He's only half way around the track, that thing will spew parts everywhere.

Is it just me, or is Max often flashing his headlamps behind somebody competing for position even if there’re no cars to be lapped ahead? I swear he’s flashing more often than other front-runners.

Yes, he has been doing it since he started in GT3, and it bugs the hell out of me.

I don't like drivers doing it to distract a driver when racing for position, particularly at night. But during the day it's just dumb 😅
 
The BMW GT3 looked huuuge compared to that old 3 series
 
First drive done, if Max wanted to make an impression he certainly did. Might need to hone some parts in but fair play to him.
 
That’s a cute taxi rooflight decal on one of those 981 Caymans. :o Digging that foliage camo livery on the #67 Mustang too, I’ve always thought that military camo liveries are a good match on muscle cars like Mustangs and Camaroes.

Also, #3 went from overtaking lead car to being 25 seconds in the lead in what, like 30 minutes? If there’s one thing I’m not doubting about Max, it’s definitely his pace. :boggled:

EDIT: Whoaaaa, that’s a spin & crash & dicey U-turn by Estre. :eek:

EDIT^2: Is that gonna be a retirement for the Grello Porsche?

A grello representative said it was probably oil on the track. Would check out because I doubt Estre would spin out like that and a second car spun out just behind him.

EDIT: Yeah it was oil. Huge bummer.

i found a stream in Japanese on youtube so who knows how long this is going to last. they just showed a replay of Estres crash and that had to be oil. he would never lose it like that

So far, we've had 5 major retirements:

  • The #75 Max Krause Audi R8 GT3 had a puncture which led to the car hitting the barriers right before Schwenkreuz early in the race.
  • The #16 Scherer Audi R8 GT3 accidentally rear-ended the KCMG AMG GT3 coming out of a slow-zone due to some flag-related shenanigans from the marshalls, which resulted in the Front-Left suspension being destroyed.
  • The #45 Ferrari 296 GT3 (which was also the only Ferrari in the race) dipped 2 wheels into the grass on the outside of Hatzenbach while trying to overtake slower traffic. The driver lost control and hit the barriers, destroying the front of the car.
  • The #911 Manthey Racing Grello Porsche spun out after hitting some oil on the track (which Manthey confirmed a few moments ago). The rear of the car hit the barriers at a pretty good speed, and despite Kevin Estre's attempt to drive it back to the pits, the car was stopped and had to be towed back to the garage.
  • The #64 Mustang GT3 Evo had an off at the same spot as Estre (literally within 1 minute of each other), likely also due to fluid on the track. The car hit the barriers, and destroyed its front end.
Also, the #130 Huracan got hit with a 32-second penalty for a "jump start" (they ended up beating the Red Bull-Abt Huracan to the start line).

Despite all that, and the sad retirement of the Grello Porsche (a lot of folks were looking forward to the chance of a Max vs. Kevin battle), it's still been a good race with a lot of action. As it stands, any of the Top-6, which includes the M4 Touring Wagon, have a solid chance of winning imo.
