Underwhelmed, disappointed, frustrated and getting a headache! Why is the tyre noise so loud? Hour after hour of high pitch tyre squeeling is the only way to hear the engine note. Turn down sound affects and you loose the engine sound. Why is not possible to access the options/sound menu whilst in a championship? Do the first race and think, have to change sound levels but you can't until you've done every race in the championship.
What is this fascination with using R1 and L1 to navigate pages in the menus? Steering wheels don't have them and isn't the GT series supposed to be a simulator?
Why, in car setup, when you adjust power or ballast does the related pp and/or power figures not update on the summary until after you've chosen a level? Such a waste of time guessing incorrectly several times before hitting the number you want.
Also, why in the summary does it not specify torque and power rpms? The graph is there as in GT5 but not the figures, so again you're left guesstimating. I doubt there is a motorsport team anywhere in the world that doesn't know the exact rpms for max power or torque, in order to make the most effective use of the gears. What are PD playing at? They have made gt6 worse than gt5.
There is something very wrong with the handling of some cars. I don't know if it's their new tyre model, all I do know is some cars do not behave in the way that they would in real life. On that subject how can a standard Bugatti Veyron out corner a lemans racer with full downforce with both cars on the same tyres? Take the Indy track as an example. It can't come even close in real life but in GT6 it can do it easily when under AI control! So AI? I think it's about the same as GT5. The cars do not appear to obey any kind of racing etiquette and will move about almost at random and push you off the track without the AI car being the slightest unsettled.
Why are there at least 27 Honda NSXs but no Audi A8/S8 the worlds first all aluminium production car, or BMW M1 or any number of cars with major technological achievements that influenced all future production? The NSX was famous for being a supercar that Granny can drive. Great so have one in the game, but so many duplicates? I have also noticed that information blurb about some cars is incorrect, but it was in GT5 also.I wont be specific on here in public but things like saying the car was developed from a previous model and employs an engine from whichever manufacturer but the model and manufacturer is completely wrong! I am fortunate enough to have owned some gran turismo gems in real life, work in the industry and race for real so I do know my stuff.
I have such a long list of grips with gt6 that I do not enjoy playing it. GT5 had issues but at least it was fun. I played it mercilessly for years and even use it to teach people to drive. Every one of my students has passed first time.
The one thing I can commend GT6 for is the slightly improved lobby where you can specify UK region. However, I miss the quick and simple shuffle race option.
Despite all the gripes I go ahead and play GT6 just to be rewarded by frame rate stutter and artifacts. I swear at one point on one of the new tracks the frame rate goes down to 12 or less frames per second.
It almost feels like the DMC Delorian. They took all the best bits of the mid engined turbo Lotus Esprit and discarded them to come up with a complete white elephant of an underpowered poor handling rear engined car. To me GT6 has done this with GT5. It's a real shame but it does seam that GT has had its day. I wont be rushing out to get the new PS4. I only have playstation for GT. I think I may finally give in and fire up Forza on the new Xbox.
