Any stores planning a midnight launch?

What's with the low number of pre-orders in Canada?...:grumpy:. I went to EB just last week to pre-order GT5 CE, and I looked at the receipt and it shows I was the 5th person to pre-order the CE. Made me a little sad as the store will most likely not have a midnight launch. 👎👎
 
I know right. I don't live in a hugley populated area but I do live in the local city with the racetrack. I figured there would be more than 12 preorders. Disappointed to say the least.

GAME in Lakeside, Essex is also having a midnight launch. Doubt i'll even bother though, I can wait a few more hours and get some sleep.
 
I asked the guy at my local Gamestop which is in the mall about this. He said they need a certain number of preorders to do a midnight release because they have to pay the mall a lot to keep it open late.

I imagine if the store has an outside entrance a midnight release is more likely.
 
Straight up ask them how many preorders they need (with enough they will do it). For EB games in Canada it's about 100.

I'll be checking this with my local EB Games as well. If it's 100, I'm sure they will have a midnight release then. They should hit it no problem.
 
I bought GT4 @ a gamestop which had a midnight launch.

Didn't even have a pre-order, but managed to snag one of only 3 or 4 extra copies they had...

Id venture to guess many gamestops will do the same for this release...
 
My local GameStop won't. They only do for big Micro$oft titles, shooters, and most sports games. They barely had enough preorders for Madden. (38).

I do have another GameStop I'll call and see what the chances are. It's gonna suck if I can't fund a midnight release. Unless I double up on sleepy pills, I ain't gittin no sleep Monday night! I didn't get any sleep the night before Prologue released. Just decided to stay up at 5 on the morning after tossing and turning all night!

I did confirm today that the street date is Tuesday.

I asked my local GameStop today when I picked up my copy of F1 2010 and they didn't seem to think they would.

I was rather shocked... They normally are pretty good about midnight releases for any big named title, but the managers (who I know fairly well) response? "Dude you've waited 5 years, you can't wait and extra 9 hours?"....some people just don't get it....

I am guessing however that some locations may shy away from it due to Black Ops being dropped a week later.... That's probably a lot more OT that GameStop just isn't willing to burn...and with the COD series having a bigger following, I'm sure it wins...

It's possible; but we're talking hours or days here, rather than a significant amount of time (and that's if an 'embargo' isn't placed on it - like it is for most major releases, and 'Move'!). The truth is I am at the bottom of the food-chain, but cautiously optimistic for an early sneak-peak!

Just called my local Gamestop which is located in downtown Nashville and they gave me a 95% chance. They said if anyone does it, then it will be them. They even had one for Fifa and Dead Rising. So.... yea I'll have some photos for all of you guys and a quick review when I get it. Just to help out my friends around the world. :)
 
I work at Gamestop and heard my District Manager say that pretty much any game that's street dated this year is going to have a Midnight Launch. I believe he said the only exceptions were Kirby Epic Yarn & Donkey Kong.
 
Im going to check with the gamestop in my area when I get a chance. They usually have midnight releases for any big title so hopefully GT5 wont be an exception.
 
Just called my local GameStop and the lady told me she is sure there will be a midnight launch at their store. No official confirmation, but she is almost 100% sure. :)

EDIT: By the way, the GameStop I called is in the Alafaya Town Center in Orlando, FL, 32828. :D

They have to reach a certain # of preorders apparently they don't have enough, which explains why I could never find any comp in my area. Still hoping but whatever ill have it the 2nd and that's all that matters

Did Gamestop try to bend you over? Just make sure to never trade in anything and when they try to pressure you into buying extra stuff, give them a nasty look like the one below.

Looks like the face I make when my friends beat me at Smash Bros.

The GameStop close to me says "No midnight launch unless we get 50 or more people." So far, they have 12.

Pretty much the same here. I may go to the one that's down the street from them and if things look better there I'll just move my pre order to that one lol.
 
No collectors edition at WalMart or the Target my wife works at. That means no thanks!

I actually 4 gamestops within a half hour to 45 min depending on traffic. My usual store said he most likely won't a few weeks ago. That was until they got one for Dead Rising 2. He has not gotten the list yet for the upcoming month, he's hoping GT5 gets it. Goldeneye and DC Online might help open the doors at midnight.

The other GameStop nearest, she's not sure but sees GameStop doing more midnight releases overall to boost sales to be competitive with 24 hour stores. The other 2 stores are right in the heart of Notre Dame's shopping area. Those 2 stores are 98% sure of a midnight release and often combine sales, as one of them is actually inside a mall.

So, we'll see what happens in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll transfer my preorder, maybe I won't.

I'm on the fence whether to change my reserve to midtown:tup:, or wait because that tuesday is election day. I dont have to work, and will be there first thing in the morning like new jordans came out.

Also i dont want to wait until 10 while employee's move around like I'm not waiting:scared:

I just found a gamestop in Fort Lee, NJ that's DEFINITELY doing a midnight opening. They're also still taking pre-orders for the Collector's Edition. I'm just gonna give the gamestop that's 2 minutes away from me 1 more week to tell me the word. If not, I'm going to Fort Lee. But the cops there suck so I'll need to be drive home s-l-o-w-l-y.
