I did a search but couldn't find anything so apologies if it's been asked before.

I run without ABS all the time now but does this lose me time. I.e. is ABS faster than no ABS?

Thanks in advance for the replies. 👍

ABS set to 1 is fastest. Full Brake power without locking up and skidding.

Having ABS set off is great fun, but takes extra concentration and skill, and even if practised, will slow you down compared to ABS set to 1.

In real life, ABS makes you able to brake and steer at the same time, without sliding out too much. I prefer ABS to 1-3 depending on the car.

Yes i think so too because it's the ABS who let you get your whole breaking power

Having ABS off doesn't affect my lap times. Without ABS I find I can guide the car more easily into corners and be able to squeeze a little bit more braking force out of it.

If you can run ABS 0 and your times are better than with ABS 1... Use ABS 0.
I do try racing with ABS 0 (DFGT, DS3). With the wheel I'm slower, with the DS3 I'm slower. With other cars.
Now, in time trial, i have only really tried ABS 0 with a DS3.
The lap time difference was 0.1XX to 0.03X. I could get the same times on average.
I don't use full bakes with ABS 1, It's actually slower, 1 second a lap, depending on the track/car.
Note: This was before SPEC 2.
I just drive like I have ABS OFF, when I have ABS ON.
Seems to be the best of both world for me.

I tried a 50 lap enduro with ABS 5 as an experiment and I can confirm that on 5 you will be 4 seconds slower on Spa but you can get around 22 laps out of tyres (I pit on 18 but there was maybe 20% tyres left.

I run ABS on cars that have it in real life, and no ABS for those that don't. One thing I have noticed is that with ABS off, cars seem much more prone to locking the rears on downshifting. It's almost as if all locking of tyres is stopped with ABS on.

Try it with a fast car braking for the final chicane at Spa and you'll see what I mean. Even if you aren't locking the brakes if you are a bit too aggressive with your downshifting you will compression lock the rears and lose the rear end.

also consider that abs is the second or third most assisting... assist of the game, behind SRF and TC.

not only there are hidden stability assists if you use it, which has been discussed thoroughly on this forum, but consider this: braking is the most important part in racing.

If you turn abs on you're missing a lot, especially if you are considering trying more competitive and advanced games/simulators than gt5, or real life racing. In both abs is rarely allowed, and even then you'll end up locking the tyres if you brake like in gt5 with abs 1. Besides, on those 2 cases it's faster and more consistent to break without it.

Of course if you disable abs you'll need to tweak the brake balance, but you can do that on the fly, and this is assuming that you have a wheel. The ds3 has hidden assists as well, and its buttons/triggers aren't the greatest to have total control.

and about lap times in gt5, I'd say it's not conclusive. Check the time trials times: some top10/20 people use it and others don't.

True, but that is when it is on 1 which has apparently no impact on lap times.

I tried ABS on 5 to see the difference it made on lap times and tyre wear. I have been running Spa for weeks, racing almost nothing else, in preperation for this race which was using a stock Ferrari California.

My laps have been consistently around 2:44.xx (yes I know it is not that fast but I don't race 24/7 either) and with ABS on 5 my fastest lap was a 2:47.11 with most laps around the 2:48-2:50. Given my testing and experience in the race I can honestly tell you that ABS on 5 will absolutely have an effect on your times, go and try it and you will see what I mean

Amen.

Yep I've noticed that too. It happens into Mulsanne as well which means I often brake a bit earlier. But I think that 's also to do with braking through the kink before the turn. 👍

Thanks for all the replies guys. From what everyone is saying I can gather that having ABS on zero won't necessarily lose me time, i.e. if I have a clean run with both the lap times will be very similar but using no ABS is riskier.

Its strange, but I found lately that after setting laptimes at Spa with ABS turned off, when I tried to beat them with ABS on (thinking I would go faster easily) I was unable to do so. It seems that since the 2.0 update, on many cars ABS off is faster.

I will say though, it seems impossible to get some cars to not lock the rears up, even my faster laps I had issues with the rears locking up very easily (no matter how low I set the rear bias). Brake bias and brake pressure in the game should be more adjustable (and seperately adjusted), to try to get a less crazy result.

Lol 👎

Anyway, depends how you drive, how hard. Personally if the car has ABS in real life I'll just leave it alone, doesn't really bother me. But if the car doesn't have ABS in real life, older cars or race cars then it's turned off. You don't need ABS on a race car anyway if it has race tyres.
