I listen to some, the most recent Jazz I have been listening to is N.E.W.S.

Yes i listen to quite a lot of jazz (in it's broadest sense). I also play a lot of jazz (saxomophone).

I listed to all kinds of stuff from classics like Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley, Herbie Hancock, Maynard Ferguson and James Taylor Quartet to newer groups which verge on dance/breakbeat like Jazzanova, Groove Collective, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Heritage Orchestra (great upcoming band) and 4Hero. I love a bit of Jill Scott to unwind.

I used to play in jazz band where we played all kinds of stuff from Glenn Miller to the Drifters; covering swing, bossa, funk etc. We toured Europe a few years back which was great fun and warmed the crowd up for Laurie Holloway's quartet (he's the guy that leads the band on Parkinson [british talk show]) which was a memorable experience.

Going to see James Taylor Quartet tomorrow night, it's gonna kick arse. Really small venue so going to get a great view of the band.

Recommended listening:

Miles Davis - Autumn Leaves
Cannonball Adderley - Mercy Mercy
Herbie Hancock - Chameleon
Maynard Ferguson - Birdland
James Taylor Quartet - Theme to Starsky and Hutch
Jazzanova - I'll get back with a good 'un
Groove Collective - Stargazer
Quantic Soul Orchestra - Hold It Down
Heritage Orchestra - Anything you can find
4Hero - Black Gold Of The Sun
Jill Scott - Golden

Hey! I like jazz, and I enjoyed Jaimie Cullum when he was on Austin City Limits.

But yeah, I listen to (and play) a bunch of jazz. I just finished a stint playing piano in a big band, and played bass and trombone in various large and small jazz bands.

My current favorite jazz group? The Groove Collective. They're so much fun to listen to.

I got a little worried when you mentioned Jaimie Cullum but you've redeemed yourself 10x over with Groove Collective :D:tup:

Did you ever make any recordings?

We made a pre tour CD which was a recording of us performing live. Quality was rubbish unfortunately, mics were very low quality. Shame really as it's the only recording i have of the band and of me soloing a gorgeous piece called "Samantha" by Sammy Nestico [recommended listening] :sly:

We also made a trip to London to recording backings for a track on an up and coming male solo artist's album, but he was too busy to bother sending us a copy of the final product :grumpy: He had a sweet house though, the whole of the downstairs was one big recording studio, all sound-proofed and speakered up with a lovely old grand piano in the corner :) Our pianist nearly died!

Hey, I like Jamie Cullum! :)

I assume he's a much bigger star in Europe than in America, right? I'd say most people haven't even heard of him over here.

I just looked at his website, and it seems he's constantly on the BBC. He's been on TV maybe 3 times in the US.

In the US, if you're listening to him, it's mostly because you chose to, not because he's light-music filler. :D

Can i introduce Jamiroquai to the conversation, early stuff only obviously to keep with the thread title so up to Synkronized.

I have Jamiroquai as part of my constant rotation collection on my PC and everytime i listen to their stuff i feel like i've gotta get down and boogie :D

yeah been listening to jazz since i was borne. force fed it by my dad since he's a musician.

can you guys give them some money lol.:)

I like Joe Pass and George Benson. I also like my collection of "Jazz Hits" but I'm not into Jazz all that much.

George Benson's song "Give Me the Night" is one of the best songs ever wriiten. Simple, yet complex, like all Jazz music, IMO. It's just fantastic! 👍

Yokko Kanno and most things done by David Chesky's label are brilliant.

I'll quote my post in the original jazz thread:

Wow, a jazz thread! Where do I begin...

Well Ev0, as far as saxaphone goes, IMO, Coltrane is as good as it gets. Remember that is just my opinion. Since I'm a guitarist, I mainly listen to guitar-based music. A quick glance at my library reveals my love for Django Reinhardt, Grant Green, Julian Lage (he is a fricken prodigy!), Wes Montgomery, Paulo Bellinati, Paco de Lucía, some John Scofield, the list keeps going...

Song Recommendations:

Django Reinhardt: Appel Indirect, Nuages
Grant Green: Besame Mucho, his cover of So What
Julian Lage (in Gary Burton's band): Walkin' in Music, Get Up And Go
Wes Montgomery: Four on Six, Bumpin' On Sunset
Paulo Bellinati: Debussyana, Gracioso
Paco de Lucía: Rio Ancho (the eleven minute version), La Flor De La Canela
John Scofield: Swinganova, A Go Go

Just my 2¢.

I must say that right now I'm very much into Curys Chestnut and James Carter. 👍 The album "soul food" is awesome. With Lewis Nash on drums. 👍

Just got back from the James Taylor Quartet gig and it was immense. Best gig i've seen in ages and considering i've seen London Elektricity and Tower Of Power in the last few months that's something. Well worth a watch if they're playing near you ever :)
