wrecking the both of us. On the back straight, Nic was late getting on the gas and I pulled away out of drafting distance.

Lap 10: While passing the start/finish I stayed left at first trying to force Nic to my outside. I didn't run the fastest line through the next series of turns, but it was quick enough to keep Nic behind me. I hit the 2 turns before the back straight perfectly and it looks like Nic was slow to get on the gas again. He didn't catch my draft. I took the hairpin a little slow and ran a blocking line through the next series of turns. I was just quick enough through the final section to get the win.

Great racing Nic...and good job catching up mike. Let us know what car/track you pick for next week and I'll add it to the schedule.

For the most part it is nightly. The first post will always contain the schedule of events and restrictions for each night of the week. Feel free to join us any night. I thought I saw you poke in last night...you should've grabbed a C30 and joined in the action.

I apologize for my more then usual drunkenness last night. If I bothered anyone with my overly vocal commentary, sorry.

On another note, I got faster as the night went on. Chuyler, I am going to share my car today! Drive it! It's amazing!

I'm sure it is. I'll take a look at it. I had quite a bit of rear ballast as well as the night went on. (whenever my car gained hp, i added weight). Your car was probably a little bit lighter, and you were maybe gaining a few 100ths in a straight line, but other than that we were pretty even. I actually enjoyed this car. It was pretty easy to tune and a blast to drive. The video above shows Nic and I trading paint for several corners...you can't do that without incident in a NSX.

Oh BTW, any suggestions for next Tuesday's theme? I won't be around (lemons racing) so its up to those who will be participating to pick something fun.

i couldnt make it for the first race, got tied up from work... :guilty:

Im sure most of you guys love the way the C30 handles for a FF car. Was able to join from the 2nd race onwards and Rome was the highlight for me. Had an interesting battle with daneyb with so many lead changes as we battle for the 8th place???
i would pass him this corner and he will pass the next corner and so on....
shame i forgot to save the replay. :grumpy:

at indy, for the last lap grenade catch my draft and he had the faster car, forgot its allowable to block in the last lap. My mistake was i slowed down in the 4th lap by the straight thinking it was the last lap and lost like 3-4 seconds of lead allowing Grenade to catch me...

Indy was rather amusing. Grenade pushed me out of turn 1 I think...so I rammed him on the next turn. At the end of the straight he tried to demonstrate his drunken blocking techniques and forgot to brake. I laughed as he went careening into the barrier. After that I'd have to thank Esh for giving me some boosts of speed down the straight. That helped us close the gap on the two leaders who apparently were having a battle of their own. Normally I hate racing Indy, but in this car it was a breeze.

yeah you were drunk as an a**! so manic that i was laughing hard at times and couldnt concentrate on racing.

High damage on Mt. Aso was freakin fun and hilarious as most of us were seeing red the first turn. glad i finish that race but not as good as Fuji, i wonder who's that drunk driver bumping into me giving me full damage at the rear!!! had to bail out and look into the replay, you guys were all packed the whole lap, its like seeing wolves running together chasing an invinsible rabbit. i swear it would had been fun to finish the race with you guys side by side. first time i've seen that.......... then grenade loss it for no apparent reason! spun out! heh! KARMA!:lol:

great racing and great hosting Chuy and Nade!

"drunken blocking techniques and forgot to brake" - epic quote :lol:

thats the reason you dont drink and drive!

This is affectionately known as a pulling a me... Anytime you are going in a straight line and then suddenly are sideways in a wall for no apparent reason, that's a me.

Other good examples of a me are running off the track while being overly vocal on the Mic.

Examples of other people:

Pulling a RedReevos : Going off the track in fear of someone else hitting you even if they wouldn't have.

Pulling a Diabolic: Run the fastest lap on a track only to end up 6th or worse.

Another Diabolic: Run intensely faster when you are way behind only to instantly mess up when you get ahead.

Pulling a Cujo: Losing to me every race despite all your claims to the contrary!

I am sure there are more. Anyone else think of any I missed?

Pulling a Grenade: Declaring to all that you are superior on a turn and beaching the car while trying to demonstrate.

Pulling a grenade..

When you find yourself talking to yourself on the mic... and nobody else is responding for the whole race.

To be fair, I only like to talk to intelligent company, sometimes it's only me :)

Story of my life. "Hey Dad, Watch this! Awe..."

Great, there is 10 of "me's" for everyone of you's.

Anyone think of a pulling a chuyler? I tried, but I couldn't come up with anything.

Except his friend list is full.

How many people can it hold? Mine seems to be getting pretty full.

P.S. Shouldn't you be offline B-specing right now?? lol

No... I do that while at work silly. Im at home buying cars and racing.

I think I've decided that I'm not a fast qualifying driver...but I'm just fast enough to draft pass. Watching the video above, I follow drivers from a greater distance than Nic...but I put the car in the right spot when it counts. I know how to exit just about every turn on almost every track...but I never quite get the perfect braking into them...especially during the race. I err on the side of caution and make back time by drafting. Once in the lead, I simply focus on not overshooting any turn or exposing the inside line. Savvy drivers can usually get right on my bumper and draft me since it is very rare for me to get the lead and pull away.

My finishes on these same make nights basically show that I can tune a car to be fast enough, and I can drive the car quick and consistently to be at the front when other drivers make their mistakes.

Lancia Delta -- Probably my best tune. No one could touch me in a straight line. I got the pole and lead the entire race I think....but I don't think DF-R is a very difficult track.

Audi TT -- I was only a few 10ths off the pole but after exiting to check the lineup I got placed toward the back of the pack. Some rough racing at the beginning and getting beached put me too far back to catch the leaders. I placed 1st in 2 other races that night.

Nissan Silvia -- I was a bit slow in qualifying with my 10 minute tune but I was able to catch and battle AOK for several laps until he spun me. I probably would have won since we had pulled away from everyone else and AOK's car wasn't quick enough to draft pass me.

Acura NSX -- Another 10 minute tune helped me stay with the top 5 at the start of the race and come away with the win. I was the only one who didn't make any mistakes. I certainly wasn't the fastest car in the corners but I had the speed where it counted and led for the final 3 laps with no challengers.

Volvo C30 -- This was probably a 20 minute tune. I made about 3-4 laps to dial in the LSD and another 5-8 laps before the race to experiment with the suspension. Not the fastest lapper but I saved my tires did my best to stay out front once I got there.

LOL, this is so true...I was never Mr. Popular...but I'm guessing that's the case with all of us video game--err--simulator addicts.

when i was yet to discover gt5 like 3-4 mos ago, my PS3 was just a blue ray player. Now im having a hard time managing time with family, friends and PSN! one thing for sure, my belly gotten a lot bigger than it used too since i started playing with you guys.... havent been to the gym for 2 mos now! :)

did Mike decided on what car to drive next thursday?

I have divided on the Alfa Romeo 147 Twin Spark 06 at Cape Ring South. I wasn't going to select another FF but decided that there are still 6 other nights of racing for more superior drivetrains.

Chuyler; your pass on lap 2 was clean. I was honestly pissed when it happened because it felt like you were kinda pushing your way into the line of cars. After I watched the replay it was pretty clear that you had a run on the outside and I didn't notice and continued to follow nik which resulted in our racing lines meeting. As I am a timid driver I usually don't try any passes in pack racing unless there is an opening or the gained position is important. My only complaint would be that there wasn't a reason to get in front if me when I was just following nik and esh. But again, that's just my style and not at all how it should be done by everyone. Like I said, clean pass.

Grenade; the only thing that bothered me about your drunkeness was the fact that I went to my fridge to find one beer. And the only liquor I had was my girlfriends chocolate vodka. It was pretty inconsiderate of you to be so drunk when I was left in agonizing sobriety.
