We know the camaro ss is premium. Seeing outlines does not equal "clearly". Though they could've just shared the interiors and since it is a new GT car.

If you look at the Standard cars, all you see is a BLACK silhouette and very dark interior. In the picture above, you can make out a 3D Steering wheel and dashboard.

Thats how standard cars look. You can't make anything out; not nearly like you can for the Camaro above. Which, btw, is the SS model.

That's right! I remember thinking 200 cars was a lot when I played that game, and Playing for 3 half years straight I didn't even get to drive all of them.

For those worried about the standard cars, don't surprised when PD offers them as DLC packs. I can see it now "Nissan Premium Pack".

And what would happen to the in-game standard models of the same cars?

This is actually a good suggestion, don't get me wrong. But it would be logical only, IMO, if the the game was released solely with the 200 premium cars (which is what I think it would be the right thing to do), and then gradually added by DLC packs.

yep I´m very happy with it!

If it were "only" 400 cars and all will premium people will whine that in GT4 were more cars...

Like they do it with the 20 tracks thing...

Here are some more all these are premium

See, it's funny. The exterior says premium, but the darkened interior says standard...

And if you think that the darkened interior might be due to lighting, go check out NASCAR shots - same background, same lighting, same angle - and you'll see the interior pretty clearly.

It's a mystery. We'll have to wait until the game's actually out to know for sure...

I was thinking the standard models can be replaced with premium ones. If PD could add stuff like they did with GT5P with the different Spec updates, I'm thinking GT5 could be scalable in the same way, no?

It's a premium car. Here's a pic of the same car, with proper lighting:

It's also easy to tell by the modeled, 3D panel gaps with the hood, doors, and headlights. The standard cars have textured black lines for gaps, like this:

So whats happens when your racing with a premium car with standard cars in the race event? It would be interesting to see if the standard cars switch to premium exterior models.

I'm fine with the 200 premium cars thing. I would not have minded 1000 "standard" cars, since I use bumper cam, so I'm not looking at the car anyway, interior view is far too cramped to be useful, sometimes it just makes driving in an oval more interesting.

I'm much more concerned about the track count. It doesn't sound big right now, and I was really hoping for some great tracks.

Is that gold corvette standard? its even worse than i thought!

That's a picture from GT4 that I was using to demonstrate what they're using on the standard models on GT5. Heres the same model in GT5:

But honestly, take away the higher resolution of GT5 and the better textures and the underlying model is the same as the GT4 one.

i'll be honest with you all, I paid £20 for prologue with 6 tracks and 70ish cars and its one of the most played games I have and I have a lot of driving games. If they gave me 20 tracks and 1000 cars with better handling and full MP features for twice as much money ,then you better put me at the front of that queue. Most of us have had all the GT's from start to present day and I bet a weeks wages that most of them no matter how much whining your doing now will buy it .
To all the guys out there that aren't happy I am truly sorry for you that it's not up to expectation ,but what we've seen so far can you really say its enough to stop you buying?

Yeah, I am pretty happy.

At some point (looks like this point) the burden of updating all the cars from previous GT games has gotten very high. I'd rather have a somewhat quickly updated version of the car to play than not have them at all. I like all those 1990's cars, Gran Turismo needs them, but I want PD to focus more attention on getting the new cars in.

To properly bring those cars up to gt5 spec they'd have to track every one of them down again. What a task.

I know I want be having any sleepless nights until November.I'm not directing this at any one person but It's simple don't like -don't buy ,It makes me laugh how so many people come to GT planet every single day just to moan at a game they think isnt up to standard and expect it all to change at this stage in the production of it.

here's a comparison of the same or similar cars from GT4 photo-mode and comparing it to the standard cars in GT5.

It's pretty obvious from the photos that the cars in GT4 was texture-based while the re-built model in GT5 are rendered.

Keep in mind the good things:
  • 200 cars
  • 20 tracks
  • 16 players online
  • Day/night transition (fully realistic 24h races)
  • Damage
  • Upload online replays to YouTube

20 tracks is not what i expected. They should take out all the pointless 20 versions of the nissan skyline and stuff and put more of what we want.

It is impossible to talk about the quality of standard cars from that video alone. We have to wait from the official screenshots or videos

I've been investigating this premium/standard debate for a little while now, and I've come across some curious information.

If you look at the third post on this page, you'll see a Lamborghini in the section regarding standard cars. Most people at GTplanet believe that the 'standard' cars are being ported straight over from GT4 - but if that was the case, how could the Lambo be there? The only possibility is that the Lambo was ported from GTPSP. Of course, Kaz would never allow models from a PSP game be placed into his PS3 based masterpiece, so I've come up with a theory. It's common for model makers to create a hi-res version of a 3D model for a video game before downscaling it to be used in the final product. It seems absurd to me that PD wouldn't keep an archive of these hi-res models - what if the reference to 'updated cars from past Gran Turismo games' actually means that they were designed at the time of GT3/4/PSP but the models included in GT5 will be the hi-res versions? Cockpit design wasn't done back then, so that's why the standard cars don't feature cockpits.

That's my theory. Maybe I'm just talking crazy.

I use bumper cam, so I'm not looking at the car anyway,.

Unless you only race time trial you are looking at other cars some of the time... in fact a lot of the time I am sure.

I don't quite understand what you are saying there...

Someone was a little trigger happy with the standard defense there...

Those standard cars are gonna look even worse when they put them next to premium models. I still can't believe Kaz did this, and hid it from us for years! I knew something was off when PD was showing the same few cars for years.

lol but there is where you are oh so wrong...

"there's over 800 of them, they cover the majority of the vehicles included in all the previous Gran Turismo games, including the PSP version, and they've been optimised and upscaled for the PS3."

Meaning they took gtpsp cars and upscaled them.

Haha! I thought for a minute there it was from Forza. Opps! sorry don't want to start a flame war. :sly:

Um...what? The 3D models are *the same.* The textures are enhanced and the new graphics engine runs at a higher resolution and uses antialiasing, which is the majority of the enhancement you'll see compared to GT4. The graphics engine in GT5 is just enhancing how they look, but the actual 3D models are the same.
