same thing happened to me, 1st time it said data was corrupt, and the 2nd time it freezes while loading, I havnt been using and cheat devices and im sure i dont turn it off tell everything is saved. Is there anyways to fix this problem:S

Can someone tell me just what I can do to back up my card? I have an extra memory card-
Should I remove one and put the other in, then save?

I heard some people had some kind of cards that they plugged into their computer
could someone give me a link so i could see what i got to buy to save my data?

Are you guys using Autosave where it saves at every part of the game like exiting races ect. ??
cause maybe (duno for sure) but it might be using the memory card too much and its not able to cope with all the usage, ive turned it off and mine is fine at the moment, also can someone confirm this has happend with the PAL version or is it just US and OR Japanese/CHINA??

This is a blow, if mine corrupts i will be very pi***d about it. Im sorry it has happend to you guys i really feel ur pain. Group hug. ;)

i am sure that incognito, who has the problem, has the PAL version.

nothing really. But you have to have the software to interface with it, and I assume that their software checks to be sure you have their usb device. In theory, you could write your own code to interface with the ps2 and the usb device, but i'd rather just spend the 28 bucks on this device.

Dont use the max drive usb "dongle/thumb drive/usb flash drive" whatever you want to call it. This little S.O.B drive corrupted my save file for every single game save on my memory card including GT4 which i was at 30%. My memory card was an official Sony 8mb, it was practically full to the brim. Now not only am I out 25$ for a MC I also have to spend 25$ for a new MC. Then you must factor in the time you spent playing the games :ouch: If you buy this device make you are able to format MC's if your MC becomes corrupt. This product would be great if it worked properly. If you do a google search for "Max Drive Evo Corrupted" you will find loads of threads and info about how this device corrupts memory cards! :dunce:

ima little worried, dos it corrupt the mem card all 2gether or just gt4?

It corrupted the whole memory card, I only had about 500kb left on the card after the corruption. Even that small amount of space became unusable. I dont know why Sony didnt implement a reformat memory card option in the systems browser menu. I guess this is just one way they garunteed themselves a small fortune due to corrupt cards. If you ask me its just rediculous :scared:

I'm just wondering, does everyone who are getting this problem have autosave turned on? I turned mine off and it hasnt happened to this point (knock on wood). But maybe the issue is the autosave hammers the card too much.

i have autoturned off becuase i dont like waiting and i want to beat the game with 100%win ratio. better not corrupt or i will scream and not be on for a long time :ouch:

My friend told me the other morning that his GT4 save was corrupt. He was pretty pissed as anyone would be in such a situation. He did however tell me that he was using some kind of cheapo Dick Smith Electronics brand USB flash drive to transfer his photos. We got the game on the same day and we had the same completion percentage 15% at the time. I however used a Micro Vault to transfer the pics. It seems that any flash drive brand other than a Sony will screw you over.

what a load of rubbish. the ps2 only even DETECTS the usb thumb drive when you click ok to save a photo to it

i agree with rman99, i don't think memory cards are supposed to be accessed every few minutes with such a large save file. i turned autosave off the first day i got the game.

I'm reading the cause of this problem is due to the fact that people turn off the PS2 while it's saving. I'm not that stupid do something like THAT.

so if there would be a good usb flash drive to recommend which one would it be?
a sony?
any specific model?

anything, for the usage a ps2 gives it, they're all the same. "sony (r) reccommends sony (r) microvault (tm) (c)" because sony (r) wants to make more money from you

yes smartass, but don't feel too safe, because it has nothing to do with this.

Just a note:
If you are using Max Drive you must have a second memory card to backup your GT4 game save(replays&photos..) because it can easily get corrupted. If your MC get's corrupted insert Max Drive CD and go to devices and on to memory card, then press square button to format your memory card.It should work then! 👍

question:
is it possible to save your save file directly to ur USB Flash instead of on your memory card and then just copy the file on your computer as a back up, and if it ****s up, just format ur USB Flash and put the back up file on it, then just go on from where it ****** up?

This is a good heads-up thread but it needs to be more constructive and detailed, not just "my card is kaput". I heard on other games if you shut off the PS2 right after you save it, it could possibly corrupt your memory card. Not sayin' this is the problem and everyone should go paranoid but it's an idea.

Yep, it just happened to me too :ouch: I have read this thread weeks ago, and I am aware of the possible problem so I decided to buy another 8 mb card for backup. However, I am too late!

Because I know the kind of problems other people were having, I was careful not to turn off the PS2 during auto-saves or do anything fancy like swapping memory card. In fact, I haven't done anything unusual with GT4. I only have one memory card and it was in slot 1 the whole time. I do not use any cheat device, and have not cheated in anyway.

Suddenly, it just failed. I can still see my data in the browser, and see the date and time of the last save. However, GT4 won't load it. I get the message "Load failed! Do you wish to retry?"

Oh well, I was at 30% with 16,000,000 cr. I don't think I want to restart all over. Maybe I'll buy a Gameshark or some other cheat device to open everything. This sucks :guilty:

im curious to know how many of you whom have experienced problems were using the autosave function, and how many of you are using the new *slim* playstation or are using the old one. I have had absolutely no problems, whether it be corrupt data or losing all the cars in my garage... game mysteriously ceasing to work... ect... i am using New PS2 *slim*, new MemCard, autosave on "restricted"...

I had this wonderful experience as well. I had just barely been playing the game so I really didn't lose much. I never turned off the PS2 during autosaves or regular saving procedures and because I'm anal I always back out to the main menu before shutting the game down. I turned on the game less than a week after playing it and I was greeted with the message that my GT4 save was corrupted and no matter what I tried I couldn't get in. My memory card isn't corrupted because (as much as I didn't want to) I deleted my GT4 saves from the browser and started a new profile in the game. I was then able to read my GT3 saves and snag the licenses and $100k again... so obviously my GT3 saves were still intact. However, I did notice that shortly after plugging in my USB thumb drive into the PS2 (bought it specifically for the game for photo mode) this issue happened. I wonder if it was just a coincidence?? Regardless, I'd really like to avoid losing it all again since I've now got all golds in the A license and real close to the same for the B license. I would go nuts if I lost all those hours of work!

So it seems there are 2 things in common with most people getting corrupted data:

1.) Having the autosave feature on
2.) Using some type of flash drive for photos

So for everyone else, we need to learn and save ourselves this hassle. Turn off autosave because that kind of constant accessing of the memcard is detrimental to the data. These memory cards were not initially designed for a constant writing; they are just storage and not a hard disk. Also, dont try to use a flash drive for pics. For some reason when the flash acceses the GT4 data on the card to copy the picture it must corrupt something in some way. At least thats what I can conclude. Since the beginning I have had autosave off and I dont care about photos so hopefully I am safe (knock on wood) and others will be too.
