I'm currently a member of another forum that has nothing to do with GT. But they're lacking in moderators and very stubborn in believing that they do not need any new moderators. Yet they actually do. They're one of the largest sites of their kind and deal with a huge amount of threats towards the members, such as virus's, troll's, etc. [yes I consider trolls to be a valid threat.] I need to show them how their site can be improved with a larger moderation staff than what they have currently.

Can any of the moderators here explain why more is better? At the moment there are 4 Moderators and the Site owner. They are in charge of 15000+ members.

Well, we definitely try to have enough mods on that we have more than one at any given time. We make a conscious effort to spread the staff across the time zones so that we have coverage at all times the forums are active. And it's like the graffiti syndrome - if you clean it up right away, it helps prevent the problem from getting out of control.

Unless the site's leader acknowledges these sorts of things are a problem, I don't think more moderators will help. You'll first need to convince him such issues seriously impact the long-term sustainability of the community and may even kill it altogether if he doesn't confront what is happening. Of course, if he wants to run a site like that or simply doesn't care, that's his prerogative. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to launch your own competing site?

Well luckily I managed to get through to the Admin that has the ability to give that kind of power out. Not the Site Owner but good enough. I made a huge stink about and got a pretty nice chunk of the community agreeing that they wanted more staff. Talks are in the work and they're currently taking suggestions from the community as to who could possibly take on the task of being a new moderator.
