They do seem to be having a few serious quality control issues at the moment don't they. Perhaps whilst they're building more and more cars every year they are having to cut corners?

sure, just ask the fampedia, im sure he can tell you what caused your car to be written off

There have been a few Gallardo fires, too. If you look on youtube, there's a Gcar spyder that was on fire near San Jose, California.

Oh man, do I feel sorry for that VW driver. If that was me, I wouldn't be able to watch, i'd be too busy crying.

:(

I find it hard to feel sorry for the VW driver. I feel for his loss, it looks like a very nice car, but he kinda brought it on himself.
Performance modifications=greater chances of stuff like that.
I cannot believe you can spend thousands of dollars on modifications yet not keep a fire extinguisher somewhere in the car. There is always a chance of mechanical malfunctions, and with an extinguisher, the damage would have been minimal. It's not like it was sudden either, the popped the hood and basically just stared at the flames for quite a while...

I saw one of these the other day in Glasgow and I really like the diffuser on the rear. I'm not bothered that a few of them have gone up in flames. Some products are bound to be faulty, it's only because they're made on such a small scale and so 'exclusive' (though not so much any more since there are a lot more people who have lots of money and little taste (bit of a dig there, sorry)) that if one of them goes wrong it's immediately big news.

He did have a fire extinguisher, you can see him spraying the inside of the car. Also, I don't think they thought that the smoke would eventually turn into a fire. Usually when a car is off, it cools down. They probably figured the flames woudl just stop eventually. If they put water on it, the really fast transition from hot to hold can warp the metal, and I'm sure you don't want that to happen to your turbo.

Most people with nice cars have insurance, also after investigation if the fire was caused by a Ferrari design fault then Ferrari should be replacing it and making sure it doesnt happen again.

I forgot about that. Seems like he's going to get a new Ferrari F430 soon. Lucky guy.

I'd be more happy if the car didn't burnt so I didn't had to wait for a new Ferrari.. also I think it wouldn't feels like my car anymore..

and damn that VW is a beauty, but if you put water on an overheeted engine, most of the times it goes wrong. I think they didn't think that it would go up in flames.
