"We are increasingly bullish on the PS3's prospects not only this year but over the next few years," Koller says. "A lot of great content is coming. And over the next two to three years, the PS3 has got an incredible lineup."

"We're going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely."

GT6 will be on the PS3.

To me that almost says "we're going to release the PS4, but don't worry PS3 users, you'll still have games." Almost an assurance that the PS3 won't be forgotten.

Reads to me that we're releasing a new super slim PS3 this week. Don't worry we're not dropping support next year.

He mentions at least two more years, so I don't think he's referring to just next year.

For him to mention two-three more years, to me, sounds like Sony is infact going to release the PS4 soon, and when they do announce it, they don't want PS3 owners to worry, nor upcoming PS3 owners to think twice on buying the PS3. I'm guessing Sony is feeling the vibe that people are starting to worry about PS3 support due to the PS4 possibly coming soon.

Otherwise, why would there be a need for such comment?

Yes, theres 6 or 7 new first party games coming out in 2013/14 and 2 without a release date (excluding gt6). All im gonna say today is, It may be supported for 3 more years but whats to stop them releasing ps4 early. Especially if Xbox comes out soon, its not like they don't have a clue what to do with it, as dev kits have been created after all. People may not want to upgrade but stick with ps3, other that have had it 6/7 years want a change, like me. Nothing stopping xplay over the 2 consoles either.

Also. Little findings have shown Turn 10 are hiring for the next forza, this should either make PD sweet or make them work harder.

exactly, here's a pretty good explanation of what's happening in the next few years...

It makes sense. I would love it if SONY blew the doors off the next gen and released it this Christmas.

This christmas will be about the Vita and the PS3. They push both with new games and the new PS3 slim.

But you can expect a crazy and awesome 2013 gaming news wise. Lots of developers been quiet. Like PD. Developers like DICE (Frost Bite), Konami (FOX engine), Crytek (CryEngine 3), Epic Games (Unreal Engine 4) and more are already prepared for next gen. The next gen will be nothing but awesome.

But I hope that 1080p and 60fps will get standard next gen. They should force the developers to do so. The proper resolution sometimes helps more than some fancy antialising.

Sony have just started pushing out the PS3 Super Slim... You think they're going to let this stuff not sell? The PS2 slim released in 2004. The PS3 released in 2006. Their PS2 is still bringing buckets of money to Sony, so I doubt Sony is going to make that mistake again.

Not even that, some of you are not thinking too clearly. "PS4" = New tech. New tech means PD has to rebuild from the ground up. That's another 6 years in PD's book. Even in the case, the new console wouldn't sell as much as you think it would, and i'm sure as hell not eager to buy a new console... let alone a console just for GT.

Keep in mind, even though the PS2 Slim lasted two years without seeing the PS3, the PS2 had only been on the market for 3-4 years, compared to the PS3's 6 years and counting. Plus, this isn't exactly Sony's first Slim. The "Super" Slim is a result of manufacture savings. There's no real risk of releasing it, even if they don't sell well in the upcoming years.

Speaking of mistakes, do you think Sony will let the next Xbox shine again for a whole year? That would put them back to zero in building up consumer base for next gen. I figure Sony would worry about the farther future, rather than the next 2-3 years of trying to sell as many PS3s as possible.

Can I see proof of that please? Generally the jump from PS2 to PS3 was heavy, because consoles became closer to the PC. But this time the developers already are used to the techniques and the hardware.

Many developers claim that their engines are already next gen ready, so why shouldnt PD's engine be not ready for the PS4?

Actually, the PS3 is night and day compared to PCs. Also, the closer it is to PC, it would actually make it easier for developers, thus the reason why there was so many bad ports early on the PS3's life, and even some to this day (Skyrim, *cough*).

The PS3's "cell" is nothing like a PC's X86 cpu, so if the PS4 do adapt the X86 route, they would have to eventually start from scratch in terms of coding. However, if the PS4 keeps the "cell" tech, then it should be an easy transition for them.

Well if rumours are right it means that 2013 will be the last year of the PS3 talking about full support...i mean they did the same with PS2...the last year it had great games alone with the Slim version (that i still own) to push sales a little bit higher.

So it will be logic to do the same with the PS3 and releasing the PS4 after this "last push".

Great games (exclusives mostly) coming in 2013 for PS3 as TLOU, Beyond and many more ...PS3 Super Slim is here now...

Let´s bet now: Mine will be PS4 Christmas 2013 or first quarter 2014. I put my PS3 with my 40 games on the box with 20+ downloadable games inside alone with my account...

(lol joking of course, i´m not that crazy...)

Think of all programmers that learned ps3, now they are not so speciall :)

I think ps3 will be selling great a long time ahead. If they cut costs so its alot cheaper than Wii U then it can succeed. But with Wii U around the corner and with what seems better hardware and more fun gameplay, the PS3 faces stiff competition already. Same for Xbox. Since Wii is a huge success with no brainer hardware, it will be a bigger leap in technology for the Wii user. I mean Mario Bros in HD and all the other fun games that are coming with what i can see great graphics and good use of the extra screen. Id like GT6 for Wii U too, use the extra screen to get carinfo like tirewear, damage, on the fly settings, livery editor...Ok i know, but it would be interresting to see what PD could do with GT on better hardware, liked to see what they would be able to do on a full spec PC.

Hyped
They should just give us an HD remake of GT4 to keep us busy for a year and a half...

Genius. After all, i still to this day take out gt5 and put in gt4 just to see the diff in car mods and especially tracks. For instance gt5 u can get a turbo supra about 730hp max. You can get well over 800 plus the power of a huge nitrous shot on gt4 with the exact same car!!!

I tend to go back to GT3 myself.

It just shows what you can do with GT-Mode when not many cars or tracks are available.

That's the only reason I even want GT6. I just want a fixed GT-mode with lots to do.

2: GT5 is as good as it gets on todays consoles, to get something worth called GT6 it needs more horsepower.

1: It is not as good as it gets on today's consoles. PD have done a better GT game with last generation consoles.

2: No GT6 doesn't need more power to run as GT6 only needs to be an improvement upon GT5, much like how GT2 was to GT1, and GT4 was to GT3. PD doesn't need to build an entire new game, rather they just need to expand on what they've made with GT5.

So basically GT6 should have the same graphics as GT5, only with much more content and features.

Bravo absolutely right

If GT6 is a new game then its PS4 for sure. But if they are working on GT5 coding, all they need to do is Prem current cars and add to dealer with new vehicles too. New tracks and remastered old tracks. New steamlines menus. New and MORE events for A-spec. New features to make it more competitive. No pixelated smoke or tinny sounding exhausts. Better servers with more lobby options............... They may as well just build a next Gen game really

this is just silly, the premium cars and tracks exist in a 3D program on a computer and can be output to any new system very easily, the only thing they would have to rebuild is the new interface which by PD standards would take a few months if it's anything like GT5, you think they modeled all of those cars for nothing?

Yes. Assets could, more or less, be transferred from their original form directly to the next game regardless of the system (they did for GT4 -> GT5, after all). The problem is that if Sony takes the PS4 away from CELL like it is expected they will, everything they have done from a programming perspective would have to be redone.

I tend to go back to GT3 myself.

I wanted to bust out GT3 and start playing it in earnest a week or so ago, but for some reason it doesn't work right on my PS3 anymore.

PD has created a modified version of GT5 to display it with a 4k resolution (3.840 x 2.160).

We all know that the PS3 does not have the power for it. Is this version running on a pc or maybe a PS4 devkit?

All we know is, that PD already has GT 4k ready. Maybe a sign that they want to push the 4k standard with GT6, like they did with 3D and GT5? If so, the chance that it will come to the PS3 is quite small.

Update:

On the official site it says that it is running on 3 PS3 consoles. But maybe the translation is faded.

Here they show how the technology works.

Still not sure what kind of message they want to send with it. Are they thinking about 4K for the PS4?

Whats the point if nobody has a 4k tv I still doubt 4k for ps4.

They actually used 4 PS3's and if you think the PS4 is going to have four times the processing power and graphics of the PS3 to enable this you're sadly mistaken.

Also they technically don't have a game outputting in 4K. They have four games and four consoles outputting a 1080p image but modified so it's only a quarter of the image, the four images are then projected together. It's basically four games of GT5 being played simultaneously.

Why would he be sadly mistaken? The PS3 is very weak compared to today's technology. The PS3's graphic card for instance is far more than ten times slower than modern graphics cards for PCs. It also has woefully low amount of memory and the Cell is no longer the beast compared to other processors... it is eclipsed by new generation i7's. And then we have the motherboard on which all the PS3 equipment sits, it is very slow at transferring data between the different components.

You think the PS4 is going to contain a new generation i7 processor and very high end GPU? No, of course it isn't because the price would be too high. We've already been over several times how the rumoured specification for the PS4 is not going to be powerful enough for 4k gaming and it's not going to be literally equal to 4 PS3s.

So this 4k malarky, is it in 3D or has 3D been given the boot in favour of 4K?

Also why is it that GT seems to get given the short straw when it comes to Sonys willy waving hence Kaz and co get sidetracked again?

All I will say is £350 laptops withCore2Duo's and onboard graphics chips can run Skyrim at higher level of detail and resolution than the PS3 and with a higher frame rate. But I never mentioned anything about 4K gaming, and having four PS3's strapped together is not going to be as fast as having one PS4 which is four times as fast as a PS3. There is a loss from parrallel processing.

4K gaming is loose term at best. It only states the resolution without any reference to what detail is in the picture. For instance, you can have a plain white background which conforms to 4K resolution and wouldn't place any demand on the resources of even the most budgeted of PCs.

If they are running the game the way Simon is saying they are, that's not really parallel processing.

Indeed. It was literally 4 separate PS3s outputting a 1080p picture, those four pictures were then joined together to make a 4k image.
