I was thinking about buying a g27 to replace my g25, but realized it is getting long in the tooth and a new version must be on the horizon...any news on next version?

The only crumb we have is that the G series wheels are PC wheels that just happen to work on the PS, and they said they "are not exiting PC gaming" but it doesn't look good.

But then they bothered to do a whole new gen of G27's with new packaging, If they were just getting rid of the old stock surely this would not be the case. It maybe just optimism but the death of the G27 and logitech wheels might have been overstated.

New packaging for the G27 doesn't equate to a replacement wheel being designed. Packaging gets changed all the time when improvements to packaging are made, old suppliers go out of business or companies find a cheaper supplier.

During the entire lifetime of the G25 they never rebranded the packaging, and in fact the original G27 packaging was identical to the G25 one except with G27 photos. So actually a rebrand of the packaging for the first time since the original G25 came out in 2007 is quite a big deal :)

There's also talk (saw on ISR forum somewhere) that Logitech uprated the brake pedal spring in the rebranded G27. Not sure if true though.

To me it implies that Logitech is actively producing new G27 wheels even months after their announcement that they were stopping with console peripherals, which is a potential good sign for Logitech wanting to offer PS4 drivers going forwards. Whether it means they will create a G29 is a totally different subject of course :)

I suppose it depends on your viewpoint. As someone who works in manufacturing, to me it is very insignificant. I guess from a more consumer oriented viewpoint it could be different for others, but I have seen many products change packaging and nothing else. Most often it's either bean-counter (cost-oriented) or marketing department related (i.e. "let's change the package so people will think they're getting a new version.")

But hey I hope you're right. More versatility and competition in the market is always a good thing.

I think Logitech probably still dominates at the $299-ish price point so hard they haven't had a lot of reason to change things up. They have probably sold more G25/G27 wheels than the CSP, the T500 and the CSR Elite COMBINED.

If they released a "G29" at the current price point and it's not upgraded, people won't be happy, and if they do upgrade it it'll cost more and they will be out of their pricing zone. Sounds odd, but it makes sense, why mess with a good thing?

They still produce it because it's a PC wheel I think. The DFGT from what it seems, is still being produced as well and that one is technically a PS3 wheel.

Given the evidence though, I don't think they'll release a new wheel in the short to medium term. We're just a niche market, and the G27 is still performing very well after all these years like Gunstar mentioned.

I can't see much real reason to upgrade from G25 to a G27 unless the G25 is knackered. They are near enough the same wheel.
