i had the comic, it was on another planet and the lead role was an asian woman. there isnt anything remotely similar in any of the 2 avp movies.

Using the pulse rifle isn't getting old. I had hoped to start trying out some of the other good weapons in the game, but no...still happy with that sound :)

I actually like the second AvP film. I don't think they ever intended to be that true to any of the comics, as they were building their own links, such as the inception of Wayland-Yutani. Plus, directors and producers always want to do their own thing with the source material - it's pretty much always been that way.

Worth watching this. No wonder I and others were fooled. This is disgraceful!

Forgot to mention, I think there are 1 or two uses of bad language in this video.

Already posted on the previous page.

There will doubtless be more backlash films soon as the game hit the number one spot in both the UK and US game charts a few days ago.

Whoops didn't see that, only got the email from eurogamer with it today!

But the point still stands. A developer should not advertise something that isn't coming out. It's false advertisement. Its illegal.

Insiders are pretty much stating Gearbox took all the funds from this deal with Sega, to fund their Borderlands projects.

Even took people off the Aliens project for that game, while outsourcing the majority of the work to several less capable studios (like Timegate).

If only they delivered on the many promises from the media push, and the incredible demo video from E3;

The graphics are subpar at best, the AI is incredibly stupid. Half Life 1's AI is better than this crap. The game is plagued with clipping, and tons of other issues. Ugh.

As a diehard Aliens fan, this one really hurt. I was looking forward to this one.

;_;

Well PC modders are working on making it better game.

No there is lot more than that. For start they fixing .ini files that are broken, and many other things also stated to be repaired. But this takes time so we won't see it for some time

Yeah, I know, I was being facetious (I think, I still don't know exactly what that entails). The fake DX10 mod is what's gaining the most attention, though. Still, even if it was real, the graphics are probably the least of their concerns, they'd have to make the AI properly deadly and I'm not sure modders can do that. I can't recall seeing many AI mods for other games, anyway.

AS for AI i think you are right, only Sega might do something about it fixing and releasing patch for it.

Among the worst games I've ever played, including Conflict: Denied Ops. Glad I rented it instead of paying full price for this piece of trash.

The before and after videos sum up well what a poor job they did and my initial thoughts on viewing the final release and how its lights years away from a decent representation. The early version is some way there to being decent. How some gamers couldn't see it is probably even more sadder than the turn out of the game.

I knew how bad it was before I rented it, I just wanted to see for myself. The graphics aren't as bad as people made them out to be and the level design is pretty good. However, the aliens and human enemies are very buggy, resulting in enemies that won't die or some that die in one shot. The controls aren't very good either. For 7 dollars, it was a waste of money lol. I feel bad for the people that paid 60 bucks for it.

Why? I'm speaking as a person who paid full price for it now, but I still enjoy the game. True, it could have been better (regarding the truth and Gearbox's mishandling of the game production) but there is as you say still quite a lot of right about the game.

When (and if) it's patched, the game will only be better. If they don't patch it, then Gearbox will have made public fools of themselves who folks and games producers will be less likely to trust - simple as.

And in the end, we all live and learn, eh? :sly:

I have only bought and played through two Gearbox games: Borderlands and Borderlands 2. I haven't played Borderlands 2 in about a month because I was hoping to finish up remaining quests once the level cap increase was implemented. Based on recent comments by Randy Pitchford, this might not ever happen.

I know that a lot of avid, hard core fans of the Aliens game series are quite upset with Pitchford because of how Colonial Marines turned out, and I understand that he has even taken to blocking or out right banning people from his twitter account for posting what he terms as insults, threats, and extreme rudeness. I have seen many links to the following videos on various different sites, and I really like the first one because of the back ground music.

Colonial Marines is worse. Alien Resurrection at least was hard good game with good climate. Colonial Marines has it's own climate/atmosphere too but times had changed expectations has changed.

Interesting that another studio is the one doing this. I know that tends to happen for specialist versions of games, like with Portal 2 using the Move.

I hope that they can get past whatever it is blocking them - we might even get a far better game eventually.

Probably for the best. At this point the horrendous reception would have sunk it anyway since it was set to come out after the original release.

Sega and Gearbox respond to Aliens: Colonial Marines lawsuit

Sego
Sega cannot comment on specifics of ongoing litigation, but we are confident that the lawsuit is without merit and we will defend it vigorously.

Gearbox
Attempting to wring a class action lawsuit out of a demonstration is beyond meritless. We continue to support the game, and will defend the rights of entertainers to share their works-in-progress without fear of frivolous litigation.

"Works-in-progress" pretty much says it all. Would've been nice if they'd been clearer that they were charging full retail price for a beta for everyone to test for them rather than an actual release, though that still doesn't narrow the chasm between the E3 demo and what was delivered. Work in progress or not, A:CM will never look that good.

And going back to your previous comment; the Alien franchise (the films, I mean) was practically already a videogame, I really don't understand how AvP2 back in the early 2000's is still the best Alien game there is! It was the same with Batman until Arkham Asylum, I don't think there's ever been a worthwhile Terminator game, the recent Transformers and Spider Man games were supposed to be alright but up until those releases they haven't been great... How do developers keep screwing up such rich source material?

I've said something about this elsewhere, or possibly on another thread here. Devs who make games based on films or TV series quite often have a problem with funding. The copyright holder's lawyers often demand such a high fee for using the source material that very little gets left over for game development.

Okay, that is more true for the older Spiderman games and others you mention Neema, as I got the impression that A:CM had a lot more free-reign than other devs tackling a film to game effort.

I recently bought the Limited Edition Aliens CM - PS3 :) Pretty happy with it, I had to tinker a bit with my TV to get the best visual. My TV was calibrated for movie ( BR ), so played the game in movie mode, warm 2 ( surprisingly looks much more like a movie than a game ). In game settings ( brightness ) is very tricky to get right, the default value is USELESS, as the cinematics and in game levels of brightness is different. I used the cinematics ( opening ) as base line, which I have to setup the TV brightness to 34, while all else the same ( setting for movie ).
The in game brightness have to use 5 click less than default value, I used the main menu sequence ( press start prompt ) of animation as reference, the end where the marines are about to go inside USS Sulaco, one of the soldier face is lit pretty bright. I setup the value to make his face look natural ( not overblown by the light ).

This gives very good balance between visibility, dark areas are correct and the total black is just perfect. The PS3 and TV uses full color range, so I will have to test again with limited on PS3 and low black level on TV ( usually for movie ).

For sound, DTS 5.1 with small speakers, I reduced dialog volume by about 6 to 8 click, while master, sound effect and music all on max. Crank up the AVR, and it sounds great - very similar to the movies, with loud gunfire, thumping bass, spine tingling sounds ( steps, hisses, screams etc ) and that  music, OMG :D Hollywood quality music, feels like Aliens music remade with more military vibe.

The gameplay visual is unlike the demo vs final video now, at least the good contrast/brightness/saturation/color temp, helped a lot to give more realistic atmosphere, except the lighting effects and the particles effects ( explosions ) looked dated / worse than the demo :grumpy: Why no patch to bring it to demo level visual setup :banghead:

I haven't patched the game yet, so it's vanilla version, the first mission goes smooth without any issues at all ( no glitches ) and frame rate is steady ( haven't seen any screen tearing yet ) - Ultimate Bad Ass difficulty.

The studio who Gearbox farmed the work out to has since stopped trading - there is nothing to say that Gearbox shouldn't man-up and do the work they were paid for instead.

Interesting approach to the lighting. I will have a look at changing things myself next time I play. I did not know that you can you go to Ultimate Badass first time around - good luck.

I read about Time Gate going out of business :( It's a shame how Gearbox and the outsource devs handle the development, a good team work between them and leadership would have at least brought a complete game with decent quality ( at least demo level graphical quality ) and a lot more consistent experience ( AI, physics and level designs )

Oh well, at least I still can enjoy the game. On my TV, the lower in game brightness gives much better looking xenos on dark rooms, they don't shine like plastic dolls :) I also tried with limited ( PS3 ) and low black ( TV ) - specific for movie, and it looks great as well - my TV brightness value can be from 34 to 36. Any higher than 36 and it's not pure black on darkest black, while some close to black detail can be clearer to view. It's a trade off, but I prefer darker atmosphere when playing, similar to how Dead Space ideally played.

I think the in game level engine gamma / brightness is a bit different than in cinematic ( which rendered in real time )

For ultimate bad ass, I always go for the hardest difficulty allowed on my 1st play :) It can be selected from fresh save / start. The xenos on 1st mission were aggressive, jumps at you when close, at times ( rare - only once or twice ) backs away when shot then attack again from different location. I haven't seen AI xenos doing silly stuff yet, all of them are like blood thirsty bat **** crazy animal , except the one that you encountered 1st time when releasing Keyes using the torch. That xeno managed to ran away, then I saw it crawling slowly, I creeped in from the side slowly while crouching, then it turned it's head to my direction and jumped at me  Killed it with up close and personal shotgun blast :D
