The BMW M3 Touring is a revelation - a real shame it has a 45s penalty hanging over it, but hopefully they can take the penalty when it will have the least effect. Even with the penalty, whoever, they might well have a shot at this.

Both Winward Mercs pit for wet tyres as Drudi goes wide right at the start of a new lap...

Misha Charoudin has spun the #632, but thankfully right before the pit entry - though that will have cost a big chunk of time. I guess he'll be on wets too now...

#34 Aston Martin runs very wide in T1. Sound like rain is really starting to be a factor.

Both of the leading Mercs are in the pits.

Edit: The YouTuber Porsche has a spin right before the pits!

M4 Touring looks a bit OP right now…

EDIT: People putting on inters now. Rain picking up just as the night falls. Lovely.

Marshalls made a mistake, double yellow, green, Code 60, #16 just ran into back of KCMG not expecting 160 to 60 km/h slow down

So far, we've had 5 major retirements:

  • The #75 Max Krause Audi R8 GT3 had a puncture which led to the car hitting the barriers right before Schwenkreuz early in the race.
  • The #16 Scherer Audi R8 GT3 rear-ended the KCMG AMG GT3 coming out of a slow-zone, which resulted in the Front-Left suspension being destroyed.
  • The #45 Ferrari 296 GT3 (which was also the only Ferrari in the race) dipped 2 wheels into the grass on the outside of Hatzenbach while trying to overtake slower traffic. The driver lost control and hit the barriers, destroying the front of the car.
  • The #911 Manthey Racing Grello Porsche spun out after hitting some oil on the track (which Manthey confirmed a few moments ago). The rear of the car hit the barriers at a pretty good speed, and despite Kevin Estre's attempt to drive it back to the pits, the car was stopped and had to be towed back to the garage.
  • The #64 Mustang GT3 Evo had an off at the same spot as Estre (literally within 1 minute of each other), likely also due to fluid on the track. The car hit the barriers, and destroyed its front end.
Despite all that, and the sad retirement of the Grello Porsche (a lot of folks were looking forward to the chance of a Max vs. Kevin battle), it's still been a good race with a lot of action. As it stands, any of the Top-6, which includes the M4 Touring Wagon, have a solid chance of winning imo.

Seems like it’s been a pretty chaotic race so far, especially with all those incidents in the more tricky parts of the track. I just saw the replay - Estre’s retirement was definitely a tough one to watch.

Still, like you said, it’s far from over. With how things are going, the Top 6 all seem properly in the mix, at least.

I’m curious to see how strategy and traffic play out in the next phase of the race, especially if it starts raining.
 
The #320 Porsche Cup 2 car runs wide at Aremberg - not particularly interesting in itself, but it does reveal them as the culprit that put the oil down that took out Grello and the #64 Mustang...

The lead car of Mattia Drudi were very unlucky with the timing of the rain - everyone behind them has pitted for inters and it has cost them a tonne of time, and doubtless has cost them the lead.
 
Watching the race on a live stream with chat, I expected to read comments from people who didn't understand much about endurance racing and who mostly talked about Verstappen. It's much worse than I could have imagined. lol

First commenting on him only, then do not understand why they show other cars, don't understand why he isn't the only one in the car, then trashing and sending slurs at his teammates and everyone else at will.

What a wonderful audience!
 
The #51 M3 Touring, #34 Aston Martin, #33 Audi R8 and #44 Porsche 911 have all gone off at the same spot as Grello in the last minute.... 😳
 
Seems like the RACER app is taking over motorsports broadcasting, because yet again I am missing a race by not paying for their subscription service.

The SRO proving once again why they are superior, streaming all of their races for free on YouTube.
 
Chucking it down with rain but an amazing sunset in the background. Great scenes on the live coverage, getting me even more excited to attend Le Mans in a few weeks time. Hope it doesnt rain as much though :lol:

How there hasnt been any big shunts during this last downpour I dont know. Great driving out there by all.

Most of these probably started watching F1 because of Drive To Survive.
 
M3 Touring might have a problem. Sounds like De Phillipi is lifting around a good bit of the track. It's last lap was also well over 10 minutes long.

Edit: And it just entered the pits.

Btw. this was around 5 pm local in Maxs first stint but I didn't saw anything from race control? Clearly overtaking under yellow...

The slower car hit the breaks to let Max through - which it should not have done - Max gave the place back and took it again under green. All good.
 
Apparently one of the drivers of the #658 BMW M240i has been disqualified, so now that team only has 2 drivers for the remainder of the race.
