Just a little update from the thread starter. Using GT3 File Manager does let you delete the corrupted files. However, it will only deletes game saves. When you look at the card with the PS2 Brower, it still has corrupted PS2 OS icon thingys. When you try to delete those it say "Failed".

So I back to a semi-usable card, with the only way to really fix the problem is a reformat. It's frustrating, as I'm an Electrical Engineer and I know it is just a few simple commands to the flash device and it would be reformated. Maybe I'll crack it open and see what flash device Sony used.

By the way, when it did get corrupted, I had Auto Save ON. It is now turned OFF in my new GT4 save, and so far no problems.

It sucks, sucks, sucks, there is not a easier way to reformat a card.

FFS, YOU HAVE NO IDEA,

All MY MEM HAS JUST BEEN CORRUPTED.

360Kb available, all other slots are blue , and cannot be deleted,
This is a royal Piss Take, Cannot Belive This Happend, Yeah ok Gt4 Bu the whole card,

Anyone who says it user stupidity go to hell, i was perfect with mine and now this.
YOU HAVE NO idea How Mad i Am

I cant believe this I just turned my PS2 on and have the same problem. This is so frustrating because I havent used any cheat methods and I am always careful to make sure it is not autosaving. Piece of **** I cant believe this.

About this memory card corruption, is it likely that it will happen on the new slim PS2's?

Also, is it possible to copy all of your GT4 data on a USB stick, or is it only for photomode?

Thanks,

I have a Slim Ps2 and it just happened to me - I was 45% through, and had 5 million. I used no cheats or anything...

Im so sad I dont even want to turn my Ps2 on now :(

Sony, Are kniving Little ***** they Dont Include a flashing option intentionally, and charge you 20 quid for 8megs 👎

TURN Auto Save off, trust me

K-Speed Hows About that Hug man

I haven't had any corruption yet, but I did notice that while I was B-Specing a race that I'd lost my sound. I turned the Auto-saved feature off a while ago because I like to control my saves. Guess I really doesn't matter cause you're stuck with a car regardless of not saving before you shut your system down. I can remember on GT2 that if you changed your mind on a car after you bought it, that as long as you didn't save it, you'd get your credits back. As far as the "bug" issue, didn't we have similar problems with GT2? I mean, this game was delayed for more than a couple years, and we still have random corruptions to look forward to down the road?

Another factor to consider in trying to determine the cause of this problem is the card itself. These cards are flash memory cards and they most likely have firmware that controls the flash interface. In the past I have seen SD cards that had corruption problems, and someone on a forum started tracking the cards. It turned out that the problem occured on a specific manufacturers card and with a specific version of the firmware that had a timing problem.

At this point it is hard to say, the game could be at fault, or the game could just be more likely to expose a hardware timing problem. Flash memory does have a limited life span, so turning off the auto save feature is reasonable. I believe the newest flash chips can be erased and written 100,000 times, but I have seen older chips that were only rated for 1000 cycles. It would be interesting to know if anyone who had this problem and started over is using the same card, and how it is holding up.

My 2 cents,
Mike.

It sucks, sucks, sucks, there is not a easier way to reformat a card.
Especially since they do have a reformat program in their PS2 Browser software.
When I insert a brand-new card, never used before, in the browser, it detects the fact it is not formatted and asks me if I want to format it now, does so if I select "yes".

So all they're missing is the interface to let you select this option for an already formatted card. (True, this is something you don't want to make easy for people to do by mistake, but...)

That means it can't read the disc. This has only happened to me once, I took the disc out and had a look. It was still brand new as I hadn't taken it out. So I blew into the drive bay and then prodded the disc tray back in and viola! it loaded :) Obviously this won't work for everyone, infact maybe I just got lucky.

Not sure what happened to my memory card. I have a GT4 game save on it (along with other game saves), and it works fine. However, I wanted to reset from scratch as I just got the DFP. Went to System Browser to delete my GT4 data, only to find out that the PS2 says the card has corrupted data on it, and it locks up the PS2. I can't delete any files, always locks up when reading in the game saves. The card wasn't corrupted before playing GT4, and thats all that has been played since I got GT4. And no, I didn't pull out the card or shut down the PS2 while the little red memory card symbol was flashing on the screen.

hi , no response for reformat mc but i got the same problem of corrupted data this evening. i just finished licenses this morning.... the only way I think to do, poor french I am, is to buy another MC and save on both, alternatively, each day or week......

There is a memory adapter that will allow you to transfer all your game files to flash cards or your hard drive. You simply insert your memory card into it.

Just wondering I never use AR Maxdrive or anything liek that, but can it retrieve the lost data for GT4 or is it to late and I will just have to start all over?

I've formated my MC using max drive and it works now!

Im guessing that this person use AR Maxdrive and got there Data back but can someone tell me if this is true before I go out and buy this just get my data back. Really hate to have to start over when I was at 90% and had every car I wanted and all them hook up. Thanks.

My game corrupted on Sunday morning. I have a silver PS2, I had autosave turned on, and I used photo mode once, just after I had the game. A saved a couple of crappy pictures to a SD card reader and that was it. I always go back to the menu before turning off, and never when its saving or loading. I've never used a max drive or anything like that, just standard memory cards. Next time I play, I'm turning Autosave off!

I'm in UK using the PAL game, and I think just the GT4 game was corrupted. A saved replay was still there.

So my question, is there any way to reformat the memory card? Is there a way, using the PS2, to reformat the card? I sure can't find it!!!

Do you have GT3? Load it up and try the systemmanager available in there.

Im scared to even turn my PS2 on now. I have an older, ie large, ps2 and have autosave one.
I have a question, slightly off topic but maybe not.
Which is the best cheat, ps2-pc card thingie?
I'd like to be able to load replays into my pc, as well as back up saved games.
I dont want to have to pay $200 nor do I want some bit of plastic junk thats gonna screw up my gear.

chinny, I use the AR Max for PS2 and my own USB memory stick. It costs $25 here in America. In Australia, expect $30 or so. It is a game hacking device, but it has a lot of good features on it. It might mess up your game if you use the codes, but I've used the codes for my other games, and they aren't messed up. What I do is transfer the stuff on the memory card to the USB stick via AR MAX, then transfer the stuff the stuff onto the computer.

Also, in the options menu, you can turn off the autosave to restricted, which only saves when you change cars. That means you have to save after you do a race to keep the results.

Just lost everything, memory card corrupt. Had auto save on, never used photo mode. Am I totally out of luck? Good thing I wasn't requested to submit a replay for WRS 4.

i hope i dont get this problem! im at 33% (where most are going) with autosave off, and an '02 (IIRC) Ps2 and '02 memory card. since people have said turning off right after the save can mess it up, im gonna quit to the menu then say, retire a race, then turn off :)

as for flash memory. creative muvo 64MB. not harmed my ps2 once

60% finished, 200+ cars, 10 000 a-spec kilometerers--- Now game data is corrupted.
A lot of fun! I only used like 100 hours of solid A-Speccing to get this far, and now it's all gone. I just pressed the reset button a split-second too early on the GT world map window when the game was saving after a race.

Is there any way to fix broken game save files? Like copying to another memory card or something? If not, can I even use this corrupted save game to move cars / credits between memory cards?

I too had my game corrupted (hit reset about 1/2 second too soon!)
I have tried to copy a friends game over but all i got was his licences and all the races that he had already completed but only the car that was currently selected.

Is there any way to copy over the licences only so that i can play the game myself to win the cars. Its annoying that my percentage is now 33.4% (from ~ 24% before data loss) but i dont have any of the cars to show for it.

Any ideas??

I just want to reset the races and status so i can play it my way and win the cars i want!

please help!

I lost my game some weeks ago, found the thread about turning autosave to "Restricted" and started over. After every session, I reset the PS2, make sure the game loads, then reset again with the tray open, go into the browser and copy the game save to memory card 2. And once a week or so I copy it to my PC with my Sharkport.
You can't reset parts of the game, i.e. races but not licenses. All you can do is start over by deleting the game file. If the card itself is corrupted rather than just the game file, you might not be able to delete it. As far as I know, chuck the card.

As for why copying a friend's save gets you his progress but not his cars, I don't understand that at all.

happened after abt 25% to me....learned my lesson....having autosave on and make copy to another memory card after longer races/completing missions when I finish playing....

I just hope that never happens to me. Or I would be about crying.
