Andrea de Crasheris, from an era when people liked to make fun of drivers names (Hunt the Shunt; John Whatswrong, among others), was a 'don't give up' kind of guy, very fast as expected of anyone achieving F1 driver status, but witg a somewhat erratic driving where errors appeared frequently. In todays F1 of computers and purposedly bred kids he wouldnt survive the internet critics (although Maldonado keeps doing it).

I enjoyed seeing him race and his fighting spirit. And in Geoff Crammonds old GP games (1 and 2) he was usuallly the driver I picked to be. RIP Andrea.

His best race was with Jordan at Spa when Schumacher made his debut. He would have won it if the engine hadn't let him down. RIP Andrea. You were one of a kind.

I was surprised by how young he was. Rest in peace, an unusual legend.

DeCesaris gave me a big thrill one year at Long Beach when he qualified his incredible Alfa-Romeo V-12 on pole. His wheels gave off sparks as he clipped the walls on his heroic lap. He bridged the gap between madness and bravery like none other.

RIP Andrea. I will always remember you fighting for points in green 7UP Jordan, winning podium places in Dallara and Brabham BMW and many unfortunate retirements.

What a terrible, terrible shame, although de Cesaris' career was before my time, I thoroughly enjoyed watching him on the classic races. Pity he never really had the machinery!
