Before I blow $5M on a new 787B for the 24H a-spec races, can I find out if the headlights are any good? Or are they as bad as the 908 FAP?

For me the 908 does this weird thing where the low beam is too short, while the high beam doesn't light up anything

Trying to avoid that unless I can't find an answer here :sly:

TURN UP THE BRIGHTNESS ON YOU TV or PRESS PAUSE AND TURN UP EXPOSER!!!! a car like the HKS with no headlights can be driven at night.

Haha yeah I got your point for sure, turning up brightness will invalidate the need for headlights. Kinda like having nightvision I suppose.

Regardless I'm still wondering: Headlight(787B) >= Headlight(908)?
Would like the option of not turning into a dark-elf :dopey:

The light system in GT5 is completely crap. Even on my bicycle i have a better light (Lupine).

Buy the sexier car, the 787B. Also the best for the 24h Nürburgring. 👍

about the same and yes i have both

Cars with bad headlights can be dealt with, just need to learn the track a little better while using them, and maybe take 1% off how hard you're pushing. Lowering the room light helps too(maybe not your eyes though).

It would of course be nice if PD had actually done a little research into what the world looks like after the sun goes down, and what effect the various lights attached to cars have on the way said world looks, before they designed the night-lighting in GT5.

But they couldn't even be bothered to make sure that all of the cars which have headlights actually produce light, so I'm surely expecting too much.

wow. this is why i love gt5. every single car is different, even standards.

I found that the 787b's lights are quite poor. I've lapped the ring at night hundreds of times, but I actually found myself having to push less when driving the 787b at night. Which could be good if you're racing against less competitive cars, but given how the random ai car selections work in gt5, it could be a bad thing if you're up against cars with similar or even superior pace.

I think I know what you and diablo are talking about. I haven't driven my 787B at night yet so I can't answer the actual question, but I have some others that you basically choose between seeing the track 10 feet in front of you, and seeing all the stuff outside the track, but the track itself becoming almost invisible. It is tricky but with a little practice I did start to become more comfortable with it. But as you said, it is pretty tough to really feel like you can go 10/10ths like that.

Are the 24 hour races the only ones that run during the night? I've yet to come across a night time race.

Wasn't there a license test that ran in partially at night, with a Murcielago/Gallardo? Pardon the vague memory, it was quite awhile ago :)

So for the most part I'm hearing that the 787B headlights are as bad as the 908s. Which makes me wonder if I should get the 787B in the first place. I know many of you will say to get it anyway for the history and engine sound, but frankly the potential of the headlights as I saw the car in the dealership was my main draw. Not giving up on the 787B yet though, wanted to hear your thoughts on this question:

Assuming both have good tunes, is the 787B or 908 faster around the 24H races? In terms of lap/race times, not top speed.

That's what they need in GT6, replaceable headlights. Like the option to use Silvania headlights! Lol

That's a pretty cool idea, though I doubt it's on PD's list of priorities. Coz if implemented I can just picture some fans crying foul that the game has gone too much in the NFS direction haha.

also, the 908 flashes like in the real thing. it's cool when overtaking even if it doesn't help the ai to take the slow line. the 908 does have a flaw with the high beams and it is the only car i've found with this glitch. but it does seem as if the 908 beams are brighter than the 787s. I've recently gone through all the cars i wanted to use for the nurb 24hrs and I've found that all the cars have the same range and look to the high beams (lo beams for the 908 are the high beams on everything else) but the 908 look a lilltle brighter and seem to go a little wider. plus they flash when you program your wheel to do it DFGT for me and button editor in options menu). I think the high beams on the 908 are scanners or infra red!!!!!! that's it.

They aren't that bad in my opinion but it seems like the newer cars would have better headlights.

i just checked and the 787 is the same as all the other cars yellow orange headlights that look as if you are inspecting the abyss with a nightlight. the 908 is wider and whiter.
and as of right now Polyphony has done away with the lo beams on this car. cause they don't have em at all and yesterday they did. still flashes though and i love that.

the 787 doesn't flash. but buy it anyway wtf have you got to loose? it's not like you'll never reach that 20,000,000 credit limit
